Wes Welker might miss Week 1 (1 Viewer)

The Patriots kept eight wide receivers on their roster after final cuts, the most of any team in the league.

The Boston Herald speculates that this may be a sign New England is preparing to be minus Wes Welker (ribs) in the opener. The Pats are playing K.C. and should roll, so it'd be no surprise if they played it safe with the slot receiver. See if Welker practices next week and have another option handy. Aug. 31 - 2:43 am et

This better not be true.

My starting WRs in my Dynasty leage are Steve Smith, Kevin Curtis and Wes Welker.

I may be without all three is Wes doens't play and I'm sure that will be too much for me to overcome in week 1.

Thoughts and prayers...

Must have been a significant rib injury. It seems like it happened quite a while ago now. Could it be something else or something worse? Too bad with the Patriots we'll never know.

The injury was about 10 days ago. If it's bruised ribs, I would expect Welker to play. If its a fracture, I can see a 3-4 week recovery, maybe longer depending on the severity. It'll be interesting to see when he takes to the field.

Don't put too much faith in Chad Jackson. He dosen't know the playbook. But he could suprise...
He got cut . . . so that rules him out. IMO, it also means Welker will be playing Week 1.I also find it odd how this was reported . . . the Globe cited a report in the Herald. Notice the Globe didn't say that themselves. FWIW, the Herald is the less reliable of the two Boston papers (lest anyone forget the Rams SB walkthrough tape). No one will know until the end of the week how this will play out because the Pats are talking about it. But I would tend to think that it may be overblown. If it isn't, I would be intrigued to who would be playing receiver Week 1 for the Pats.

Will need to see Welker practice to insert him into fantasy lineups b/c regardless of his experience w/ Brady, Welker has barely practiced all offseason.

And this is why I put Welker in my "I'm not drafting him" list in that thread, unless he fell late, which obv. we all knew he wouldn't. Rib injuries linger and could be an issue all year. There's no way he replicates last year's numbers.

PANIC!!!!!

THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!

As someone who owns Welker in zero leagues and plays against him in one in week one, I would have exactly ZERO hesitation about him this year. Once again panic mode has hit the pool, you guys are seriously unreal, is there anyone out there people aren't worried about?

Being too lazy to look it up, what's the current status of Ben Watson?

I own him as a backup to Scheffler in one league. And since I'm getting scared to start Scheffler, Ben might come in handy if he gets more targets with Welker out.

Why be scared? Seriously as a tip, don't listen to the "sharks". You'll thank me after week 1.

I own him in both my leagues and don't plan to worry until he is declared out for week 1. I have contingency plans in place for if that were to happen. He's young and tough. I expect him to play until I hear he is out.

I came to point this out, but David was on top of it as usual. The Herald reporters like to 'throw things out there' in the hopes they occasionally get a scoop. Very surprised about the release of Jackson. A guy like CJ Jones doesn't seem like he has a real strong hold on a roster spot for an entire season, never mind through week 2.

So the Pats keep 8 Wr and that means Welker isnt playing week one. Sorry not getting the A=B therefore B=C relationship here. Sounds like bigtime grasping at straws. Could it be that they dont have a reliable Wr after Moss and Welker and they run a lot of 3 and 4 WR sets? Plus add in the fact that a couple of those guys are strictly special teams performers.

Wes Welker back at practice

Wide receiver Wes Welker, who was knocked out of the Patriots' third preseason game with a rib injury, returned to practice today.

Welker was present for the media-access portion of the practice, which included stretching, agility drills and some light pass-catching.

The practice was held in shorts and shells (light shoulder pads).
