Just go with this hypothetical...

The Packers lose one of the next few games. Either, Oakland, @ Kansas City or Chicago. They go into the last game against Detroit @ 14-1. The Pack have the #1 seed rapped up and have nothing to lose in the last game. However, The Lions need a win to clinch a Wild Card spot and make the post season for the first time in over a decade. Does the Pack rest their stars for the post season or do they do everything they can to knock the Lions out of the playoffs?

I would think the Packers care more about protecting their starters from injury than knocking a rival out of the playoffs.

You would probably see the starters play maybe a quarter in week 17 and then rest. If you have any of the Packers skill players and play through week 17, you should be hoping that the Packers don't lose of of the next few games.

Rodgers plays at least a half. Probably into the 4th quarter.

I don't see McCarthy taking his foot off the gas even with a loss.

He didn't against AZ a few years ago when they had nothing to gain.

If they are 14-1 would they the #1 seed wrapped up?Don’t the 49ers only have 2 losses?
I don't know if this is what he's thinking, but the title says "in the next two weeks" (though I know that the body of the post references the Bears). If the Packers lose to an AFC team (the next two weeks) and then to the Lions, both the 49ers and the Packers will have a loss to an NFC team and an AFC team. Then:1. Head to head doesn't apply2. In conference is a tie3. Common games are a tie4. Strength of Victory will go to the Packers, who have beaten the Saints, Panthers, Bears, Broncos, Falcons, Rams, Vikings, Chargers, Bucs, Lions, Giants, and either Raiders or Chiefs. 49ers have beaten the Seahawks, Bengals, Eagles, Bucs, Lions, Browns, Redskins, Giants, Cardinals, Rams, Steelers. So Packers take the #1 seed.

The bigger question is HOW WILL detroit even be in a position to make the playoffs, they should beat MN this week, but no way will they beat Oakland at Oakland, and I don't think they can beat SD either.

I think you assume too much! If the Lions beat the Vikings, this week, then I put them making the playoffs at about 45%. Look at what the Lions did to Denver. They CAN beat Oakland and San Diego if they play that way. The question is can they play that way.

I will preface this with the fact that I am a Lions fan. I HOPE they would take it easy, but I know for sure they won't. It's a home game (@ GB). It's against a division rival.

The pushing/shoving, Suh incident, etc. will have some players chippy with each other. As others have said, I don't see Rodgers and Co. going the entire game, but at least a half,

if not more. Whether they are up or down by the 4th quarter, I could see the starters all sitting. The game means nothing for their playoff situation, since they have everything

basically wrapped up.
