WFAN in New York is reporting Andy Reid may be stepping down for the rest of the season to spend more time with his two sons.

Does this mean that Marty Morhinweg (sp?) is going to dramatically ride away on his motorcycle from the next practice in order to motivate the team?

Francesa said there are rumors swirling in Philly that Reid MIGHT be stepping down and Morningweig might take over for the rest of the season. You might want to change the title of your post.

if he does step down, do you think if the Iggles were 4-0 he would have still wanted to leave his coaching gig to spend more time with his sons?

Not too surprising for me. His family life is in shambles. Unfortunately it may be too late for his kids...

This rumor has been around Philly for a couple weeks now. Surprised it took so long for WFAN to pick up on it.

It may just be wishful thinking by Eagles fans and media guys floating an idea and hoping it comes true.

I heard the same report - this is NOT fact, so the thread title is totally misleading.

And yes, the same rumors are being talked about on WIP in Philadelphia, but their speculation/take is that while something might happen at the end of the season, they would be "stunned" if Andy left as coach now.

Either way, though, potential lame-duck situation.

If true, downgrade everyone located within 50 miles of Philadelphia.
The Giant game was just absoltuely inept coaching. You let Justice get absolutely slaughtered out there without any help given the fact the Eagles ran the ball relatively well. Im a Reid fan, but his playcalling is just atrocious. It's a shame were pissing this season away because the defense, which I though was our Achillies heel, generally speaking has played fairly well.

Two words: Marty Mornhinweg. Record as head coach: 5-27.Andy Reid may not be perfect, but he's so much better than Mornhinweg it's ridiculous. And isn't Mornhinweg calling the plays?

Lame Duck? Reid rumblings grow

Pro Football Talk continues to beat the Andy Reid is leaving drum. Now, A.J. Daulerio of PhillyMag.com has joined the parade.

"It's been a constant rumor all year, but after Sunday night's loss to the Giants, sources close to Andy Reid and the team say there's a strong possibility Reid may get off the sidelines sooner than expected," Daulerio said. "All year, Reid's family troubles have been taking a noticeable toll, and many of his players are biding their time until Big Red makes an announcement. With Marty Mornhinweg already assuming much of the offense, Reid's a lame-duck coach at this point, just poking around on the sidelines to keep his mind off of his woes. The likely scenario is inserting Mornhinweg in the coach's seat so Reid can ride out the rest of his contract as Executive Vice President of Football Operations, leaving him more time with his fractured family."

If he steps down it will be for good.I think his sons are adults??? If that is the case it is to late to take time off with them, they should have there own lives.

When kids are adults, their failures can still take a toll on parents --- mental and emotions strain, etc. I doubt he'd be taking off more time to spend with the sons so much as to just get some relief from it all. Knowing your kids are failing isn't easy; having the whole world know it can't make it any easier.

I have a feeling that Reid is also feeling guilty given the immense amount of time that he has undoubtedly spent away from home cultivating his NFL coaching career. It's probably too little, too late but I'm figuring that if there's truth to this story he's trying to make up for lost time.

Any kid that leeches money from his parents still needs parenting. But yeah, it's too late for them. Perhaps Andy is considering taking time off to conceive new children so he can start over on the whole parenting front.

Very good point. Not much is talked about the stress to a family felt by someone in the NFL coaching ranks, especially a head coach or top coordinator.Look at what happened with Dungy's son (not saying there is a direct correlation), and Reid's family seems to be in shambles. The fact is, family seems to be pushed FAR down the priority chain by most head coaches. Probably by necessity to a degree. But you wonder if it is worth it.

Makes me feel a little better about dealing away McNabb...

Reid-Childress reunion in Minnesota next year? :bs:

Too late? So he should just give up?There are plenty of examples of fractured family relationships that mend themselves when everyone is an adult. And while his sons are adults, they obviously dont have much guidance to go by. He can still do a great deal of positive good in their lives. They arent 50 after all.

One of the stories that sticks with me is Joe Gibbs, citing as a reason for his retirement, returning home in the wee hours from Redskins Park and kissing his sleeping son on the cheek, and to his surprise realizing that his son had stubble on his cheek. That profession relentlessly sucks time away from all other aspects of their lives. I don't think I could do it.

All great points here. It's never a bad thing to focus on your family in general, and especially in their time of need, over your career. If Reid steps down, the only thing that can be said about it is that he has his priorities straight.

I think I remember this interview. Wasn't it Joe Gibbs wife that would leave a casette in his car informing him of all of the daily goings-on in her & their childrens' lives so he would be forced to listen to it on his way to & from Redskins Park? Being a head coach in the NFL may be the pinnacle of professional achievements & incredibly lucrative but there is no way I could do it. The demands on Reid's time are even greater with his dual role as GM. As an Eagles' lifer, I sincerely appreciate all he has done for the franchise & the manner in which he's done it. As a father, I wouldn't blame him a damn bit for taking a step back to reassess his priorities. He still has children younger than the 2 sons that have recently been in trouble. In the event that Reid does step down, I would be shocked if businessmen as shrewd as Banner & Lurie would hand the keys to a very desirable car to a buffoon like Morninwheg. They may let him finish out what would undoubtedly be a trainwreck of a season, but a coaching staff overhaul would likely ensue in the offseason.

Wishful thinking?!?!?! In his pas 8 seasons he has led your Eagles to a 81-51 record. If they finish with a losing record this year it will only be their 3rd since he took over. You have been in the playoffs 6 our of 8 years in Philly. And you hope he leaves??? All I can hope for Philly is Art Shell coming in, Philly fans certainly deserve him.

:lmao: I don't want him to leave but there is an unintelligent faction of Eagles fans (you know the ones) who want to fire Reid for poor clock management, not running enough, etc. Of course these are the same dimwits that booed McNabb at the draft and wanted to keep Garcia over McNabb last off-season.I know Reid isn't Lombardi but we could easily do worse.

Teams that have taken the Wind in overtime have won 2/3 of the time.

Poor clock management and lack of running a balanced offensive gameplan are absolutely valid criticisms of Reid (especially with the amount of play action he runs). Look at the run/pass ratio this year despite having an obviously hobbled quarterback. His level of detail has also slipped markedly this year (notably special teams miscues and general lack of discipline). Is is time for a change? Will there be an available candidate that may respresent an improvement? I honestly don't know at this point, but it is a valid question.

**** Vermiel was like that here in St. Louis. He slept on the couch in his office more than at home. When he took the gig in KC he made them build a bedroom off his office so he could sleep in a bed at the office....No way I could do that kind of a job. Too many hobbies. Too many projects around the house that I enjoy doing. Too much time away from the kids and I don't even have any kids yet (due in April :goodposting: )

I agree with you on that point and I don't think Banner and Lurie would fire him just to make a change. There are many more bad coaches than good coaches and most of the good ones have jobs. The only way he leaves is if he steps down or the team wins less than 6 games. I just don't want to end up like the Chargers did after they canned Marty

Well, the Eagles won't exactly be 14-2 this year, so . . .

What does Bongo say?
my sources.........tell me.........that Reid is probably done with..........coaching........for good..........apparently he ws on the phone this morning............with his kids' treatment counselor..........this is more serious........than most think..............management is not happy
