What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

Furley, how have you been on BA so long and only gathered 32 reviews?
I've been on almost as long and have 9 reviews. Just not interested in reviewing really. Actually I've been lurking there since mid 2003. Only signed up because Todd forced you to login to search the site.
Now that I've started I love reviewing. I feel uncomfortable drinking a beer that I've already reviewed when I know there is one in my fridge that I haven't. Probably a sickness but I'm working on it.

 It's guys like you that do reviews that make the site work. I wish they didn't force a 250 word minimum. Not that it's all that hard to come up with that, but sometimes I'd rather just say "that beer sucked" or "I really like this beer"...know what I mean?

Solid brew. Enjoy.

From the "Did You Know" archives....At the beginning of 2003, Duvel Moortgat took over the American Ommegang brewery, an American brewery that brews speciality beers in authentic Belgian style. Its main brands Ommegang, white beer Ommegang Witte, Hennepin, Rare Vos and Three Philosophers are bottle-conditioned high fermentation beers, a procedure that was refined in close collaboration with Duvel Moortgat. In addition, Ommegang uses Belgian malt and the same hops as the Duvel Moortgat brewery, these being Saaz and Styrie.

Ommegang, a beer in genuine abbey style, is characterised by a deep brown colour and is famous for its complex fruity aromas with conditioned sweetness (honey, caramel and toffee) supplemented with a touch of liquorice and chocolate. The hoppy Hennepin, in the beste tradition of Belgian ’Saisons’, has a delicate sparkle and a soft feeling in the mouth. Rare Vos is comparable to a Belgian amber beer: floury and fruity with a creamy head. Caramel malt and dry, fruity elements are responsible for the refined taste and balance and the soft, smooth aftertaste. In the latest addition to the family, Three Philosophers, the spirit of Belgian black cherries melts with the rich tradition of Belgian high fermentation beers. In this way, Ommegang achieves an attractive, bottle-conditioned high fermentation brew with sweet malt and dark cherry.

With this takeover the group wants to concentate further on the American market for artisan speciality beers.

only started reviewing in April or so. and at my current drinking rate it'll take a while to build on that number.
Yeah, you better sack up there. I have already rated 10% of what you have total tonight. ;)
:lmao:if my week gets any ####tier i will be slaughtering beer tomorrow nite. might even push the 4 beer mark.
My day sucked today with people being ####ty about me not being able to talk at work today. I have a feeling I might have a couple. :banned:

Yeah. When reviewing a pale or amber, I feel that way a lot. You can only say the same thing so many times.

Well, I haven't sent August BOTM 1 for a couple reasons. Gonna see if something strikes me during my road trip and it's been hot as hades around here.

interesting..i assume that the takeover has been favorable with beer advocates?i've had the abbey ale and the three philosophers. def. preferred the latter.

Rare Vos compares favorably to Duvel. Try that if you see it. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Flemish Primitive Wild Ale - Pig Nun.It's OK. But, it's no Beatification."I know Beatification. And you, sir, are no Beatification."
Did you really expect to find another Beatification? I suggest you start trading for some on BA. Stock up before it is too hard to get. Oh, and thanks again for letting me try one.

I'm good with the rest that I have. FatMax was going to try to find some for some of us, but I never follow up about that. My loss.Did you finally try it. You hadn't mentioned that you opened it.

Last year in vegas I went for my brother birthday and drank from 10am Friday to 2am Sat morning. Ended up at Guillies. With a $15 dollar wristband you get all you can drink PBR for the night. Ended up being drug out by my friends and puking into the coin return of a slot machine on the way out. :football:
Okay, you are in the running.Current odds:Kilgore 2-1Gator 4-5FatMax 3-1Mr Furley 1000-1Bax 7-1Tiptop 100-1Skylord 10-1Nucular George (taken off the board)3'Cs 8-1Fullback Fro 3-1
Can I get some action on "the field?" Because I will destroy you all.
i guess i am what you would call a "9 beer queer." 9 beers being the equivalent of 9 4- 4.5% ABV brews before i start feelin' :X . this would put me in the 10th-15th ranked range in terms of last man standing. granted i weigh 160 on the richter...

No I haven't. Might save it for my 100th review or some other landmark.

Also, my Damnation should arrive tomorrow. :happydance:
Unfortunately, Damnation is no Beatification, neither in style or quality. But take that for what it's worth. A bad Russian River beer is still better than 90% of the beers on the market. I'm not saying Damnation is bad, because it isn't, but don't expect another religious experience.

Don't feel bad. Look at my odds and I weigh 270. I showed my wife and she just said, "I guess those guys really don't know you well."

I'm not. I already talked to Natalie at length about both the Beatification and what to expect from their other offerings. So I know it's a totally different style and that's fine. Just wanted to try another offering from them to really find out if they deserve their ranking as my current favorite brewer. After Beatification, all else pales.

That's what I figured. No problem. We should talk about what I have here that you might want though. Maybe we can hook up with a small trade. I don't want to get bogged down in shipping costs.

i've seen it but there are too many things to try right now. chimay is probably next.this fruit fly landed on the bottleneck of my duvel every time i poured the thing. like it was trained like one of pavlov's dogs or something. but damn, i can't blame the little bugger for trying to get at such a good brew.

Finally popped the top on a hefe. Had to hit the weights for a while. Met a buddy for beers last night. "Dude, you're getting fat."

The only beer to rival Beatification is Supplication. Good luck on that one

Do they have a release "schedule" for Supplication? Or is it whenever it happens to roll around? It seems to be somewhat random to me, but maybe I'm just late to the scene.

Had enough ho hum beers so far. Now for a beer that I know I will enjoy. Hopdevil.
Almost did the same, but went with a Clipper City Winter Storm instead. It's got some age on it so I want to get rid of it before it gets too old.

Might be drinking a little too fast here. Only been home about two hours and I am half way done with my 5th beer.
Thats called "Training".

Don't think I really need training. I have had a beer or two here and there.

I need to get back into "training" for my trip to Germany. Of course that flies into the face of trying to drop a few pounds. :wall:
