westbrook or barber? (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
the question is simple westbrook or barber. it is your turn in the first round and who do you take? a little insight as to why would be nice, but that is up to you. personally i take westbrook, he is the offense. mcnabb will have to go to him if he hopes to stay in things late. he should have enough of a passing game to spread the attention away from him giving him enough oppurtunities to succeed. as for barber i di not trust the team that drafts another guy to take carries away from my number 1. just a thought any insight to concurr of differ would be appreciated.

I would take Westbrook in a redraft, especially if it is PPR.

Barber in a dynasty.

Westbrook's durability and age are slight concerns, but as you say, he is the offense.

I am a win-now type of guy, so I take Westy easily in a redraft, and I also take him in dynasty. He will be a top-5 RB until the wheels fall off. Whether that's 1, 2, or 3 more years remains to be seen.

What's not to like about Barber, but it has to be Westbrook even with the injury concerns. As a Westy owner I have spent many nail biting game-days staring at the injury report only to watch the guy go out and blow it up on the field.

No matter if its PPR, no PPR, redraft, or dynasty i would take Westbrook before Barber. For one, Westbrook is more talented than Barber, and is the focus of his teams offense as opposed to Barber who is not the focus of his teams offense.

Secondly, im not too sure if Barber will ever get 300 touches in a season. It seems pretty clear to me that the Cowboys intend on having a RBBC for the forseeable future. Barber was also pretty inconsistent last year which is not something i would like out of my RB1.

The only league i would take Barber before Westbrook in is one which is a TD only league.

Redraft - not close, BW

Dynasty PPR - BW, somewhat close

Dynasty non PPR - toss up, but I probably take BW as I like to win now

I'll take Barber in any format. Dynasty or Redraft. I'd still take him before Westbrook in PPR.

WHY you ask?

Because my gut says so.

And my gut told me to get Barber last year while I still could.

I don't care about what happened last year. I only care about what I THINK will happen this year.

PPR = Westbrook.

TD-heavy = Barber.

Conventional scoring = a case can be made either way. I'd probably take Westbrook because he has less real competition for touches (despite what Reid says -- he always lies about that sort of thing.)

I have Westbrook miles ahead of Barber. I think Felix Jones is going to have a lot bigger role than Barber owners seem to think.

I have never and nor will i ever make a ''GUT '' pick in the first 3 rounds of a draft...i go with facts,period....and the fact is Westy is the better pick. Anyone who picks with thier guts that early is taking more risk than is worth it...after 3 rounds go nuts with yer guts.

There's no way you can know that until the '08 season is over. Thank you.

ummmm...your welcome

I love Barber this year, but Westbrook is more of a proven comodity. On top of that, almost all of offense in Philly goes through him. The problems are we've never seen Barber as a workhorse back (we know he has TD potential), and no one knows if Felix Jones has NFL caliber skills. You can speculate all you want that Felix will work wonders in the Cowboys offense, but the fact of the matter is Barber is the only HB left on the roster that played in Dallas last year.

So...

high risk/high reward: MBIII>Westy

Safe selection/PPR: Westy>MBIII

Never too early for a Mock ...WESTY 4TH...MBIII 12TH

If Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer, then the first Mock Draft writeup is the unofficial start to draft season at Rotoworld. Sure, we're two months from training camp and three months from the biggest draft weekends. But the trends you see below are around to stay. Now is a good time for the certifiable fantasy nut to get a feel for 2008.

This draft was taken place a few weeks ago, for print in the first Krause Publications magazine. We participate in a slew of these magazine mocks, and will continue to highlight some in the coming months. This one used points-per-reception (PPR) scoring, and awarded six points for passing touchdowns – a system that devalues running backs. Do not underestimate how much this system changes strategy, especially with quarterbacks. Evan Silva represented Rotoworld.

Round One

1.01. John Culligan: Steven Jackson

1.02. Adam Caplan: LaDainian Tomlinson (RB SD)

1.03. Brandon Funston: Adrian Peterson (RB MIN)

1.04. Dave Richard: Brian Westbrook (RB PHI)

1.05. Dave Hunter: Tom Brady (QB NE)

1.06. Peter Shoenke: Joseph Addai (RB IND)

1.07. Greg Ambrosius: Ryan Grant (RB GB)

1.08. Evan Silva, Rotoworld: Randy Moss (WR NE)

1.09. Michael Fabiano: Larry Johnson (RB KC)

1.10. Tom Kessenich: Frank Gore (RB SF)

1.11 Unknown: Peyton Manning (QB IND)

1.12 John Hansen: Marion Barber (RB DAL)

Trends, Etc: A google search unearths that Culligan once was the co-winner of the World Championship of Fantasy Football. Winning that event takes original thinking and he definitely shows guts by taking Jackson over LT2. Tomlinson's career carries are getting up there, but this won't happen in most drafts. Jackson vs. Peterson vs. Westbrook will be a bigger debate usually. In a PPR league like this, Peterson's value takes a hit.
