Weird kicker question... (1 Viewer)

Due to a league rule in a dynasty league, we can't have ANY transactions after week 10. So we basically are forced to carry two kickers and two TEs into the fantasy playoffs. I hate this as I feel I have a strong team and don't want to carry two kickers into the offseason.

Here is my question:

Does anyone have a list of kickers that ONLY kick FGs?

My thought is if they don't do kickoffs, their risk of injury is pretty much zero, so I could take the chance with one of them instead of carrying two. Just for the record, one of the teams that tried carrying one has been burned by injury in the past and cost him the Super Bowl.

Why not just carry two kickers? What if you lose by six points just because you didn't want to cut ties with the next Taco Wallace? Unless you have to cut somebody significant, why would you take that risk?

What if your kicker pulls a hamstring warming up? Gets run into on an xp attempt?

I usually try and trade a "keeper type" player for a draft pick instead of just cutting him, but it comes down to kicker or Demetrius Williams/Jacoby Jones. I think it may be worth the gamble.

Elam only does FGs. Sauerbrun handles both punts and kickoffs.
SSOG, what are your thoughts on Elam the rest of the way? I recall you saying that the closest to a sure bet to finish in the Top 10 kickers was Elam prior to the season. With the issues that Denver's offense has had, notwithstanding the Pittsburgh game, do you still feel this way?Elam was waived in my league during their bye week and nobody picked him up.

Jason Elam and Morten Andersen are the only two that are handling placekicking only this year. Olindo mare is temporarily not handling kickoffs while he heals. The Ravens have had Rhys Lloyd on and off the roster as a kickoff specialist, but he has never been on the active list for a game.

 Thanks! Knew I could count on you!

What major issues? Denver's offense has been racking up significantly more yards than points, which should be a placekicker's dream.Elam was top-10 in the Elway years, when he was living off of extra points. Elam was top-10 in 1999, when the offense lost three hall of famers at once. Elam was top-10 in 2001 and 2006, which were the worst offensive showings Denver's had under Shanahan. Elam's always finished in the top 10. He plays at altitude, is one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history (his total accuracy number is lower than others because he attempts so many long kicks), and he's on his way to rewriting all of the record books. Now, all streaks end eventually, and Elam will one day finish outside of the top 10 again, but he's still a very safe pick IMO.

:nerd: Elam is as close as you can get to a sure thing. He's been on my roster for the past 4 (wait... 6!) years in one league or another... consistent as all get out, and Skeletor has confidence in him from the 40 yard line in.

Shanahan has a lot more confidence than that. Denver had 3rd down at the end of the Pittsburgh game in place for a 49-yard field goal attempt, and Shanahan opted to kick the game-winner right there rather than even bothering to try and get some more yards, that's how much faith he has in Elam.

I didn't say they have "major issues." I said issues, and they do have them. Their best (or second best depending on your feelings about Marshall) WR is gone for about 6 weeks. Their starting C is now out for the season. Their starting RB may get suspended soon and has been a little banged up. Not "major," but certainly not what was expected when you made your preseason Elam statement. For some reason, the point you made that Elam has finished in the top 10 every year (or virtually every year) stuck with me.Perhaps I'm reading you wrong, but I get the feeling you think I'm "calling you out." I'm not. I've just noticed that you are obviously a huge Broncos fan and know a great deal about the team and their tendencies. So, I thought I'd tap that knowledge. The reason I asked is that Elam is now on waivers in my league and I am trying to decide whether to grab him or keep Hanson. I'm just trying to see how you see the Broncos O playing out and Elam's prospects going forward.
