What can opposing defenses do to Mike Vick (1 Viewer)

Is it any crazier to use one series as a sample size than it is to use a handful of games against weak defenses? It cuts both ways.
Do you really not see the difference between four plays at the end of a game in which he hadn't prepared for vs. four full games as a starter?
You're best to just let it go. People who are anti-Vick despite what he's done will most likely remain anti-Vick despite what he does going forward.

He's finally got some decent defenses coming up in the schedule
Are you talking about a Giants team who just last week gave up 327 and 3tds to John Kitna @ home ???
yes, that Giants team that happens to be the 5th ranked defense in the league, even after that game.
Yep, this week will be a nice test for Vick. I doubt he repeats his performance from last week.
I don't think Vick's loudest supporters would say he'll ever repeat that performance, let alone a top 5 defense like the NYG. I agree 100% that this is a tough test for him and I am looking forward to it.

That's just it isn't it? What has he really done? He's put up gaudy stats against weak teams. We'll know more this weekend.

No, I see it. Do you really not realize that you cannot extrapolate 4 games into a full season?
I've never extrapolated 4 games into an full season.

No kidding? He did well against poor defenses? What qualifies as gaudy? Stats like 295/4 TDs/1 INT or 296/4 TDs/0 INT or 433/3 TDs/0 INTs or 289/3 TDs/0 INTs?Those are the best games of Rivers, Orton, Manning and Rogers, respectively, which came against the powerhouse defenses of Houston (32nd), Kansas City (24th), Houston (32nd) and Dallas (28th). Each QB's next best games: Rivers-Seattle (21st), Orton-Indy (15th), Manning-Denver (29th) and Rodgers-Buffalo (25th)Are you saying that they haven't done anything either?

I still want to see him against a solid D. When the Eagles play the Bears, that will be a test for Vick he has not yet had. Bears have the LBs with speed that can keep up with him. Playing against Indy, Wash, Jax and Det until now does not convince me yet that he is elite. All of those 4 defenses are bottom 10 in the NFL for a reason.

I agree with this. If he looks good the next 2 weeks, I think we have to believe that he's for real.

Agreed, I think this weekend is a pretty big test. Top 5 defense (that puts consistent pressure on the QB, while NOT relying much aon the blitz), Sunday night game, winner controls the NFC East. It should make for some gooood football.

Ok, maybe he did do that in only one half. I'd thought Kolb was knocked out earlier. If he's unstoppable though, how do you explain away this series. Game on the line. 4 3:22 20 - 27 1st-and-10 own 49 sacked: 0 yards4 2:45 20 - 27 2nd-and-10 own 49 sacked: -3 yards4 2:14 20 - 27 3rd-and-13 own 46 pass complete to Jason Avant for 12 yards4 1:59 20 - 27 4th-and-1 opp 42 rushed for 0 yardsLooks like Green Bay had the answer when it counted.
Yes, because when people say he is unstoppable they mean he will never be stopped and will score everytime the Eagles have the ball :banned: . Just like all the other great QB's. They scored everytime they had the ball. Especially in games when they started the game as back-up and didn't get to practice with the first string offense all week.Excellent example.
It's the only good defense he's played :banned:
Looks like we can put this canard to rest now. :banned:

If you can't stop him, just bring a power running game and win time of possession BIG, so he wastes his talent sitting on the bench watching your offense plod down the field.

I think we saw the answer from the Giants today. Force him to the right, keep outside containment, and hit him hard when given the chance.

Throw deep on offense for quick scores early to bury the Eagles in the 1st quarter. Throw some quirks into your defense to confuse Vick in the first quarter as well to just force a stop or hopefully get a turnover. Build up a 21-3 lead. Hopefully it takes them out of their gameplan for a couple quarters. Then hang on to win.

offenses turning the ball over 5 times do not help defenses. The Giants showed how to keep vick at least slightly contained and probably would have won if not for a very weird series of events at the end of the fourth. Disciplined defensive pressure, face side blitzes, gap contain up the middle, and as someone above said ... get your hard shots in on him when available. Also, his biggest weaknesses are still his ball protection and his accuracy ... tough to exploit but can be done.

I think the Giants did an excellent job with their game plan tonight in containing Vick. They were disciplined in their pass rush and really did

not let him get any big runs. The one time they did not contain (Boley), Vick got outside and scored on a short TD run.

Vick, to his credit, did not throw any picks, and should have had one obvious TD (Avant dropped it), and possibly another one that Jackson could have caught.

The Giants got some good shots on Vick. If he has too many more games like last night he will get injured again. Forcing him to scramble to his right

is key as he is not able to pass on the run.

The Eagles coaches need to study this game hard to see what was open to the offense that they were not exploiting. If they can find some counters to

what the Giants did, then I think Vick will be better equipped to handle what he saw last night (which is what he will probably see this week again against the Bears).

You really need the personnel to accomplish this. Your ends need to be fast enough to contain Vick otherwise it's just a big run away from the pressure because the CBs and S are worrying about Jackson and Maclin downfield. NY did a great job of keeping Vick from getting outside the tackles when they brought pressure. And if you aren't bringing pressure and you can't get it from your front 4 (which NY couldn't) Vick was very good.Plus, even with the great game plan and it's great execution, the Eagles still put 27 on the board and really should have had 7 more.EDIT: Also, the Eagles have now seen this gameplan used against them and I'm sure the coaching staff will design plays to combat this type of pressure.

I will admit the Giants held their own for most of the game but Vick is unstoppable this year. Opposing def cordinators are losing sleep big time.
