Wesley Clark - internment camps for those who are "disloyal" (1 Viewer)

That seems like an excessively stupid thing to say.

Maybe he'll try to take back the swastika next after it was misused by the nazis....

Sounds reasonable to me.

That's a pretty radical sentiment. Perhaps we should consider segregating you from society.
Who is this guy and why whould i care
Maybe a basic course on US history would help.
Sorry never heard of him. Shrug
Clearly, the one who sniffs bicycle seats should be escorted to the nearest re-education camp, no?

If ignorance were the standard there'd be more people inside camps than outside camps.

Excellent point! Not only reasonable, but logical as well.

Ignorance, and a lack of basic internet search skills. And being able to type "Wikipedia" into a search engine.

I imagine if Wesley Clark wasn't a Democrat this thread would be pushing 50 posts by now.
He got 3% of the primary vote when he ran.
And? Point? He still ran in a Democratic primary.
It's stupid thing for him to say, regardless of his party. It's shame too because he seemed like a decent guy when he ran.
How can you be so gullible as to believe any of these war-mongering statist tools are decent guys?

He seemed a decent guy in person too. I met him at a Pasadena area fundraiser for a local Democratic congressional candidate in 2008 (IIRC) where he spoke for about 10 minutes, took some questions and then mixed with the crowd for pictures. I can't remember specifically what he said, but I recall (as a progressive) not being in agreement with his positions on the Middle East, as he was certainly right of center for a Democrat. He was, however, quite personable when I spoke to him briefly.

Good morning. Today with the invocation of the War Powers Act by the President, I am declaring state of martial law in this city. To the best of our knowledge we are opposed by no more than 20 of the enemy. He is hiding among a population of roughly two million. Intelligence tells us that he is most likely Arab speaking, between the age of 14 and 30, narrowing the target to 15,000 suspects. We can further reduce that number down to those that have been in this country less than six months. Now you have 20 hiding among 2,000. If you are one of these 20 young men, you can hide among a population of similar ethnic background. Unfortunately for you, you can only hide there. And that population, in the classic immigration pattern, is concentrated right here in Brooklyn. We intend to seal off this borough, then we intend to squeeze it. This is the land of opportunity, gentlemen - the opportunity to turn yourselves in. After sundown tonight, any young man fitting the profile I described who is not cooperating will be arrested and detained. There is historically nothing more corrosive to the morale of a population than policing its own citizens, but the enemy would be sadly mistaken if they were to doubt our resolve. They are now face-to-face with the most fearsome military machine in the history of man, and I intend to use it and be back on base in time for the playoffs. Thank you for your time.

I would remind everyone that this is the same man who ordered NATO forces to seize by force a Kosovo airfield held by Russian and Serbian troops in 1999. Fortunately, his orders were disobeyed.

The following morning, Sunday 13 June, Clark arrived at Jackson's HQ at Skopje. It was pointed out to him that the Russians were isolated and could not be reinforced by air and that Russian support had been a vital part of getting a peace agreement. Antagonising them would only be counterproductive. Clark refused to accept this and continued to order the runway blocked, claiming to be supported by the UN Secretary General. Jackson refused to enforce Clark's orders, reportedly telling him "I'm not going to start the Third World War for you."

He decided to run a campaign for president -- as a DEM -- because he found Bush and Condi inadequately warmongering. His only politics are war and oil. Guy's a Cheney-level psychopath.

That link specifies that Clark mentioned only "radicalized Muslims". Realizing that "radicalized Muslims" would be impossible to identify in advance pretty much every time ... does Clark get something of a pass for his comments? As opposed to him saying "all Muslims belong in camps"?

I'm not sure how I feel about Clark's comments. If someone reports an American who tweets support for ISIS and that the American government should be overthrown, what happens to him now? Is he just put on a list and watched until a specific threat is made?

He should, but not for that:

Clark later said his comments were mischaracterized and that he was “for separating people who have made dangerous decisions from the rest of society.”

"My comments from last July were not directed at any religion or faith but in response to a question about ISIS recruitment inside the United States," Clark said in a statement Thursday evening. "The persecution of Muslim Americans is intolerable. I reject any proposal to inter anyone on account of his or her religion. I am troubled by the reaction, from some, to those comments and regret any misunderstanding."

Yes and Robert Reich wants to punish "disloyal" corporations.

Maybe he could be the Treasury Secretary in a Trump/Clark administration.
