Weird Xmas cards (1 Viewer)

So yesterday I received maybe the oddest Xmas card ever.

To set the stage - family we received it from is mom/dad (all in mid to late 30s) with 3 young boys.  Family of 5.  The card has another woman on the front of the card, who looks to be early to mid 20s, with all three of the boys pointing to her belly area (indicating she's expecting, though you can't tell at all), and the side of the card reading "dear Santa, we can explain - with love the XXX family".  Back of the card has picture of all 6 of them - dad/mom/other woman/ and all 3 boys - with all of their names listed out.

So my wife gets the card yesterday (she works from home), has no idea what's going on and who this woman is - texts me pictures of it with "WTF?"  Last night our imaginations run wild about what's going on - and the prevailing theory is that this is their surrogacy announcement.  Maybe a bit unorthodox way to go about it, but whatever.  Other thoughts were it was his sister who moved in with them (I know all of her family, not his).  Finally a thought that this is some weird "sister wife" thing going on.

Find out today that the woman is just their German foreign exchange student, who happens to be pregnant.  Anyone else find that totally odd?  It comes off as a pregnancy announcement, right?  On a family Xmas card.

Anyone else every get an off the wall Xmas card that ended up spilling some crazy family secret/situation?

Surrogacy was my first thought as you were describing it.  Mid twenties seems a little old for a foreign exchange student...I would think late teens/early 20's for that.  It is an odd card, but I assume they thought they were just being funny by getting a reaction out of people.

I got a card last year that had a family picture on it.  I didn't recognize the people nor names on the card.  I still don't know who it was.  I think I posted about it somewhere in the FAA.

You did. I recall that happening.

So did the husband impregnate the foreign exchange student?

But she got knocked up while here in the states?  I wonder how often that happens with foreign exchange students?
Do not know that to be the case, either.  Have no idea what her story is.  Didn't know she existed till yesterday.  Could have come that way, or it happened here.  All I know is that she's here till "this summer", which if she's far enough along to tell people now, puts the delivery date a bit beyond the point at which she can safely fly, right?

Now the Germans are coming here to have kids. Shut down the borders!

Well, son of a #####.  I just got another in the mail today...2nd year in a row.  I got a return address on this one.  I wonder if I should go knock on their door.

I don't get the "Beach" summer vacation family scene Christmas Cards.. What does that have to do with Christmas? Are you just letting us know you went there? Just something different?/

Also another one we see as a little weird. We have a nephew who sends a nice family card but along with it he sends a lengthy letter outlining all of each of the family's accomplishments, awards, accolades, places they went during the year, etc.

A very self promoting, hubris, interesting take.

We are at the point we look forward to getting it and have a few good laughs. Always think of doing a parody and making our own letter to send.
