1) Draft elite talent regardless of age, take advantage of those passed up just because people view them as 'older'
2) Trade away all draft picks you can for more talent
3) Win this year or next year
4) If you don't win, find a new league for year 3 and repeat steps 1-3
Lame. Stick with redraft if you're not capable of thinking long-term.
I've been pushing for a Black List on this for a while. Guys are leaving really ####ty teams that cannot be filled without a discount, citing some rule or personal matter, yet join several new leagues the very next year. When you call them out on it they play the victim. I suppose it might be difficult to police, but there has to be a way when guys in leagues with "respected" owners are dumping the most awful of teams and joining new drafts, attempting to replicate what they saw work from their competitors in the leagues they dumped because they were scared of real competition. I digress.
Well, not to cast stones, but didn't you join a league I was in about 3 years ago and then leave after the first year after you spun some trades and it didn't pan out?Just saying: people have reasons..Not everyone is looking to act like the above poster.
I have never been in a league where trades didn't pan out. I sold out of several leagues with commissioner's approval in several leagues, but the teams were uber-dominant. Care to link me to where you are talking about?ETA: I have lost trades. And some very badly.
MFL is down right now, but it's not important. Again, not trying to bust on anyone. Was just saying that sometimes its not a good fit and people jump in and then back out. I believe the league was Tillman something. Our commish Mike brought you in. You played that one year and won a couple of games and then you were gone. I just remember being surprised because I had seen you post here a lot and figured you were going to be there a while.
No problem. If I only won a few games, it is because I took over a rebuild and probably put myself in position by investing in ascending players I believed would help me win the next year. If you have a link, I'd love to look back to see what calls I hit and missed - I'd venture a guess i hovered around a 70-80% hit rate. I can guarantee I left the team far better than when I took it over, and that if you pull the link up my trades and roster from take over to end will reflect that. I may have taken it over for free or something, cannot remember. Who is Mike on FBG? I wonder if we could also get him to chime in, as I was very open in my communication with any commissioner I have ever been in a league with, especially if I was leaving. I can guarantee you I have never, ever, ever left a dynasty team in poor shape. If Mike suggests he had to sell this team at a discount, I will make him whole now. The year after I sold out of many of my leagues, one owner racked up an ROI of 400% in the first year, after paying 300% of the buy in of the leagues he took over. I put my reputation and skill set up against anyone in dynasty.
I understand your point, but I don't think you are really understanding mine. This is not an issue of activity (or lack thereof) in a league, of shady commissioners, of a rule system that was drastically changed. These are guys joining 10 dynasties and leaving numerous ones (or better yet, finding ways to get booted so it looks a bit less like quitting). I understand situations arise where owners feel they don't want to go on, but not being competitive isn't and should never be one of them. These guys are afraid of man-ing up, learning, and turning something around. They are in it for quick profit. You must understand that my nature does not allow me to walk away from anything I am not comfortable handing to the next person.
Guys who walk away from leagues in poor shape, often times causing the other 11 owners to eat the discount fee, should be known and called out - that was my point.
To the OP, many different ways to win. When I was 18 I sent poor offers, some of which would get accepted. Unfortunately, I can't do this anymore, but there are many who rely on these type trades to win, as their eye for talent is actually so incredibly poor that they only are able to rely on the masses. Sometimes the masses do have it right. I see all the time people say, don't follow the herd. It's not as easy as that. The key is to know when to follow the masses and when to fade the masses - you don't know that without the ability to evaluate on your own.
