What’s your ‘Like’ policy in this Politics Forum? (1 Viewer)

You’re obviously going agree with a high percentage of comments from someone who shares your worldview and politics, and thus ‘Like’ (smiley face) a higher percentage of those comments than comments you philosophically disagree with.

When you read a comment from a commenter you know or perceive to hold a different worldview or politics than you yet you completely agree with that specific comment are you more reluctant to ‘Like’ that comment based on the messenger?

Are there messengers on this board whom you will never ‘Like’ their comment regardless of how much you agree with it because you know or perceive the messenger to be your extreme political opponent?

I'm willing to give anyone a like, unless that poster has a history of deleting their threads when things don't go their way.

Trolls are trolls, but staying out of the threads w the President's name on em steers one pretty clear of them. I've tried to engage - and support wherever possible - everyone who disagrees w me because the issue and not the argument is the thing for me. There are a lot of young folks (lotta ol poops too, but theyre locked in) who see only animus in disagreement and react accordingly. I, a radical who believes in the art of the necessary over the art of the possible almost every time and one whose view has been changed at least once by every thoughtful opposing voice on this board, look to engage all who are not just in it for the contest and have gone off page w most conservatives this side of larryboy44 to expand either their or my view. Kinda wish there was a disagree button as a barometer of who i'm reaching or repulsing w my "so left i'm right" schtick, because regulars already know me as 10-lbs-of-####-in-a-5-lb-bag and react in kind a lot less often than they used to. But i encourage discourse everywhere i can and use the like button to show that i can agree w folk. troof is troof. nufced

I "like" posts completely at my whim, and often for reasons that need explaining. I can "like" a post that utterly appalls me in content for a turn of phrase, a joke, a good effort, an iFriend is acting simpatico with me -- whatever. When one sees a "like" from me, one might ask why that were so, and I'd oblige with a reason. It might not be the reason one is hoping for, but I'm willing to explain. It could even be shtick that is appreciated. It's varied, and as the origins of the "like" button would understand, complicated.

I'm more likely to "like" a post that fits this description.

I'm both of these.  If I see a good post from someone with whom I generally disagree, I'm more likely to click a reaction.  But it's also a bit arbitrary and capricious. Unlike rock, one thing I am aware of is trying not to "like" a post unless I like all of it.  Sometimes I agree with a portion of a post, but there's an unnecessary dig or some snark in it, so I usually won't like that.  Probably I occasionally do anyway, though - see "arbitrary and capricious."

I've tried to do this a lot less as the board has evolved into settling into a use of the "like" button and its attendant other emojis. I usually try to highlight or point out the part I like now, and I almost always stay away from liking posts that are personally directed these days. I try to make sure everything is on the level more and more as I see how people's reactions to things people say to me affect me personally.

If I were less lazy, I'd do this and respond directly to the post to compliment the parts I do like.

It's a rather complex algorithm in conjunction with the latest most advanced AI to date. Have you heard of Watson?  Makes that thing look like a chump. Anyhow everything is input by Mr. Hung's 8th grade computer science class in Fresno which then determines if I should like a post and if so the proper reaction.

I'll like pretty much any post with a decent rhyme in it.
There’s one poster where I like whatever he may say,

And that poster goes by the name of Tremblay.

His points are rife with wit and guile,

Which I suppose just comes with a name like, “Maurile.”

There once was a poster named Zow

He couldn't appreciate how

He can’t see it’s Maurile

But he’ll give it a whirl

He gets pronunciation now

I honestly now don't know if you're both pulling a Tanner or just rhyming Maurile's name correctly. Put me in the years of "More-ee-lay" camp.

For me -  I will continue to rhyme Maurile with Burial

Sure, there is no rhyme, nor reason - but I refuse to follow the crowd.

Sure, I will "like" a post from people who I typically disagree with...when they introduce useful, factual information to a debate. When they make a good joke. Or even something as simple as posting a link to a song I like.
