Lots of choices (Color Purple, Ghost, Sister Act, Guinan, The View), but first thought was Ghost. She was fantastic in that plus she won the Oscar for it

Oda Mae, then Sister Act.

I'm a Trek fan but she didn't appear frequently enough for it to be her signature role.

other - Whoopie Goldberg. The Spook Show - the thing that broke her - was probably the best one-person show i ever saw. Honestly - incredibly fresh & real. She took the "where is a woman who dares to act freely really at in her head?" that Lily Tomlin had explored much more decorously & hammishly, and brought it down to her guts. I thought we had a female Pryor of sorts goin on. It was a shame she didnt write much after that.

ETA: sample

Voted Delores but really she's one of the people whose main role is just being herself.

Kinda like Cher, Justin Timberlake, Betty white.

CBS all access is reworking a ten part miniseries of Stephen King's The Stand.

I'll give you one guess as to who's supposed to play Mother Abigail.

Surprisingly difficult call. My first thought was The Color Purple but really it was not because of what she brought to the role so much as was for what she endured (ie it was the story more than her).

I voted Oda Mae because that was the role that she really demonstrated some acting chops and she really stole every scene she was in.

Sister Act is clearly her biggest success as a lead character.

Be t my sentimental favorite is definitely Guinan.
