I got called in. :( Good thing though is my wife will be out tonight so I'm in no rush to get home. The very nice beer bar near here has St. Bernardus on tap. Think I'll stop by. :banned:
I think that is a no brainer there.
Since I was on call, I wanted to go in and get a quick beer. Maybe 2.St. Bernardus on tap.Celebrator on tap.Storm King on cask. And a couple of samples of some things on tap I hadn't tried. ;) Schneider Aventinus Eisbock. Stone Ruination. Also had a glass of a Belgian that I had never had or heard of. Oud Lambic. Way tart. Very good. Low alcohol.
Impressive lineup! Where's this at?

Alright, now that I kicked my wife off the computer, report on (so far) malt night:

First up, Lake Louie Tommy's Porter courtesy of mr. furley. Sweet smell of vanilla on opening, moreso than most porters I've had. Good head, little to no lacing though. Warmed nicely but stayed sweet - strong overtones of carmel/vanilla in this one. Not a robust porter, but still a good base of meat to it. Finished well with a little extra chocolate bite to it. Very enjoyable

Next up, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, BA's highest rated of its style. Got one in a trade from Nucular George, and another in mr. furley's box. Definitely more of the style I'm used to, more of a coffee overtone to it. Great head, good lacing that stayed for a while. Definite body on this one, better as it warmed up - the coffee got a little stronger but not overpowering. Finished roasty with very slight chocolate background. I can see why this one is highly rated; very pleased to have another one on hand.

Currently sipping the Tyranena Rocky's Revenge - brown ale aged in bourbon barrels. Definitely could smell the vanilla coming off this one. Good head, excellent lacing and a very smooth taste so far. Thanks to mr. furley for this one as well. Will report after I finish this one off.

Last one for the evening will be an Old Curmudgeon courtesy of Nucular George. Interested in how this compares to some of the Hair of the Dog beers I get regularly, since they tend to be brewed in the "old style."

glad you're enjoying the beers
Very much so. Thanks again  The Rocky's Revenge finished a little strong on the bourbon for my taste, but I think that's due to it being a brown (lighter on the other tastes). Another good beer, and I think one that our friend Skylord would be interested in.I think the Old Curmudgeon needs a few more minutes to warm before I dive in.

Really enjoying this Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale. Lots of maple and vanilla smells. Little head, no lacing, but the flavor makes up for it. Complex, yet very smooth. Slight alcohol bite to this one, but hidden mostly by the vanilla flavoring.

NG, I think you had commented that it was close to Hair of the Dog Fred from the Wood. I can definitely see that, especially once the Fred-Wood ages a little. Glad I didn't have the Adam with this - totally different. Thanks for this one Nuke!

Capital Ale House linkOf course I was kidding about having never tried the samples. I just wanted to try them on tap. I came home and had a Stone IPA and went to bed. Wiped me out.

Curmudgeon is one of my favorite beers right now. And I did think it was close to the Fred-Wood. Super big fan of the Old Ale style. Also, you should have a couple Bell's Porters in the boxes. Those come highly recommended too. Maybe not up to Eddie Fitz level. But they don't suck.

2006 Stone Russian Imperial Stout

#####es!!!
Damned fine beer is right.I p.o.t.a.t.o.i.n.g. like this beer
 Think I'll have to pick one of these up again - it's been a while and I know they are disappearing fast around here.
Good luck with that. I haven't seen one around here in over a month.
I just picked up 5 bottles in Indiana on Tuesday.

How was the Mad Hatter? I liked it when I tried it, but thru a randall (or similar contraption) it must have been REALLY good

Just got done cleaning up after an impromptu cookout at the house here. Ended up with 8 adults, 2 kids 9 & 12, and 2 more +/-2yrs. Very fun, but very hectic when we had only planned on a few people total.

Had a weiss which the name escapes me (if it ain't Weihenstephaner, it's crap!). Had a FFFs P&J, and now finishing with a Curmudgeon.

I was going to open a bottle from the boxes I got on Friday, but wanted to save those, and to let them get some more time in the fridge for now. So that adventure will start during MNF tomorrow.

Thank you so very much again to Fro. And thank you again to Skylord. Friday was BY FAR my best beer day ever. Hopefully the box I dropped off today will be up to the task of the quality the Fro sent me.

Just got back from Vegas. Tried a few different brews. Had a Duvel's, there. I liked it. Found this at THE lounge at THE hotel in Mandalay Bay. Was very happy, had three. Got into a few brews at the Freakin Frog(Skylord  ) Had a beer that i couldn't pronounce that was pretty good and then had a few SN Bigfoot's.  Holy ####. That was first barley wine, and damn man it was ####ing abrasive. Tried a few other ones that i don't remember the names to. Had an Arrogant ******* at Bally's :banned: .

Other than that had a lot of SNPA and Newcastle at the tables.

Heckmann, what did you think of the Furious?

Well, it was somewhat late in the day, so the taste buds and short-term memory were both severely attenuated, but I think it was pretty good. Lots of bitterness, but enough malt to back it up. Surly - great name for a brewery! I was hoping the servers would be like "What the #### do you want?" :D I didn't run across anything that I flat didn't like; a few were *meh*, but nothing really objectionable. One big disappointment - Jolly Pumpkin apparently didn't show up. Fortunately I can find their beer in bottles around home.

pretty good Gator. not great. very solid. i'd drink it again. there weren't any overpowering flavors in it.... which was a good thing for a change. been drinking so many BIG beers lately that it was nice to have a normal beer.

yes please :bye:
:hot:
When have I turned down a trade? Now, what can you get that I can't is the question....
uhh.. yeah.. not much.i've got some Lake Louie and Central Waters stashed away in the basement. not sure the availability of those to you.
Grabbed some in Madison last weekend. Any good brewpubs? Heard that Titletown isn't the same now that the brewer left.

Drinking my first Beatification.

NG was dead-on with his remarks on this beer. I gave my buddy in IL one of my six for all of the hassles he had with FedEx getting the box delivered. I'm seriously tempted to drive back up there, kick his ###, and bring that one back.

A lot of people may not like this beer. It's tart, bordering on sour; it's funky, bordering on stinky. But for those of us who love those qualities, it's incredible.

If anyone knows of a single woman who likes this beer, please let me know. I'll start ring shopping.

 With that username, I'm going to need some serious verification. Besides, doesn't "mrs" kind of imply "not single"?
