What is a homesteaders policy for a funeral? (1 Viewer)

I have been managing my Aunt's affairs the past few years.   Recently she entered the end of life phase so I went and planned and paid for a pre need funeral.

She eventually passed away and we had the funeral.

I received in the mail a document that was a Homesteaders Policy that looks like it was for the exact amount I paid for the funeral, and was prepared by the funeral home for my Aunt.

I don't quite understand what this was for and if I have any financial obligations I have to take care of.  I have contacted the funeral home but the guy who is in charge of this stuff is out until next week so I thought I would try and understand more what this document means.

Any one know what this policy is for?

Yep, my Mom just preplanned and bought a similar policy and put it in my name as Personal Representative for her affairs.  I believe the stipulations on it say it can only be used for cremation or funeral purposes, no life insurance or otherwise value. Not sure why its a homesteaders policy, there is a reason, the gentleman told us I just cant recall, but it is exactly the same type of policy she bought. My Dad had the same policy for covering all his cremation costs.

Thanks!  From reading further online it sounds like a way the funeral home can recoup some expenses if the person the funeral is being prepaid for, lives a while longer than expected.
