What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Drinking a Weihenstephaner Korbinian Dopplebock.

Alot like Celebrator. Great beer.
Well, because of the link, I figured out who you are on BA. Not that it was all that difficult to figure out.Tonight I'm drinking some Red Seals and Sierra IPAs. Nothing fancy.
Yeah, it aint hard to figure out lolI stayed away from the hops tonight and followed the above beer with a Rogue Mocha Porter. Now Im drinking a Casco Bay Winter Port Ale. Its so-so. The Mocha Porter is pretty good though.

Im up to 56 reviews on BA...I wish I reviewed every beer I drank but its just aint gonna happen.

I feel like such a degenerate. I was in a liquor store at 9:30 AM on a Monday morning. :bag:

We had to take my son over to Athens (about 30 minutes away) this morning for some bloodwork (low iron, no big deal). My wife wanted me to go with them since she didn't know how our 9-month old would handle getting poked by a needle (he was a champ). Well, I got a trip to the best beer store out of the deal.

This is probably the best beer store in GA outside of Atlanta. I'd only been there once before, and this time I discovered they have more than I thought - Great Divide, Avery, North Coast, etc. along with many Belgian beers. And I got to talking to one of the guys there and found out that more are on the way soon thanks to a Savannah distributor - Victory, Magic Hat, Stone, etc. Excellent news!

This time I picked up:

Rochefort 10

Ayinger Celebrator

Aventinus

Great Divide Hercules Double IPA

Great choices. Glad to hear Stone will be making it to Georgia soon....Hopefully distribution will be state wide so I can make 3 hour road trips across the border for cases of Stone (6 hour round trip)!!!!!!!!!!Right now Im about to crack open a Rogue IP2A in a ceramic bottle.

Cut Throat Pale Ale
Thats a great name for a beer. It better be hoppy. How is it?

This Rogue IP2A is excellent. I wasnt expecting grassiness. Its a nice twist. And its pretty balanced, too. Why did I wait so long to try this?!?!?!

Just got back from the BA Extreme Beer Fest. I tried/sampled a lot of beers. Here's the list:

Ummm Beer
Did you try the Megahopped Ruination? How about the Avery Mephistopheles Stout (Ive got a bottle of that in the fridge right now)And whats with the new Unibroue...brew?

Thats a long friggin list. How many beers do ya think you tried?
I meant to try the megahopped, in fact that was going to be my first one, but went with HopSuey from Pizza Port instead. And then somehow I never made it back to the megahopped. I did try the Mephistopheles. It has very good flavor, but the alcohol comes through way too much for me. For the VIP ticket, I got 15 beer coupons. 4 oz samples, so it's not like I got hammered (I might have at the pre-party the night before ;) ). Between freebies ("don't worry about a ticket") and the 15 tickets I had, I tried 21 of the beers. I tried most of the beers from Founders and loved them all. Pizza Port lived up to the hype, but I didn't try Le Woody which was a favorite around our table. Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball was very good. Some of the little known brewers, like The Shed and Milly's Tavern didn't get much traffic but had some good offerings. Dogfish table was always crowded (women like Sam), so I didn't even bother going over. Unibrou 15 tasted just like all the other Unibrou's (10 and 11).
Cool - I always hit the lesser known places. DFH usually has too long a line. The bolded part above: I like freebies as much if not more than the next guy, but the fest workers there are usually sternly warned against this. Part of the proceeds go to charity and the Bros. could get in trouble w/ the MA liquor board if the freebies get out of hand. Nothing wrong with taking advantage of it; but the pourers should have known better.

A leftover winter ale....

followed by a Celebrator. :pickle:

Only one though. I'm on call.

Maybe I'll have one more. Maybe. I deserve it I've been working on work projects ever since I got home from work.

Working on a Raison D'Etre. These things a friggin limited in my stash...DFH needs to seriously get their act together and get back to distributing on the Westside.

Started with a draft of Hazed & Infused, then had a few Tampa Bay Brewing Co's Elephant Foot IPAs, then finished it off with a draft of Dogfish Head 90minute.

Yes, I said a 90minute draft. :P

Not that this will add any sort of insightful commentary to the thread, but I am currently enjoying a 12 ounce bottle of Michelob Amber Bock, soon to be followed by an indefinite amount of boxed wine.

I tried drinking an Avery Samaels Oak-Aged Ale. I say tried because I poured it out.

It was simply awful....I should of known after reading it was "flavored with oak chips". I'm now 0-2 with the Avery Demon beers. The only one left is the Mephistopheles Stout which I am still holding out hope for.

Avery is letting me down

The Meph is getting rediculous ratings over at ratebeer.com - it's ranked # 6 overall  . It has over 60 reviews over there, but only 6 reviews over at BA. I have a bottle of it in my fridge, but Im a bit scared to pop the top.edit: Didnt like th Beast Grand Cru either?

Glad I didnt buy either when I saw the Meph Stout...they had all 3 but I figured Id just get the new one.

I had it at the extreme beer fest. I didn't like it and neither did the other people I was hanging with. Nice flavor but too much alcohol comes through. Quite a few people liked it though according to the EBF thread at BA.Getting ready to crack open a Stone Ruination.

Edit: I wonder how well the Mephistopheles will age. It might mellow out nicely in the cellar/pantry.

No, I poured the Beast out too. I still have another bottle of the Beast but I think I'll sit on it for a couple of years to see if it rounds out.

Dont you hate it when you pay a hefty price for a beer only to find out it royally sucks and isnt worth drinking? Myself, if I pay alot for a single bottle, Im gonna try to choke it down, although Ive poured out 2 or 3....cant remember what they were, but they sucked.

I didn't pay a lot for it, about $7 for a 6 pack, but I've been trying to choke down Lancasters Amish Four Grain Ale for about a month or 2. I wish I had read these reviews before I bought it:
Taste is mouthpuckingly tart, and leaves little room for any other flavor. Either this is the most lemony APA I've even seen, or this brew has had a hard life.
Taste- Aagh!! What the hell? An ungodly display at the sides of the tongue, with a sour milk, rancid malt aftertaste. Overwhelming use of rye, to the point where it is all you get. Hops are trying to come forward, but the tongue-curdling mess this beer is dominates. I don't know... maybe this is a bad bottle, but this is awful.
:(

You're not the only one who has been disappointed by Avery. I find most of their big beers to be unbalanced at best, undrinkable at worst. I'm not impressed by Avery at all and it will be a long while before I give one of their beers another go.

I love the Reverend, Hog Heaven and the Czar. The rest of them are either average or suck.

Sipping on a Titan IPA. I'm sure I mentioned this on page 11 or something, but this is a great brewery. I love the Hercules, the Oak Aged Yeti, and the Old Ruffian. Good stuff.

There are elements I like about both the Reverend and the Hog Heaven, but I still find both of them a bit unbalanced and not up to the pedigree of some of the better brewers out there. (Opinions are like #######s of course.)

I'd agree. The Reverend is definately on the sweet side, but it is unique. As for the Hog Heaven, I'm pretty much a sucker for barleywines, I like most of them.

 I've been imbibing several Bigfoot ales in the last month. The Old Ruffian from Great Divide is also one of my favorites. I have yet to try the Stone Old Guardian.

Its Barleywine month at the Stuffed Sandwich near Pasadena. Sam, bless his soul, buys kegs then sits on them for years to age them. Then he does vertical tastings with various years and breweries. I think I'm gonna make a run up there tomorrow...check out this lineup on tap.ANCHOR OLD FOGHORN BARLEYWINE '2005' ~ U.S.A.

I really like that Chocolate Stout. I've only had one that someone brought back from a trip because we can't get it here, but it made quite an impression.

Widmer Hefeweizen tonight boys. I've grown addicted to the wheat beers; can't believe all the time I wasted with beers I could see through.

:goodposting: What other Wheat beer have you had?

Don't limit yourself to beers that are Hefewiezens or Wheats. A Witte, Wit, or White beer will be similar.

If you like Hefe's, I hope you've rewarded yourself with a Paulaner or Schneider. I love Schneider Weisse.

I've tried Hefeweizens from Pyramid, Paulaner, Sam Adams, Blue Moon, Ultimate Weis and the aforementioned Widmer Bros. to name a few.Of the ones I mentioned, everyone will tell you that the Paulaner is what a wheat beer should be (and is really good), but for some reason, I really enjoy the Widmer Bros served cold. Maybe it's become my "common" wheat beer : ) I truly disliked Sam Adams hefe - I'd rather down a Blue Moon (from Coors).

Got any other suggestions? I have a BevMo near by so I have decent access.

I do like the Paulaner, and I'll definately try the Schneider if I see it. I may have sounded like I prefered the Widmer, but I guess what I'm saying is that it more readily available (even carry it at the local drug store) and its less expensive. A solid beer for the price/availablity.

I'd recommend Schneider Weisse and Franzikaner. The Pyramid, Sam Adams and Blue Moon are all American Wheats, which I'm not terribly fond of.

IMO Hoegarden is the gold standard. You should also try Alagash White. Others mentioned are very good too. I am not a Blue Moon fan though.
