Wes Welker was fined $10,000 for wearing an unauthorized hat during his postgame interview, according to league spokesman.

(Seriously during a postgame interview. Who cares if he wears a different hat.)

Companies pay a lot of money to be the the "official _____________ of the NFL" It violates the terms of apparal contracts.

He'd be better of if he pulled a thug rapper move after the whistle and end someone's season instead. That'll only run him $7,500 (that's the same fine for wearing Xmas colors on your shoes).

The NFL fines are a bigger joke than heavyweight boxing.

Well currently Reebok has the NFL appareal. They paid $250 million for 10 years, that expires in April of 2012 Nike will take over and they are paying $35 million for the next 5 years. I'm guessing they probably care quite a bit if NFL players violate terms of said contract. If you can't wrap your mind around the business side of it I'm not sure what to tell you.

my point is selling the rights to the kind of hat one can wear directly after a game is a violation of principle. if you cant get your head around the point i'm trying to make i dont know what to tell you.i dont care about the rules, i care about the fact that its a pathetic act that is simply about greed.

didn't something similar happen to Kitna or Urlacher?

look what they make coaches wear on the sidelines. Mike Nolan had to beg them to let him wear a suit.

:lmao: What do you do for a living? If you could increase revenue safely, legally, and without having to literally do anything extra, you are telling me you would say 'Nope. It's a principle thing.'

It's a HAT. He wore it to advertise something else. He gets paid millions of dollars precisely because the NFL has secured a TON of viewers and can sell advertising space and get lucrative contracts.

Let's pretend that you run Phenix Enterprises. Nike approaches you and says "Hey Mr. Phenix we would like to pay you $35 million per year to have everyone at your company wear our products when they are on TV at company sponsored events." That violates some sort of principle? There is something similar at most workplaces around the country, it's called a dress code.

And the employee who will be wearing the product has a collectively bargained agreement with you where he and the other employees are guaranteed a lot of the revenue from the agreement. And those employees included as a stipulation in said CBA agreement that you must make a good faith effort to maximize revenues just like this.

It's the most valuable brand in all of sports protecting its brand/packaging/image and further fueling advertising. I don't blame them, and I have no problem with it.

ETA, these athletes are big boys, and are payed a lot of money, and they sign a contract agreeing to abide by all these terms.

throw everything to the side so the capitalists can make more money. including allowing the NFL to outright own every action of a person. regardless of how much they make.do you really think 10 grand was fair? if you do, you belong here on a message forum where no one cares.

I don't think it's fair at all. Welker has made something like 10 million in the NFL. The fine should have been more than a measly 10G.
