What are some conspiracy theories that you think might have some validity? (1 Viewer)

I mean, there absolutely was discussion during 9/11 that they might have to shoot the plane down, but didn't because it crashed, and I don't see why there would have to be a cover-up. IIRC, we didn't have any planes that could shoot down the jet... nothing ready to fly that quickly had live weapons. So one of the changes made after 9/11 was to be sure that there were always planes ready on the ground with live missiles in case of domestic terrorism, instead of assuming we'd have a few hours lead time from an international attack. From what I remember, the plan on 9/11 was to order fighter jets to intentionally crash into the cockpit of the plane to take it down, and the pilots took off knowing that it could come to that.
Yup I read this too from the female pilot that was sent up. They did an interview with her. She said the nearest air base didn't have any jets equipped with missiles on them at the time, so they pretty much sent her up on a possible suicide mission.

According to the latest polls, you're actually in the minority if you believe the government's story here.
Yeah, I figure I'd pick two that wouldn't put me out with the loons. But seriously, our government is capable of some ####ed up #### and the lack of transparency and the Warren Commission certainly didn't help the cause.

Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. No second shooter, no grassy knoll. Since more than half the public doesn't agree, that's a conspiracy theory.

Not only that, but, all the mystery about the assassination is because J Edgar Hoover botched the investigation. He wanted it closed quickly to maintain the public's trust in his G Men, so obvious avenues of inquiry were never explored. However, they were all irrelevant as Oswald was the only trigger man.

Furthermore, Oswald thought he was going to be hailed as a hero, but panicked on the way home when he was approached by a cop. So he shot officer Tippett out of fear, then realized he'd never be celebrated as the savior he wanted to be after killing a police officer, so he denied everything and called himself a patsy to hide the truth.

(Incidentally, the assassin realizing he's not getting accolades for his deed is exactly what happened to John Wilkes Booth, who fled Washington for the south, demanding newspapers at every stop, only to panic when even the Southern papers denounced his act. Oswald repeated the pattern.)
I'm partial to the conspiracy theory that the man the Union soldiers killed really wasn't John Wilkes Booth.  (Favorite episode of Brad Meltzer Decoded).

Basically the Union couldn't find him and they used a Confederate prisoner who looked kind of like him. The manhunt was taking too long and they wanted to gain the public confidence.

From Britannica-

Having met up with another of the conspirators, David Herold, Booth fled through Maryland, stopping to have his leg treated by Samuel A. Mudd, a Maryland doctor who would later be convicted of conspiracy. A massive manhunt ensued, fueled by a $100,000 reward. Booth and Herold hid for days in a thicket of trees near the Zekiah Swamp in Maryland. On April 26, Federal troops arrived at a farm in Virginia, just south of the Rappahannock River, where Booth was hiding in a tobacco barn. Herold gave himself up before the barn was set afire, but Booth refused to surrender. After being shot, either by a soldier or by himself, Booth was carried to the porch of the farmhouse, where he subsequently died. The body was identified by a doctor who had operated on Booth the year before, and it was then secretly buried, though four years later it was reinterred.

I don't know about a woman but I do know there was a man who was a national guard pilot who was also a civilian airliner pilot as his regular job and he was faced with possibly shooting down a peer (so to speak).

This possible conspiracy has always interested me because when this happened I had just left the air Force and I remember hearing on the radio that F-16s from my former base had been scrambled and sent to the area.  As a former Airman from that base, I knew the validity of that contingency and the timing of how it could occur.  I definitely believe it may have occurred.
