In school track, I was a 440/880 yard guy.
So, I was more endurance than quick or fast.
Can't remember a single time tho. I did win a pretty ribbon once or twice.![]()
220, 440, 880? Just how old are you guys?!I ran track every year in HS just for something to do and stay in shape. Ran the 100 and 220. I was high 4s in the 40 but I was never trained to start correctly. We basically started in the standup position. Pretty sure I could still beat Eisen if I did not pull a hammy.
One year older than Rich Eisen.220, 440, 880? Just how old are you guys?!
If @gianmarco is 5.2 I think we may have a shot.In good shape, run as much as anyone on this board except the true craziesbut I've never been a sprinter.
There's no way I'm going under 5 unless a cougar is chasing me. I'd bet on under 6, 5.5 would be a challenge.
I was going to say the same. I ran with my buddy who was 0.1 seconds faster. It's possible I was 5.4 and he was 5.3, but I'm pretty sure I was 5.2 and he was 5.1. Either way, you guys could easily approach 5 seconds and likely break it by a little. If @gianmarco is 5.2 I think we may have a shot.

Bingo.After some sleuthing
TIL - THe US switched from yards to meters in high school track events in the late seventies.... some states a little later...
I remember the whole "push to go metric" for everything - that never happened. But I assumed track and field was always metric
You guys are old....
Mid 80s they were still running those events. Detroit did not like change though..you saw how long it took to get rid of the Pinto and K-Cars.After some sleuthing

Some guys on the 1978 high school mile relay team didn't like that we broke their school record by .6 running 1600 meters in 1986. So we broke their old record by 6.7 seconds in 1987.Mid 80s they were still running those events. Detroit did not like change though..you saw how long it took to get rid of the Pinto and K-Cars.

a 4.5 in HS would have put you in the top 1% nationallyhttps://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/3e1vfa/ochow_40yard_dash_result_translated_to_100_sprint/
Pretty interesting. 100m times translated to 40yd times.
Based on that, I would have been 4.5 in high school. I still play soccer, and based on how I match up against young players, I'm sure I'm under 5.0 still. I got dusted in a flat-out sprint of about 30 yards when I was about 42, that's the only time I've been sure I was slower than an opponent as an adult. When I play in open age leagues, I'm still the fastest out there, but I can't do it more than about once every 5 minutes.
You’re right, I read the chart wrong. 4.7 is more likely, so probably above 5.0 now.mr. furley said:a 4.5 in HS would have put you in the top 1% nationally
did you play sports in college?
