What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

at first i didn't mind this guy. but he proved to be a ##### time & again. he also posts at another beer forum that i read.. and he's a ##### there as well. he seems to specifically go out of his way to nit-pick, #####, challenge, fight, whatever with the owners/founders of every site he posts at.

why? who knows.

but good riddance to the dude.

What happened to Venom?

Posted: 08-04-2006 13:17:54 UTC

--

We weren’t going to post anything about this, because frankly it’s nobody’s business, but there’s some misinformed gossip going on, some concern, and some childish actions going on. Few are coming to the source for answers, so here:

* Venom was our #1 complained about user on the site for years.

* He was warned numerous times to use his passion and knowledge in a positive way, instead of living up to his username. We’ve cut him tons of slack in the past as we know that deep down he’s passionate about beer and a solid guy. But he just didn’t listen.

* Last week we got 2 complaints in the same day, so we decided to put him in a temporary timeout until this past Monday morning.

* We heard from several sources that Venom was blaming his timeout on a very minor argument with Cfahooligan in the Beer & Food group for the timeout, that we read Beer Mails (like we have the freagin' time), etc, etc … none of which is true.

* The gossip got bad over this past weekend at some beer gatherings.

* Venom couldn’t take the timeout like a man, continued to act out, fed the rumor mills with false information, and finally emailed us with a request to be deleted. If he had just taken the timeout for what it was, he’d be back on-line now.

* And if only Loren was Venom … none of this would have happened, but this is all on him.

For anyone who has an issue with this:

* We highly advise you to not get cute with your profile (making comments or posting avatars related to any of this). We’ll give you the option to clean up your avatar now, or we’ll remove the avatar once, but the second time you’ll be removed from the site permanently. No warning. So grow the hell up. This our business and a place for others to learn about beer … not your personal play ground.

* This was not fun for Jason or I, and our patience on the matter is running thin due to people continuing to gossip and pushing our buttons. So if you can’t handle all of this, please do the adult thing and simply leave or we’ll be forced to show you the door—something we’d rather not do.

Bottom-line: we’ve invited all of you into our house to have some beers. Don’t piss where you drink, and don’t piss in our house. Respect the site and other users. Have fun. This is BEER!

And please stop with the high-five Beer Mails … his removal from the site is not something we should be celebrating. And this will be the last time we explain our decision to remove a user from our site.

So c'mon ... we trying to do something good here, for beer and those who love it, and we're way too busy to deal with this kind of bull####.

Thanks for listening. Onward …

Todd

:bye: Time to go. I'm gonna do a chapter in my "How to brew like a Monk" book. Getting my all grain system soon and want to hit the ground running. I'll be keggin all my beer and serving on tap at my house, so growlers will be available.Thats right, the homebrew I sent to you Tip Top broke in transit. Wingnut, you drink the Old Procrastinator yet?
 Didnt get one
my ###. It was probably a ruination or old guardian bottle. Maybe a stone 6th anniversary (its a 2002). It has a "P" on the cap.
No ####?!?!?!!?I just went and looked....Old Guardian Bottle. Has a "P" on the cap :excited: You sly dog! I thought you sent an OG.....Ok, this ones going in my fridge right now to drink tomorrow.
:finger: I will send you and OG for that.
He never told me :shrug:When I got it I was all "Cool....but Ive had it and still have one...Oh well, good stuff anyhoo"I had no idea. Now Im STOKED to try it!!!!!!!!! Tomorrows the night. What style of beer is it??? Im guesing Barleywine.
I SO told you. If we had records of our pm's I'd show you. And there is no way I am navigating back in this unruly thread to find proof. Simply not worth it.HEY FATMAX....YOU GOT ONE TOO!Tip Top, I have more. If they like it I can easilly send you another one.
Yes I do. I remember opening the box and wondering why the hell you sent me a Ruination. The I saw the cap and remembered that it was a homebrew. It's currently sitting with my pile-o-stouts waiting for cooler weather.

Great. Now I need these IIPAs to finish the top 10 as of now:Goose IslandPliny the ElderWeyerbacher's Double Simcoe IPAI now wish I would have reviewed the Moylans Hopsickle.
It was the Weyerbachers. Its better than the Moylans, I have to go along with that call

Wow. Just... wow.I know the dude - hell, I know all of 'em after working a few BA fests, and enjoy having beers with both Todd and V. Todd and V both have enough intensity regarding beer for a dozen people. They both love it, both have opinions, sounds like things went boom in a big way. Too bad.

his online persona blows.sounds like they finally got tired of his nonsense and the problems that it created. he really did make reading some threads nearly impossible. the bitter contrarian shtick only goes so far.

I always thought Venom was a quality poster.

Tough call, but I agree. One beer that doesn't get a lot of pub that (I think) deserves to be on the list is Marin White Knuckle DIPA. Very solid beer. I don't know why I hadn't tried it before the weekend, but I picked one up on Saturday, then returned to Bevmo on Sunday and bought a case.
As I understand, the White Knuckle is almost the identical recipe as the Hopsickle, just brewed at Marin instead of Moylans

I could care less about my username at BA, but I would be concerned about losing all those reviews that I spent ungodly amounts of time doing.

I don't know. The last time I tried Hopsickle was on tap at Moylans in Novato on the way home from Russian River. It seemed harsh to me at the time. I didn't get the same feeling from White Knuckle. I could easily be wrong, however. I would try them side by side, but sometimes Hopsickle is hard for me to find around here. I haven't seen it in a couple of months.

I'm starting to think that I have the last supply of Hopsickle in the US. I might just be it all today and corner the market

Agreed. The only users I care about over there are the ones that post here. I couldn't tell you who the good and bad posters are, mainly because I rarely use their message board.

I actually deleted all of mine some time ago.
why is that?
The internet nerd factor is unusually high over there, and rather than being associated with being "one of them", I decided to focus my efforts more on calling them nerds on the message boards.ETA: NERDS!!!!

I used to be on their boards constantly. Finally got to the point of saturation and took a step back. Same thing happened with reviewing - just got tired of being a married male and having to type "head that doesn't last."

Yeah, "Nice thick head" is one that makes me cringe. I can't stand writing some of those reviews. Just want to post the rankings and be done with it.

You guys talk about the flaws of BA and RB a lot. I tend to agree with them. You also talk about a private MB for those of us who want to post in relative peace. Although, on that note, I like the occasional input from stray posters here at FBG. As for BA, I think I may have post one single MB post there. Maybe. I also think I have 4 reviews, which I would have taken the Under on if I hadn't seen the number last night. Let's just create our own forum then. A mini version of BA where you can just rate a beer if you want, no review. Or you can easily sort the review. Basically a kinder and more user-friendly version of BA that has some aspects of RB.

I think it starts with the forum and builds from there, much as FBG has done. The functionality of the BA forum sucks. Also the functionality of searching the reviews stinks. Overall, that's a killer site and the brothers know that. That is the obvious reason we go back --- the info there is top notch. But as Jaysus noted, it's for the Beer Nerd group. Some of us tend to hang out on the fringe and not associate with that group. For exmaple, I only use the Wants and Gots as a list for personal reference as to what I have downstairs and what I have heard about and want to check. I have had far too many people inquire about Fred-Wood, Beatification and now Westy.

I don't have an issue with getting BeerMails about it. But I'd like a more rounded experience there and that includes a better forum, better search functions for several areas, better review rules, and a few other extremely minor changes. Fact is that if this is all I can ##### about with the site, then they are doing well. We know that much though. I just want a place to go to say "I liked that one" or "Hated that" without getting blasted for not being enough of a Beer Nerd. not too much toask IMO. And I haven't even extensively used the site, and this stuff stands out to me. Anyway, an idea for us as a group to explore I suppose.

I plan to continue my quest for 100 (quality) beers in 100 days. My very first Stone IPA is scheduled for 8:10 tonight. After that, might finish a 750ml bottle of the Primitive Ale Pig Nun, and then who knows. I have plenty chilled to explore. Plus am picking up a case of Dreadnaught and some GI Imperial tomorrow. Could get dicey.....I'm getting "Stoned" tonight!

I have had far too many people inquire about Fred-Wood, Beatification and now Westy.I don't have an issue with getting BeerMails about it. Anyway, an idea for us as a group to explore I suppose.
thought that's pretty much what this thread was already?

You guys talk about the flaws of BA and RB a lot. I tend to agree with them. You also talk about a private MB for those of us who want to post in relative peace. Although, on that note, I like the occasional input from stray posters here at FBG. As for BA, I think I may have post one single MB post there. Maybe. I also think I have 4 reviews, which I would have taken the Under on if I hadn't seen the number last night. Let's just create our own forum then. A mini version of BA where you can just rate a beer if you want, no review. Or you can easily sort the review. Basically a kinder and more user-friendly version of BA that has some aspects of RB.I think it starts with the forum and builds from there, much as FBG has done. Going to be a good drinking night tonight. Ihave a feeling. :banned:
I plan to continue my quest for 100 (quality) beers in 100 days. My very first Stone IPA is scheduled for 8:10 tonight. After that, might finish a 750ml bottle of the Primitive Ale Pig Nun, and then who knows. I have plenty chilled to explore. Plus am picking up a case of Dreadnaught and some GI Imperial tomorrow. Could get dicey.....I'm getting "Stoned" tonight!
Hey, buddy. :bye:

Found out one of the holdups for St. B 60th Anniversary here in VA. Every new beer has to go through a label approval process with the ABC board. Apparently the distributor has it but can't release until it's approved. f'n government wackjobs. :hot:

That must be the same holdup here in NC. I will punch somebody if I don't get this beer.
