What is the deal with Deffensive score keepers (1 Viewer)

Ok in the past years the stats have been pretty accurate based off of the games I watch however this year all the games I watch the Score keepers are on Crack!! This week I watched the Indy game and at least 3 times the announcers said Brackett with the tackle and on my computer they would show someone else get the tackle. I began to focus on Brackett and noticed throught the game he would be involved in a play and not even get an assist, I rewatched the game and would say he had close to 6 solo and 3 assisted even though he was credited 2 Tackles total. I decided to review some games from week 6 and noticed the same out come.

I feel your pain man. I am a Ray Lewis owner and all this "jumping on the pile and gets tackles" stuff is a complete rumor. There are so many time he is the one to bring down the ball carrier and he doesn't even get an assist. It is so frustrating.

Ray Ray, EJ Henderson and Brackett have been getting screwed in the books bad. Seems like MLB are the ones not getting the stats I wonder why, its bad when the anouncers say Lewis with the stop and the stats keeper gives it to Gooden.

In the Vikes/Ravens game Ray Ray made 3 straight stops on the goalline on AP and got credit one time. When you are in a close matchup and trying to get every point you can it gets frustrating.

I'm pretty sure Troy Palumalu was rewarded a tackle on an incomplete pass.

thats why i picked up gooden for the love he gets. There has been more mistakes on tackles and forced fumbles and recoveries then i have seen in a while.

The NFL still doesn't recognize tackles as an official stat, correct? I guess if this is the case, they couldn't care less how careless the defensive score keepers are. But I agree with the sentiment of this thread - it is extremely frustrating to own a player, watch the game and hear his name called a bunch, only to go to the boxs core and see 2 solos and 1 assist.

MFL will update defensive player stats later in the week. Does the NFL review games and verify stats?
Good question. I think they review games but don't think they change stats. The NFL still doesn't recognize tackles as an official stat, correct? They list stats(tackles, assists, PD, sacks, etc) on their site.

They generally change big play stats (sacks, int,ff,fr) are reviewed and changed accordingly.

However, it sometimes won't be changed for weeks. Case in point, my Ray Lewis week 1 forced fumble from '08 that I mentioned earlier. Just one day during week 6-7 the forced fumble appeared but I never got the points for it.

Like other have said, I have never seen these many mistakes.

We've been doing IDP since 1990 (my God, that's almost 20 years!) and it's always been a bit like that, though I couldn't say if this year is better or worse than average. I think the comments about it not being official is, indeed, part of the problem. Fortunately, on average, it's still better to own Patrick Willis than A.J. Hawk, which is as it should be!

The NFL recognizes only sacks and interceptions as official defensive stats. They regularly review close sack plays to ensure accurate counts. Tackles, assists and passes defensed will likely never be official statistics. That doesn't mean that the NFL doesn't care about them. In fact, the NFL has gone to great lengths in recent seasons to work toward uniformity in awarding those stats.

I wrote an article last summer detailing a video that the NFL sent to their stat crews in 2007. Chris Hoeltge, who produced the video for the NFL, regularly tracks the numbers and provides feedback to the stat crews. We had him on the Audible last summer discussing defensive stats. We've had good research projects here in the Forum and in articles Aaron Rudnicki has written during the preseason and notes in my RTD column recent years detailing areas where the NFL needs improvement and holes you can exploit in your lineups.

It's disappointing to see the number of solo tackles awarded to TEAM and the inconsistencies in solo and assisted tackles that still pervade some stat crews in the league. We'll keep pushing for better accounting of stats on our end, but it seems unlikely that the NFL will ever recognize every defensive stat as official. Thankfully, despite the warts, things are much better now than they used to be, when there were no standards whatsoever.

Solid post Jene. I'll concede that tackles, assists, etc are often difficult to determine when a mass of defensive bodies is around the ballcarrier. However, sometimes you just shake your head when you watch specific plays. This Sunday night Adrian Wilson fell on a fumble, without another defender in the immediate vicinity, and there is no fumble recovery in his stat line??

Sunday night Cardinals @ Giants highlights --> NFL.com link Ahmad Bradshaw fumbles with 4:00 left in 4th quarter. It doesn't get more cut and dried than that. (edit to add: 3:20 into the clip)

Yes I watched that fumble and cheered because it gave me the clinching win. Wilson got up and ran around with the ball the announcers even said number 24 adrian wilson with the fumble recovery but they still didn't give it to him wow what a error.

Here is the play from Week 1 2008. This is how it was recorded in the play by play:

1-10-CIN30(2:48) C.Perry left tackle to CIN 35 for 5 yards. FUMBLES, RECOVERED by BLT-C.McAlister at CIN 40. C.McAlister to CIN 29 for 11 yards.

PENALTY on BLT-H.Ngata, Illegal Block Above the Waist, 10 yards, enforced at CIN 29.

And here is footage of the play. Watch the play starting at the 1:03 mark.

With all of the fantasy football dollars out there, you'd think some independent service could come up with a better stat service that would do the games themselves. They could sell an annual subscription to the league hosting websites. A cool name like Accustats or something like it would by nice.

It could ensure greater accuracy and consistancy if there was a uniform system and accountability where the primary focus was all stats related to fantasy football. You could have two guys watch the games live (one for offense and one for defense) and update instantly then have another guy check their work with a play by play review on DVR to finalize the game following along after them.

C'mon Joe, get cracking on this so we don't have to put up with shady IDP stats week to week.

Did you guys see how obvious the play I provided a link for was?

It was clear as day, a one on one play, and the announcers said it but it was recorded wrong.
