What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Tip Top's basement?
Nope, I guess I need to post that since furley was good enough to post. Give me a minute here.
Dats furley's?
Not exactly, although furley's was impressive. He posted pictures over the weekend. I am waiting for this slow xxx flickr to upload here.
Btw, is that BeerBeing on BA? I can't remember.
Flickr is slow.

Almost forgot the title of the thread here.

Started with a growler of Masala Mama.

Then Victory Storm King Stout

Then Stone Ruination.

Now Tyranena Bitter Woman from Hell.

I probably have nine cases of beer but I don't have a decent cellar. They are all in boxes stacked in my closet.
I bought a $40 metal rack from Target. It works nicely. I had one small fridge and the 2nd one I took when someone was going to throw it away. Not too much of an investment for me other than the beer.

Oh, and what do you have in there? Maybe we should be talking about another trade.

was at a wedding in Yorktown, VA last weekend, and scooped up one of those baby Heineken kegs for the hotel room after party. I was very impressed - easy to tap and pours a great draft.

Did it smell like Heineken normally does?

didn't notice the smell - was pretty banged up at that point. i'm not a Heineken drinker, but curiousity and the idea of having a mini-keg provoked my purchase and I came away impressed.I'll definitely be tapping one a few Sunday mornings this fall. Something about pouring my own drafts makes me excited enough to overlook the overpriced average taste.

You can get a bunch of good German beers in 5 liter kegs too. I know I have seen Paulaner, Dinkel Acker, etc. Also Bell's has Oberon in these. You can probably find better than Heineken.

thx for the heads up - i'll look for these.

And yes, yes I know about the Labatt's. My dad and my cousin, who are both helping me finish my basement, both drink it.
 Very nice, TT.Do you cellar/age beers in the fridge or on the shelf? My fridge is a little colder than optimal (stays about 40 deg. F), but my basement is a bit too warm (65-70). Your basement probably stays colder than mine though. I've got my Bigfoot in the fridge and my Westy sitting out as I read that higher temps can speed up the aging process somewhat.

i'm trying to get my brother to bring me some good good beers but i dunno what they carry... the website looks a little dated as far as inventory.

Stuff to age is just sitting out on the shelves. I don't have optimum temperature, but it does ok.

This guy has a great selection of beer.
i say this as a guy who has way too much beer on hand..... but...... there comes a time when you've got to drink some of it.he's got to have a few hundred bottles down there. does he just collect them?
No kidding. I buy beer to drink, not look at.
After stockpiling for BIF, BOTMC and a couple other trades, I had 220+ in the basement. Down to around 100 or so after I get things sent out. Can't wait either. I've found some good ones along the way (GI Imperial, Dreadnaught, etc.), but certainly some stinkers (like Bell's Third Coast). I have some I want to cellar (maybe 20-25 at most). But I am working down my list. When I buy beer now, I try to find the big names that I already love like Dreadnaught (won't find any) or stuff like that.Anyway, I agree here that you buy it to drink or have on hand when others want to drink. Your inventory turnover ratio necessarily needs to be somewhat high given the commodity. Not talking about the cellared beers though, as those should be handled at a different rate than the usual ones.

Duckboy,

Working on the shipment. Have to find a strong enough box, then will do so. Might not be before I get yours, but yours will be on the way this week or early next week.

My wife's already  about me having about 80 beers in the pantry and 10 or so in the fridge. "Get your own fridge..put your beers somewhere else." It's not like the pantry is small. My daughters bedroom in our first house might have been smaller. So, being the good husband I am, I'll be buying more beer on the way home tonight.

That's good of you. My wife is much happier now that I don't have any of my beer in the regular fridge.

Mine's stored in boxes on shelves in the basement, next to the old fridge which has the cold ones and some other stuff. Pretty much out of the way. She doesn't snipe at me for storing the beer in the fridge, just for buying too much of it... :bag:

I'm going to buy myself a small fridge eventually. When I find a decent used one. No sense in buying a new one. The pantry has a spot for a freezer. Sounds like a good spot for my "beer fridge".

Working at an appliance delivery warehouse, I see all kinds of fridges come back that work. Took a little while for me to find a mini, but one came.

Lucky. :kicksrock: My wife's brother and his wife go to yard sales all the time. I went to his house last weekend, and sitting there is this mini-fridge. Bells go off in my head, I see an opportunity. They don't need a beer fridge, they barely even drink. "Oh, you got a beer fridge?" "Yeah, isn't it great? Been looking for one." Opened it up and he offered me a corona. :X

Back to craigslist for me.

Haven't been there in a couple of years, and never to thrifty. My recommendations:- Anything he can still scrounge up from Heavyweight, esp. the Hammer, Lunacy, and Baltus.

- 750s of Southampton, especially the Double White, Saison, Biere de Garde, etc.

- See if they have any Captain Lawrence brews

- Sixpoint make some solid brews

these are on my list. my brother is heading over there wednesday to scout the landscape. thankfully he's within a couple blocks so it's no big deal.i KNOW they have Southampton (verified) and smoe of the Captain Lawrence. was told no Sixpoint but i'm holding out hope.

Just tried a place in Evanston. Been meaning to go, and the selection is pretty good. I did find something I had never seen before. So that was worth the trip. I picked up their three remaining of those on the shelf. Also grabbed another FFFs that I want to try. Finally broke down and bought this also.

Nice haul  Looks like I'll be having some Masala Mama tonight after my survivor draft :banned: - thanks TT!

Very nice. The Pride & Joy is my wife's favorite FFF. For a mild ale, it's good.
