Well, I only got a box from Skylord today, so it's not me. Too bad the growler he sent me didn't make too. Figured that would be my drink for tomorrow night.
You had a broken growler?
that blows :(
You're telling me. I was counting on drinking that tomorrow night. Now I don't know what I will drink...

is it me or would growlers seem like they have the least chance of making it through shipping because of the large hollow frame of the container vs. the standard size bottle with a tighter frame. not that the glass is thicker but if you drop a growler from 6-8 ft. vs. a standard beer bottle, wouldnt you think that would have a higher breakage rate? maybe its the booze talkin..

They are usually sturdy bottles thought. I have only had one break and have sent at least 20.

Makes sense to me, and also has me a bit worried about upcoming growler shipments.

OK, on top of the Official Fullback Fro BIF Box Bomb that arrived today, my trade with Skylord arrived too.

Holy cow. Today is by far the best Beer Day of my life. Wow.

Thank you Skylord!

I could literally bathe in 90+ rated beer on BA. Several times a day, for several days. Now there's a thought...

The Emmett's growler from BIF2 arrived in perfect condition.

Victory Pale Ale - seriously tasty stuff. Hoppy throughout but never too much - great flavors going on here. Reminds me quite a bit of the pale ale at the Pump Station, but with a more "three dimensional" hoppiness. Citrusy rind bitterness, apricot/citrusy (orange/grapefruit - there's Amarillo in this I guarantee it) flavors... the hops are almost minty fresh. :D Just enough caramelly malt with hints of butteriness to balance. Great session brew. Review at BA to follow... thanks, TipTop!!!!
good to hear. Bought my first taste tonight. Saving it for tommorrow.

I don't think you are talking about the same beer.

Finally made it to the beer store. These things that I have never tried are now on my fridge:

St. Bernie 12

Old Rasputin

Oak Aged Yeti

Breckenridge Vanilla Porter

Dogfish Head Indian Brown

Along with these things that I have tried and enjoy:

DFH 90 Minute IPA

Lefthand Milk Stout

Rogue Chocolate Stout

Stone IPA
one of my all time favorites. Not a big fan of "flavored" beers, but this one blew my socks off the one time I got it. Local store never brings it in anymore. :sadbanana:

I got one coming from Fro.

Shiner Blonde - drinkable, but nothing special.

Christian Moerlein Select Lager - ok, but a little too bitter for my tastes.

Goose Island Summertime Ale - Awesome. What does "Kölsch" mean?

Kolsch is a pretty dry beer that is a little on the sweet side. Some hop bitterness, but not a lot. Not my favorite style, but (from my experience), they tend to be very drinkdable.

German Ale. Originally brewed in Koln.

For the record, I've NEVER met a beer that wasn't drinkable.

When I was in high school, beer was a commodity, and sometimes the good stuff (cold) wasn't available. I have been known to carry a 12 pack of Meister Brau in the trunk of my car...during the summer...for a week, and have drank those.

Summary:

5

Goose Island Summertime Ale

4

Goose Island Urban Wheat Ale

3

Great Lakes Holy Moses

2

Hoegarden White

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Shiner Blonde

Stella Artois

Christian Moerlein Select Lager

2

Christian Moerlein Hefeweizen

Is Koslch an ale? I know this is an ignorant question.
Just checked Goose Island site, it said German Pale Ale. Whatever that means.

Well, that means it's an ale. Most of the well regarded German styles are lagers.

Yea, I still don't know the difference.

Not ignorant at all. There's actually several German beer types that are considered ales. Alts are ales. I think hefe's are too.

Lagers/pilseners/germans/hefeweizens are all on the light side meaning good summer beers and are more or less the style of the more popular US beers on the market like bud, etc.. pale ale is probably closer to the light end of the spectrum but much closer to the middle than the others.

stouts & porters are on the darker side, guinness being your easy example here..typically kind of heavy for summer but i like them a lot so i dont give a damn.

Now that my nephews are gone, my son is consoled after attempting to take off his head on the corner of a dresser, and both my kids are in bed, I can enjoy the Dreadnaught that I think has reached optimum temp.

Oh and maybe I'll have some of these from this afterward.

So anyone find that dead FBG yet?

Tried a new Italian restaurant in town. Not bad. Had a La Rossa, a doppelbock from Moretti, that I'd never tried before actually. Suprisingly good, I thought.

Now, I'm drinking my last DFH 60 min. from my Florida trip a few months ago. Still have one Aprihop and a few 90 min. though.

Live Oak Big Bark

DFH 90 Minute

Lefthand Milkstout (which I'm partially wearing now)

As posted in the drunk thread, I'm feeling no pain in the hammock, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get up.

Creative Memories, that has got to be a box from me at one point. My wife is a rep.

Kolsch is brewed using an ale yeast, as is Altbier. Occasionally a "Sticke" or "secret" altbier is around - Uerige is the primary example imported - as well as a Doppelsticke. Kolsch is meant to be light and thirst-quenching, and originated in Koln (I hate umlauts) or, in US-ese, Cologne.

Let's just say my wife (who does a lot of scrpbooking) was super excited at seeing the package. Her comment after I told her what I assumed through Furley's prodding was: "WTH? Beer? In a Creative Memories box? That's just wrong!"Beer Count - all 12 oz:

Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter (the only one I have)

Goose Island Oktoberfest

Viking Big Swede Imperial Stout

Lake Louie Tommy's Porter

Central Waters Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout

Tyranena Rocky's Revenge Bourbon Barrel Aged Brown Ale

This is quite a haul. Thanks furley - you hit my favorite styles: combo ofmalty beverages and bourbon barrel aging. I'm going to enjoy these.

Sorry you couldn't stay awake long enough though. If Jamie had been about a half inch farther to the left, I'd still be in the emergency room getting him stitches; as it is, he's going to look great in the wedding photos with a 3-inch welt/gouge on the side of his head.
