If there is already a thread started about this I apologize.

In long term value can he keep this up or is this the ultimate sell higgh player right now. With all the other talent and at WR on the Pats and when the weather does start to get nasty are we going to get burned guy this guy when it really counts in the playoffs??

He's like Brandon Stokely was for the Colts a few years back.

He'll continue on this pace all year I'd imagine.

You bet he can keep this up, this guy is a pass catching machine. Even if he doesn't get the TDs, he will get tons of catches simply because teams will try to focus on Moss. In PPR this guy is absolute gold.

An owner dropped him 2 weeks ago in my league too, and man was I happy that I had #1 waiver priority...

Moss is getting double & triple-covered every game. As long as that's the case, Welker should have lots of space to work with. Add the fact that he's very good at finding soft spots, he should continue to do quite well.

"An owner"? You can go ahead and say, "one of the cub scouts I lead..." We know anyway.

Teams are going to HAVE TO do something about this guy. When they do, Stallworth will be the main recipient (after Moss).

They are already picking their poison - they'd rather Welker have 10 grabs than Moss/Stalworth get a 70 yard TD every drive.I think Welker will continue to put up these #'s until Watson gets back - they were pretty much splitting the underneath stuff with Watson in there. Now it appears to be all Welker there.

I doubt he'll keep up the pace he is on, simply because Brady isn't going to throw 60+ TDs this year and I believe the torrid pace of the NE passing game will slow as the weather gets nastier. I drafted Welker in 4 of the 4 leagues I'm in this year so I am a believer. I do think he ends up a top 20 WR. Thoes of us fortunate enough to have Welker on our team were able to get a solid ppr WR2 late in the draft. Exactly the type of pick that wins championships.

Welker is the number two receiver on the team, even with Stallworth back. The number two receiver in a prolific passing offense like this is going to put up good numbers. The one thing I'm worried about with Welker is injury, since he goes over the middle more than the other guys.

Every game I watched, Stallworth starts in the 2 WR sets (although they rarely run 2 WR sets).

Welker will continue the numbers, probably at the expense of Stallworth and to a lesser extent Moss, if Brady's overall numbers don't keep pace. Welker fittingly is wearing Deion Branch's number because he *is* Deion Branch on this team. Branch's strongsuit was going in motion from the flanker spot or playing in the slot, looking to attack the middle of the D and find holes in the zone or end up covered by an overmatched linebacker, safety or nickelback. He made adjustments always in sync with Brady...it's like the two of them had ESP. Watching Welker, you see the same role and same chemistry developing. Brady loved having that chemistry with Branch (and missed it badly last year) so I see him latching onto Welker as his favorite target to get those 8-15yds to move the chains.

Brady clearly loves Moss, but the truth is Moss is so damn good that teams will have to double-cover the guy (see the Cleveland game) at the expense of letting Welker free underneath. If teams don't, then Moss will have a 50yd TD bomb every game.

Welker is arguably the 3rd or 4th most talented receiver on that team when Watson is healthy. If I'm a defense, I'm going to account for Moss and Stallworth first, which should continue to create opportunities (not a lot of teams have 3 quality cover corners).

That said, I think the last two weeks are his high point. He will continue to have a lot of quality games with a few stinkers mixed in when teams to a poor job of scheming for Moss, Stallworth and, to a lesser degree Watson.

I do also agree that Watson is the other 'outlet' receiver when Moss and Stallworth are covered, so a healthy Watson eats into his targets, especially in the redzone.

Actually this owner isn't old enough to be a cub scout. He's an infant learning his first words. But, $$ is $$ am I right?

This analysis doesn't jibe with my understanding of the passing game. You've got your deep threat and you've got your possesion guy, you misdirect with the TE and FB and go to the flats with your RB. Welker is your possesion guy; Stallworthless is your deep threat when Moss takes his annual hammy vacation and, otherwise, window dressing. As it turns out, having 27 td's in 7 games makes for some fine window dressing. However, defensive focusing on Welker is not a formula for Stallworthiness. When NE traded for Welker I said, I'm targeting him -- he will lead the team in receiving. When they traded for Moss I said, I'm targeting Brady and Welker -- Brady may set new records and Welker will lead the team in receiving (receptions.)Two leagues, 2 Bradys in 2 second rounds and 1 Welker. Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen!
