What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (19 Viewers)

Smutty Nose Old Brown Dog Ale, and snifters of Grand Marnier. Good beer, but at 10.99 a sixer, I'd just as soon have a Newcastle at 8.99 a sixer.
Newcastle was my gateway beer. Always have a soft spot for that one.
It has a quality all its own, very much like Sam Adams Boston Lager. My two favorites, but I always like experimenting. Like Fat Tire, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and Anchor Steam for their uniqueness as well.
Yep, Sam Adams is always good, too.I can honestly say that despite all the beers I've had, I have never in my life had Fat Tire. I actually physically SAW it for the first time just this past May.

Maybe because you live in the east. More common I believe in the West, Midwest and the South. Good quality taste, rich and full, unique. I rate it just below Newcastle and Sammy but just as worthy.

Yeah, we don't get it where I am. Kinda sucks, it seems like everyone who's ventured into craft beer got their start on Fat Tire, and I've never even had it. Someday.

I may not drink the same beer twice again, evah.
You buy beer by the bottle?
I have been, and I like it. But, I'm not much of a drinker. I like sobriety. I just figured out a couple months ago what type of fancy beers I really like. I was a poser pretending to like beers I really didn't like. The whole IPA craze didn't work for me. I do not like strong hoppy bitter beer. I like smooth sweet creamy malty beer. So thanks to the advice of some here and some research on my own, it looks like I have about 400 beers to sample one at a time. I also found a great liquor store with about 200 of them on the shelf, sold by the bottle. Newcastle was my original favorite premium. Well, Negra Modelo was in the early 80s, but that's going too far back. I got turned on to Fat Tire late 90s. They're the basic taste profile I prefer, so sampling Double Bocks, Belguims, Scotch Ales, Barley Wines, and misc malties has introduced me to several I like better than FT and Newcastle... to my surprise, btw.

I would very much like some Pliny.
My friend's brother flew in from San Fran today and the date on the bottle was 07/11/11. Very fresh stuff, it was amazing. I spoke to his brother and tried to make the push to get some more pliny.
Lots of Pliny on the shelves here. Not interested. Imperial IPA, bleh. :hophead:
You in California? I am jealous.
Yes, the IPA wonderland. I'm going to try Dogfish Head Malt Beverage next.

We have some good beer here, but I'd love to have access to Russian River, Alpine etc.

The wife is out of town and it is a beautiful night to have a beer with dinner on the deck. Pick which beer I drink as I can't decide:

Ommegang Hennepin Saison

Jolly Pumpkin's ES Bam Biere

Dogfish Head Squall IPA

Wife is also out of town with the newborn at the inlaws, sitting outside and grilling. Tonight's rotation:

Oberon

Lost Coast Great White

Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold

Victory Summer Love

Lake Erie Monster on the back burner...

It's hot here so I went lighter.

Yesterday was:

New Holland Full Circle

Dogfhishhead 60 Min IPA

Boulder Hazed and Infuzed

Three Floyds Arctic Panzer Wolf

Also picked up a Theobroma from Dogfishhead.

We're going with the Kasteel Doncker tonight. Got hooked on this stuff working in Belgium a few times. A just completely dominant Trappist ale. Heavy as a ton of bricks alcohol wise (11% ABV), and tastes just amazing. Worth the price a few times over, give it a go if you can find it.

Young's Old Nick Barley Wine. The nose gave me over ripe apricots. :banned: Starts out toasty with a weak bitter after taste, but as my tastebuds acclimated it just got sweeter and maltier. Nice beer. Coffee colored. Thick tan head settles to a lacy fizz that rebuilds with each taste keeping it creamy.
Wow... where did you find that? I wasn't even sure they made it anymore. You should check out Three Philosophers by Ommegang. Malty beers are the best :hifive:

Enjoying a nice Shiner Kosmos. Love this beer, hate the fact that the only way you can get it is 2 bottles inside the Shiner Family Reunion 12-pack.

I'm sure this won't win me any originality awards, but I started off with a couple of Magic Hat #9's and moved into some Red Stripe. I'm enjoying them...
