What is the mood of Steve Smith owners (1 Viewer)

ready to get 15+ targets per game when he returns.
 Considering he had one game of 15 targets and one game of 20 last year (the only two times he has ever had 15 targets in any games in his career) I think you are shooting a little high.

He averaged under 10 per gam in 2005, so hoping for 10 targets per game is the high side.
Fair enough. I was exaggerating a little but he had 150 targets last year and that'll be a pretty nice thing to take off my bench in a few weeks if he gets healthy...better than the 3-5 an unhealthy Smith with a lingreing injury might see.

agreed - just recall that 160 targets in a year (10 per game) is a LOT of targets. And any receiver with that many targets should be a top-5 fantasy WR.

If I could get another top tier WR for him (like CJ, Fitz, Boldin, Harrison) I'd probably do it.
And who exactly is going to take the SSmith injury risk and give you one of those players? Nobody.I'm thinking the key will be this week and the W-L records of the teams involved. Teams that are 2-0 will not move Smith. Teams that are 0-2 will have more incentive if Smith's next playdate isn't published.I'm hoping to trade RMoss, or LColes, or Burress for SSmith to an 0-2 team next week.

Fortunately, I only have him in one out of 6 leagues this year, but I'm still kicking myself for taking him over C. Johnson in that league. I went against my gut and I'm paying for it as usual. It happens every time...I'll never learn. :wall: There is no way I would trade him at this point though...unless of course some other owner has him overvalued and is willing to give up someone worthy. Good Luck SS owners.

just traded for him...

gave up chester taylor, plaxico burress, andre johnson

received steve smith and lamont jordan

not looking for this to be an assistant coach forum, but thought my response is appropriate to answer the question as to what people are thinking about steve smith

I'm sitting tight with him, although if this lasts till week 4 I will trade him that is my absolute cutoff. He was my sole keeper at the beginning of august before his original injury so I made draft preparations:

Holt

Driver

Williamson

and I just picked up Colston. I wish he would come back because starting Holt,SS, and Driver would make my opponents :jawdrop: every week :football:

I have Stallworth and Andre Johnson.... someone offered me their STeve Smith and Mark Clayton for those two.

I just dont think I can do it...

I'm pretty sure I could get Smith in my league for a pretty good value, but I'm actually hesitant to make the move with him injuring *both* hammys. How are Steve Smith owners currently feeling? You obviously all paid a premium for the guy, so I can understand a reluctance to part with him. But going on 2 weeks with no output, how long before you cut bait and make him "someone else's problem."Just wondering the mood of the masses. What would it take to move him at this point? Or are you actively shopping?
I'm actually pleased that he is being prudent about this injury. Moss and Horn both struggled with hammys all last year because they wouldn't stay off the field. He will be a monster when he comes back, provided he is healthy. I just don't want this to linger all year.

I'm kickingmyself for drafting him over Holt and TO. The warning signs were all there and I ignored them. Hammys are brutal on WRs - they can certainly linger all season. I actually hope he sits out a few weeks and comes back 100% than hobble around out there and have no value the entire season.
:goodposting: JMHO, but those expecting Smith to be back to normal in a week or two are setting yourselves up for a disappointment, and weekly frustration.Smith *could* come back strong. Or, he could hobble along all year and finish WR20ish.Just ask the Moss owners from last year, who managed to finish WR17 in 2005, thanks to a meaningless wk17 blowup. When it counted, Moss averaged about 6 ppg from weeks 6 to 16 after getting dinged... good enough to where you can't risk benching him and missing a 140/2 game, but bad enough that you've got a WR on the bench outscoring him most weeks.Smith looks like he could very well be on the same road in 2006.
There is a difference in motivation and conditioning. Smith could be hobbled if he tries to come back to soon. I think Moss is lazy and not in top condition. He's been getting by on his athletic ability. I think they are different types of athletes.

Agreed. This is why the better course for Smith owners who can wait should hope that he doesn't come back until healthy. If he misses 3 or 4 games, he won't finish with 150 targets, but if still got the same numer of targets per game upon his return he would be top 5 going forward. I'd be happy to have that from my 3rd rounder--though I realize many folks got him in the second though and want that production now since they could have had Holt, TO or maybe CJ when they picked him in the second.

I am thinking about offering Warner, and Mason for Delhomme and Smith. I am worried about Smith's hamstrings though.

I just traded Smith for Chambers. I drafted Smith in round 2 and then waited awhile, taking A.Johnson as my #2. The way I see it, my WR's are horrible right now with him on the bench, so I got what I could. (I do think Chambers will have a very big year too)

Right. But I am a Steve Smith owner and was giving my input as the original poster asked. So, if the Smith owner in your league is like me, he's not ready to give his likely 2nd round choice up for 3rd - 4th round talent after just one week. I still insist that when the guy is on the field he is top 3 and I'm not ready to give up on him after one week. If I go 0-2, my thinking is that I need to put a ton of wins together and trading for mediocre production may not help me. Frankly, if I have a bad record, I'm more open to getting risk-reward guys like Smith, Portis, Foster, and Moss.

Even if you traded Smith for another equal player ...that other player can get hurt too..and Smith doesn't have a broken leg..just a bad hammy for a few weeks..an example of getting hurt..week1 KC QB Green never missed a game in what 5 years

If you have good later round backups say L. Coles and say Antonio Bryant a S. Smith owner might be ok for the short term if they have a reliable no. 2 WR already. I drafted the week before the season started and he was still the 2nd WR selected in a 12 team league. I couldn't believe the owner made the move, it a risk but a calculated risk. I projected him to miss one game and put up stats of a top 6 WR which he was pretty much tied with Boldin in my projections. If you drafted early I feel your pain though.

I could get Hines Ward for him right now - holding off - gonna see if I can hold out a few weeks. I like the way they are not rushing him back - I think there is a chance that he could be the old SS by week 5 or 6 and that is worth way more than Hines.....as long as I am not out of it by then!!! With R Moss, S Moss and D Jax I have the luxury of good backups. If I didn't I would probably make a deal

 what no Sinorice Moss..you have the other two..as for good backups yes they are but then again OAKLAND???R.Moss is not going to do good with Brooks at QB and Washington sch is not a cake walk..as for D jax..hmmm seems ok now..but the ijuries do linger on and with Branch in there in week 3..you better hope Smith gets well and FAST!!! :bye:

Just mentioning in my league as how others are viewing the situation, I grabbed Carter off waivers Thursday(12 teams, 20 man rosters) & I've gotten 2 offers already involving him in the past 24 hours (from 2 non-Steve Smith owners).

I would love to have him in my lineup but I think most SS owners would be pretty happy to have options like the Moss Bros and D Jax. Reading some threads today desperation is setting in - I should be ablr to hold the fort with these guys. Is H Ward really that much better? I'd rather gamble on SS returning. Of course, I may gamble my way to an 0-5 record by the time he does return!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Glad we were able to get a discussion going re: SS's current value & shark's opinions. The pool seemed oddly devoid of it. Think I have a much better idea as to my prospective trade partner's pov might be.

I had:

Ronnie Brown

DeShaun Foster

Willis McGahee

Chester Taylor

Marvin Harrison

Roy Williams

Michael Jenkins

Keenan McCardell

Start 2RB and 3WR

I gave up C. Taylor for S. Smith and got a mid-round draft pick for next draft out of it. (Keeper league.) I figured I could afford Taylor and squeek by a few weeks until Smith made my WR's the best in the league.

So I think it depends on whether you have the luxury of trading for him or the necessity to let him go...

I drafted Jordan and Smith 1-10 and 2-3 in one league, 0-1 and I'm getting nervous. Trying to trade for him in another league, 1-0 and hope I can get him at a reasonable price.

Someone mentioned it before but Smith's value right now resides in the record of the team how owns him. Losing your second round pick is devestating for Portis, Jordan, Caddilac and former Dom Davis owners. In those leagues exist a buyers market on Smith, those owners have to start shopping him especially if the lose this week and Smith misses another practice. In leagues where Smith owners won last week or even those who lost while having good production out of their later round picks are most likely willing to wait before they wholesale Smith.

Those are esentially the two positions I am in and Smith's value is not equal between them.

I am a SS owner who also having Tj Housh was feeling the pain of these WR injuries and lack of any sort of prognosis.

I offered 2 opponents trades to upgrade my WR's.

The offer was Deion Branch and Deuce McAllister for either Fitzgerald or TO.

The TO owner rejected my offer and countered with an offer of Ladel Betts for Housh. I passed on that.

The Fitz owner (who has Reggie Bush) rejected my offer and countered with Fitz for SS and McAllister. He told me the risk of SS not coming back anytime soon merited the asking of him and Deuce. Clearly he recognized the value of what he has in Fitz.

I have Reuben Droughns as my RB3...so the more I thought about Steve Smith sitting on the pine not helping me without any clear indication of when he can return, I told him he as a deal if he threw in Jerome Harrison.

So I am disappointed that I could not get anyone to trade me Fitz without giving up SS. Nonetheless, those lingering strained hammies on players like SS who use their jet propulsion speed to get YAC lead me to believe that I made the right trade. And while it is arguable that I gave up too much to get Fitz, I need WR production right now as I am 0-1 with a divisional loss, facing another divisional opponent in week 2.

I drafted Deuce in the 7th round...so while he may have value as a RB3, and maybe even an RB2, I dod not waste too much as I never reached for him.
