What food or drink is overrated? (1 Viewer)

I don't get the love for Shepard's Pie.

Shuke mentioned beer. I'll allow it.

Nachos are stupid and terrible.  I don't understand why anyone orders them.  If you really want a tortilla chip with those ingredients on it just make a dip with them.

Oh ####...you're either trolling, insane, or have no decent pizza places near you
DC isn't the best for pizza, but we have some decent places.  I will explain in more detail.

Like most people I've eaten a lot of pizza.  I've eaten a lot of unmemorable pizza on the premise that "even when it's bad, it's pretty good."  But on reflection, I can think of a lot of other foods this is at least equally true of.   I can go to Chili's or wherever and have a perfectly acceptable burger.  And that's much more satisfying than your standard chain pizza.

But yes, you can also find places that do very good pizza.  And I enjoy those places fine.  But even as I enjoy them, I find that I'm not craving even the best pizza the way I might crave a really exceptional drunken noodles or something.  I'm not saying pizza is bad, like say Cincinnati-style chili.  I just think that's it's overrated considering the place we afford it in our collective cuisine.

caviar - tried a couple different kinds years ago, thought it sucked and never felt the need to try again

Damn - you beat me to it.  It's not so much that pizza is bad - it can be great.  But this nonsense about pizza being like sex, even when it's bad it's good is complete bull####.  Domino's, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars - most of that stuff is crap.
I'm going to swallow my pride for a moment and agree with you here.

Pizza

Ramen - this may be a NW thing but people wait for this #### for a half hour. Tastes like the stuff I make at home.

Typical chain brand pizzas doesn't thrill me either, but if someone put a Chili's burger and a Pizza Hut pizza in front of me, 8 out of 10 times, I am grabbing the pizza

I cast my vote for Philly cheese steaks.  There alright, but after going to the cheese steak meccas, Pat's, Geno's, Tony Luke's etc...I came away from each just sort of meh.  Good 2 AM sort of food, I suppose.

Cupcakes. The first few bites of the top layer with icing are pretty decent. After that it's ready for the trash can.

Guac, shepherds pie & hummus aren't over rated IMO. Are they really rated high enough to be over rated?

Cheese steaks are a good call.

I will say hot dogs.  The cheap ones in the store are total crap, and the best hot dogs are outclassed by even the worst sausages.

now you ####ed up

Caviar is #1 with a bullet.  Lobster #2.

Both are good, but no more.  Caviar never justifies the price.  Lobster is tasty and I thoroughly enjoy it, but give me crab legs any day, often for 1/2 the cost.

What cracks me up is that the boxed hot dogs w the german/yiddishe name in the grocery store are going for about the same $ per pound as i get my italian sausages from a butcher. I believe the whole point of a dog is that you take the sawdust & rat#### ground beyond recognition because it was half-price of a real sauage. it's da wurst!

Birthday Cake.  Mostly flavorless sugar to me.  We don't even have cakes for my kids birthdays anymore.  They usually prefer cheesecake or some other dessert like Pie, éclairs or canolies..

The obvious answer is bacon. I like it fine, but some people are way over the top with how good it supposedly is.
