Wells Week 3 (1 Viewer)

What are the reports on this guy? Is he back at practice today?

I know there are concerned owners other than me that should be asking this but I did not see the post here for week 2.

All I could find so far....

Cardinals' Beanie Wells is back in action

The Arizona Cardinals beat the St. Louis Rams in Week 1 without the help of running back Beanie Wells, but coach Ken Whisenhunt says that Wells will return to practice this week as the Cards prepare to take on the Atlanta Falcons, according to AZCardinals.com.

The 2009 first-round pick out of Ohio State has been out with knee trouble, but the team is surely looking forward to his return since fellow running back Tim Hightower fumbled the ball twice in last week’s game.

Last year, Wells carried the ball 176 times for 793 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season.

Beanie will be the man very soon. I will probably sit him this week and see how he does. I think he will get better and better each week, then by around week 6, he will put up top 10 numbers for the remainder of the season.

I agree with sitting him one more week but I may not have that luxury.

The break is upon us. :lmao:
Fixed ... signed THT owner. :bag:
Thought this was pretty funny from Dave Ricard over at CBS regarding THT's two fumbles: Tim Hightower had the opportunity to slam the door on sharing reps with Beanie Wells had he had a great game against the Rams. Instead, he opened the door, tucked in a doorstop, laid out a red carpet and put up a banner that read "Welcome Back, Beanie!"

per D Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Ariz RB Beanie Wells was limited today. He's going to be really tested on Thursday, according to coach Ken Whisenhunt.

I would like to see 1 week with him on the field before I start him, since I was fortunate enough to take McFadden late, I can trot him out week 2 instead.

per Kent Somers (on Thursday's practice):

--Beanie Wells limited again, Early Doucet will have surgery to fix sports hernia. Rehab is 3 to 6 weeks

--Beanie Wells said he will practice Fri. But that's a light day. Missing Wed and Thur work suggests he won't play in Atlanta.

I think what Somers is referring to is the fact that Wells didn't fully participate on Wednesday and Thursday.

Reading between the lines a bit there, but that's my take.

So it's your take that he won't play, or that was part of the report? If he's working on Wednesday AND Thursday, even if it's limited, I would think he'd play.Regardless, we appreciate the updates.

Nevermind, I read that wrong. Deducing that he "won't play" because of limited work seems like a heck of a leap to me.

Somers is usually pretty spot-on all things Cardinals.

We'll see how it plays out.

I agree. If he didn't practice today, then I would assume Wells won't play. But since he partially participated, I would think he's still questionable but has a chance to play.Actually, if I am AZ, I have him sit out one more week and get him 100% and ready to roll on Week 3. AZ is going to need Wells at full strength if they want to be in the playoff hunt.

I figured they were resting him last week. Do we even know what's wrong with this guy?! He suffered this "injury" on a Thursday night during the last day of the preseason and has had two weeks to heal.I'm baffled.

I saw a report that it was a bruise right above the knee where the quad tendon and the knee meet. Thats a painful place for a bruise, especially for a guy making his money by running repeatedly.

I'm kind of confused by this injury, the hit he took in preseason didn't look that bad. It appeared to be more of a glancing desperation hit from a diving tackler as Beanie was about to turn the corner and gallop for 30. He basically got upended. I guess it was more of a direct helmet on knee thing, or maybe his knee slammed the turf really hard.

Either way this sucks, I kept him in one league and bid high on him in another only to have him miss one of his cupcake matchups and possibly another game after Hightower proved his suckiness once again.

Buckle up that chinstrap and get out there Beanie!!!!!!!

I seem to recall thinking the hit that Bo Jackson took from Kevin Walker didn't look so bad either, but then it turned out to be avascular necrosis. Not saying this is what happened to Wells, but even the most innocuous of hits can cause damage. You should be hoping that ARI lets Beanie heal as he needs to so he can come back at 100% and have his shot at unseating THT for the lion's share of carries.

per Cardschatter:

RB Beanie Wells had some swelling after yesterday. He did a little work but he will be be reevaluated Sunday to determine his status.

per Kent Somers:

Beanie Wells limited again in practice. He will be listed as questionable. My guess is Cardinals rest him 1 more week.

Edited topic to reflect week 3.

Another week of wait and see? I am running out of time with this 0-2 team and need a boost. Hopefully it does not come too late. As a Beanie owner I am not happy with Hightower, but I knew this when I drafted this guy. Good for Hightower, bad for me.

Cutler

Barber

Mathews

Beanie

Colston

Calvin Johnson

Johnny Knox

Witten

Donald Brown

Justin Forsett

Peyton Hillis

Mike Williams SEA

Snelling

We'll probably know something around 4 ET.

Oakland is a pretty nice matchup, but I'd be hesitant to start Beanie without having any idea what kind of workload to expect. If he practices in full today and Thursday with no swelling in the knee I'll be more optimistic.

I can only share my memory banks of what happens in these instances. Last week he was in sweats and the beat writers that cover the Cards said that he wasn't close to being able to dress this past week. OK, so does that mean he has a full workload this coming Sunday? I'm just guessing but based on history of other players I think the best case scenario is a split with Hightower for at least 1 week. Until he can actually dress and play 50% of the snaps I wouldn't even entertain the idea that he is going to get something close to the 15-20 carry range.

My question always when players are deactivated for games is what will change before next week? I'm not saying things don't change but how much better will the injury be 7 days from now since he has had almost 2-3 full weeks off and we never got much of an explanation, no borken bones, no ligament partial tears that I have read.

I think owners should anticipate at least another 1-2 weeks of at best a partial work load.

Ugh. You need more than a boost. Hopefully you are in a 16-20 team league. You are in a world of hurt in a 10-12 team league.

Unfortunately a 12 teamer. 10th pick, tried the WR strategy and it failed. Hopefully this team shows signs of life but I doubt it.

As of right now, I can't think that Wells getting anywhere near the full load, even when he's healthy. Hightower has clearly earned a siginficant piece of the pie....even though I think Wells is more talented. Hopefully, since Anderson sucks, that AZ will run the ball. A lot. To where both Wells and Hightower have value.

would u start THT this week as a flex?

my other options

Brandon Jackson @ Chi

Jamaal Charles vs SF

Santana Moss @ StL

Barber @ Hou

L Murphy @ Ari

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic suggests that the Cardinals have been targeting Week 3 against Oakland for Beanie Wells (knee) to make his return all along.

Wells’ powerful and explosive running style would surely pose matchup problems for a Raiders defense built to pressure QBs, and not necessarily plug the run. At the same time, however, Somers admits he won’t be surprised “if one day we find out that Wells’ knee injury was more than a bruise.” We’ll have an update on Wells’ practice participation later Wednesday afternoon.

Even if he plays, I am sure they will ease him back in. He will remain on my bench in favor of LT and Foster for the time being.

Beanie Wells, RB, Arizona Cardinals Wednesday 9/22, 4:12 PM CT

Beanie Wells (knee) practiced Wednesday, according to Darren Urban of the team's website.

Our View: More confirmation of earlier reports from Urban stating Wells would be "good and ready to play Sunday.

I've got Spiller, Barber, and Tolbert. Really need Wells to get back on track. This is my only weakness at all right now..

per Kent Somers:

Beanie Wells likely to play Sunday but he won't get 25 carries, Whiz says. Not in football shape

Benching him in favor of DeAngelo Williams and LeSean McCoy.
And you should every week except for DWills and McCoy's offweeks.
I agree with you as far as McCoy goes for the most part, but I think you are completely wrong if you think Beanie will not do just as well or better than DWills once he gets going. Its not like DeAngelo or the CAR run game/entire offense has been the least bit impressive. At least Hightower has proved that the AZ offensive line can give the opportunity for good numbers, and Wells is hands down more talented than Hightower. No offense, but I think those words will be eaten come later in the season. Or maybe mine will.
