What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

Besides chatting with friends, the only thing that got me through the Sox douching tonight: Cadillac Mountain Stout. It was pretty tasty but a disappointment after reading that it was the top competitor to the Allagash brews here in Maine.

I sampled some Allagash last week and tried this tonight. All these beers taste very rich, but almost too rich. I'm just wondering if I should be starting lower on the food chain so to speak. I'm only 21 so if I come off as not appreciating these complex beers, that's why. I guess drinking real beer has come as sort of a shock after drinking watery domestics for so long.

I'm hoping to hit up the D.L. Geary's and Casco Bay breweries this week.
Four words:CASCO BAY RIPTIDE RED.

You'll thank me later. :banned:
I've read good things about the ole Riptide Red.Not sure I will be able to make it to the breweries for sampling tomorrow as I haven't called in advance to book it. Hopefully they'll be cool with it. Even if I can't, I found the local beer goldmine last night and can pick up a bomber there within the next couple days.
Portland Public Market? Great beer selection there.

I don't really know what's going on with the Portland Public Market right now.I'm in Auburn and what we have is Florian's Market, a convenience store near the fringe of Auburn and New Auburn. I'm pretty excited to go back and get me some brews.

Made a trip to Chicone's accross the border this morning before work hoping that they would have some Bitter Woman From Hell. Great choice, as it looked like they had just restocked some stuff. I grabbed:

All the BWFH they had - 4 4packs (at only 4.99each!)

A 4 pack of Founders Imperial Stout

6er of Alpha King

6er of Sand Creek Wild Ride IPA (never seen it there)

Ommegang Hennepin

Ommegang Rare Vos

So much for trying to drink down some of what I have around the house. Maybe we need to start up BIF II...

Brew Fest to bubble up for first time at Expo Center

SAN FRANCISCO - It’s frosty. It’s bubbly. And it’s coming to the Peninsula.

The San Mateo County Expo Center will host its first-ever event devoted to beer, the Bay Area Brew Fest, this weekend. One of a handful of such events around the Bay Area, the festival will tickle the taste buds of thirsty brew-hounds looking for another way to enjoy beers made locally and around the world.

More than 60 breweries have signed on to participate, including San Francisco’s Speakeasy and Beach Chalet, local favorites such as New Belgium and Rogue, and Peninsula and coastal brewpubs, including Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, Santa Cruz’s Seabright and Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery, according to Geoff Hinds, fairs and festivals manager for the Expo Center.

Founded six years ago, the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company has made a name for itself by going to events like the Bay Area Brew Fest, according to marketing manager Wayne Meyer.

“Anytime we can reach out to the local marketplace and get them to taste our beverages, it’s good,” Meyer said. Doing that is especially important while Devil’s Slide is closed for repairs, he said, because it raises awareness for one of the brewery’s personal campaigns: the Devil’s Slide tunnel. The brewery created two beers in honor of the Devil’s Slide project: Tunnel Vision, which has since sold out, and CalTrans Brown. “It moves slowly,” Meyer explained.

The brewing company will bring a handful of its beers to the festival, including the crowd-pleasing Maverick’s amber ale.

In addition to the brews, the event will offer barbecue and other food, a NASCAR race simulator and live music. And yes, patrons will be allowed to drive the cars after they’ve been tippling.

“We would prefer they simulate driving rather than actually drive,” Hinds said. “It’s a way for them to race their friends and figure out how reduced their reaction times are.”

Local music acts It’s a Whale, Ride the Blinds, Diamond Late and INQ will perform throughout the day — and probably do their fair share of tasting, according to INQ drummer and San Francisco resident Cole Berggren.

“I plan on visiting the Anderson Valley booth and asking them why they discontinued their hefeweizen,” Berggren said. “I cut my teeth on that beer.”

The Bay Area Brew Fest takes place Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. at the San Mateo County Event Center, 2495 Delaware St., San Mateo. The entrance fee — $20 in advance, $25 at the door — includes a tasting glass and 15 tasting tickets, although more can be purchased separately. For more information, call (650) 574-3247.

Participating Breweries include:

Abbot · Alaskan · Anderson Valley · Asahi · Beach Challet Brewery · Beer Bitzch · Big Sky Brewing · Blackthorn Cider · Blue Moon · Boston Beer/San Adams · Brasserie Castelain · Brasserie Dubuisson · Brasserie Dupont · Brouwerij Boon · Brouwerij Slaghmuylder · Butte Creek · Carlsberg · Cayucos Beach Ale · Chau Tien Brewery · Coast Range · Coastal Fog Brewery · Coors · Deschutes · Devils Canyon · Dragon Head Stout · Elephant Beer · Farmhouse Brewery · Firestone · Fischer · Gordon Biersch · Hacker-Pschorr · Half Moon Bay · Hebrew · Hopf Family Wheat Beer · Hoppy · Kloster Brewery Reutberg · Kona · Lagunitas · Lost Coast · Marston · Moretti · Mountain Meadow Mead · Murphy’s Irish · Nectar Ales · New Belgium · Nude Beer · Paulaner · Phuket Lager Beer · Reaper Ale · Redhook · Rogue · Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery · Seabright · Sequoia · Shipyard · Sierra Nevada · Skull Splitter · Speakeasy · Sudwerks · Tetley’s · Welsh ESB · Wexford · Widmere · Youngs

I read an article today in the local paper about a new Eastern European market and that they had some Russian beer, so I swung by after work. Here's my loot:

Radegast Premium Lager from the Czech Rebuplic.

Bogemian Pale from Russia (at 8.4 percent). Not listed at BA.

And, to add to my top 100 beers, the Okocim Porter from Poland. As a matter of fact, I have already popped this one open and am enjoying a sip. I had to do a bit of reading, because on my first sip I could tell that this was a bottom fermented 'Porter', and it is. It is remeniscent of Dopplebocks and has a nice roasted taste and hop bitterness to go with the sweetness. Nice little alcohol burn to finish it off. This beer is starting off really well.

I wouldn't be offended if you slipped one of those in the box for our trade. Great beer, and I can't get it here. Got the first one via trade with a guy at BA.

I wish I had grabbed a second one. I was going to try and box your stuff up tonight but I will hold off and pick one more of these up. The store is within a mile of the house.

No hurry on the shipping. I probably won't be able to get mine out before Monday. I'll try for Friday, however, because last time it took exactly a week to get to NC, and it would be nice to have the beers for the weekend.

Its amazing how similar the Okocim Porter is to a good Dopplebock. There is something about the character of a bottom fermented beer that gives it a unique, crisp finish. But boy, is this thing sweet. Not a session beer, but it is still very good.

I know I've had it, but its been awhile. I need to keep my eyes out for it.

This was the only place on the web I could find anything on the Bogemian. There are a few other beers from the brewery though. Maybe I can add it to BA, it would be my first review :bag: .
Quoting myself again. I think this is pretty much the same beer. The label description matches up, and they both are words for 'Bohemian'. Judging by the 2.4 score, it doesn't look like I have a lot to look forward too. But hey, its still beer.

Can I just keep doing this? Only 529 more times and I can catch up to Wingnut. To make this post worthwhile, the Okocim warms up nicely. I think I am going to try the Krazy Ivan next.

Alright, on to the Russian Nightmare. Pours a golden yellow color, reminding me of my first pee this morning. Smells of corn and horse testes. Tastes like Russian coalminer underarm sweat and mothballs. Overall, not too bad.
