What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

The Demo is only so-so in comparison to most of their white label beers. You'd be much better off switching to the Imperial IPA or even the Pere Jacques (if you can get that right now). The Demo is just too unbalanced to follow such a strong beer like the Bourbon County. Try that next time, and report back. When you get done ####### your sheep anyway........
Grazie ..This is the kind of shepherding I'm looking for. What means unbalanced, Precious?Outlet nearby doesn't carry the Imperial, only the aforementioned reserves; however, the main center across town definitely has it.
As I recall, the Demo was somewhat bitter and the alcohol came through moreso than the others. The Imperial is bitter to be sure, but in a hoppy sense and with the floral/citrus to go with that and a good malt balance too. One of the best Double IPA's you're going to find anywhere, including the Three Floyds Dreadnaught (don't tell Skylord I said that....). The strong but rounded flavor of the Imperial would be a better combo for the super strong but interesting taste of the Bourbon County. The Demo is just too one dimensional to be worth following up with. Plus I am not a fan of the Demo by itself anyway. I generally consider it to be the only weak link in the GI white label beer line.

I can't wait to try the double dry hopped 10th @ Stone on the 24th. And you guys have no effing idea what you are talking about.
I'd try the 10th again, but I poured all of the rest out after I had that first one. That #### sucks. :P For the record, I do have an effing idea of what I'm talking about. I just liked their normal stuff better than the 10th. And for all the hype it received, it felt lacking somehow. I can kill as much of the regular IPA as I can find. I love the AB "group". The 10th just seemed over the top, and that they went too far with it. But the super duper dry hopped version would be well worth trying. You are a lucky man, my friend.
I don't think there is a more divisive beer on this board :boxing:
I liked it a lot. If I had one complaint, it would be that it's a little "hot" in the alcohol department, but the hop profile is outstanding. It's the only DIPA that I know of that has that sweet tangerine bite. I wish I would have bought three cases instead of two. I only have six left and they're all reserved. (MIC and Trout)

Maybe that's my issue. I don't like a strong alcohol taste in beers.

Page 2? People, please keep up. It's a Friday. So it's the official start of the weekend in some part of the world. And in Japan, it's already Saturday officially (albeit very very early).

Oddly, I do. I loved the Founders Curmudgeon. Actually still have a lot more of that one. But that one is far more complex than the Stone 10th. Lots of other things going on, and I think the caramel, malt, etc. falvors are what drew me in that style. But still a good point, as the alcohol % and even the taste of Old Ales tends to be pretty strong. I dunno why I like it, I just drink it.

I've got a space ready for them as soon as you're able to ship them, GB.:twiddlesthumbs:

Would have posted this last night, but...

Walk over to Pump Station yesterday around 2, after the "no alcohol, no fun, ####ty food" Christmas party in my office. See Tim the bartender finishing off a pour of something dark from the beer engine. I ask him what it was. He said "It's a few year old cask of what we think is the braggot that we found lying around in the back..." SOLD!! Don't know if it was the braggot or not, but it was absolutely HUGE abv (gotta be north of 12) and really complex as hell. Followed that up with a couple of winter warmers by the fire while talking with coworkers about office stuff like "what was the deal with the food this year?"...

then headed over to Mahar's to meet a few friends there. Had a pint of cask Mata Hari from England (hoppy session brew), a Captain Lawrence Double IPA (I'll stack that one up against any I've had - just killer hoppiness) and this year's Anchor Our Special Christmas, which was one of the better versions I've tried - they didn't use a juniper bush as a beer paddle. Decided to wait a while before driving, then went home and immediately went *boom* on the couch.

Syracuse tonight. Oh hell yeah!!!

Mothers in law might be making a comeback, as far as the beer world is concerned.

For my birthday last month, mine got me a $100 gift card to the Motherland (Wal-Mart sized liquor store), and my wife called me a little while ago to say that the Christmas present would definitely top that.

This is what I didn't like about last year's verson. Tasted like I was eating a pine tree, and not in the good hoppy way.

Last night I had myself a St Bernardus Prior 8. It was a solid beer that I enjoyed but it didn't stand up for me against the Abbot 12 or Rochefort 8.

BTW, the Jolly Pumpkin beers I bought were the La Roja and the Oro de Calabaza.

Did you get the Jolly Pumpkin beers at Ledgers? How was that store anyway? I've read tons about it, but haven't been. It's been awhile since I've been through Oakland/Berkeley.

You are indeed the Beer God. Or a Beer God. I still have to decide whether to worship at your alter or TT's. I'm leaning toward TT because he's dropped off a growler for me (TH Masala Mama, for the record). Care to bride me, bakes, so as to procure my blind worship of your Beer God-fullness?

That's obviously a Freudian slip. I secretly desire you. There I said it. And just so you know, I'm a terrific "lay".

Alaskan Winter ale.
Alaskan Brewing brought that to a brewfest I was at in September. I was 3/4 plowed by the time I had it, but I don't remember enjoying it a whole lot. Very malty, IIRC.
I really liked this year's winter. This is not a taste for everyone. The Juniper tips make for a very unique flavor that I can see how some may not prefer. I, on the other hand love it. When I have my first I can not think of another beer that I would want after it for that session.

Avoid Sacramento Brewing Company like the plague. Nothing they brew is worth drinking. Beermann's is interesting. Their Hefe sucks, and I didn't really like the honey ale. That said, Rip Roarin' Red I thought was one of the better amber/red ales I've had in awhile. They also have their Bourbon Barrel Barleywine which is excellent - though a bit pricey at $15.00 for a liter bottle and only bottled for about a month in the winter.

This year they're supposed to come out with a Bourbon Barrel Stout, but I haven't seen it yet.
Skylord. Pay attention here.
Max - very interested

Pretty sure we can't get the Alaskan here. Widmer's not sure about either. Anchor and SN are both readily available at Binny's or Sam's though. Sam's also has a few solid Winter beers. When I get home, urbanhack, I'll forward the Winter beer "conversation" I had with the woman who orders the beer at the Highland Park Sam's. Won't be until 4 or so though, so maybe to late. TT is also a great resource for this question, along with Fro (of course).

Picked up four-packs of GI Imperial IPA and Matilda over the lunch hour, but the following post leaves me with a question for the group ...

We better make sure we have a DIPA fan before giving him advise on such a good brew. Not sure where he is at in his brew tasting. I know for me when I started, I wanted to start off with something a little less outstanding (though I have yet to have the GI IIPA). You can only go up, with a few downs. If he isn't down with IIPAs he should start elsewhere IMO, and once he gets the taste try the good stuff.
This will be DIPA number one for me, so I don't know if I'm a fan yet or not. As I mentioned before, I LOVE the GI regular IPA but haven't many others. Is there a risk that I'll get turned off by this if I jump right in, or is this some crazy pledge ritual that's only going to lead up to trading paddle swats?Do I sit on this group for a bit and work my taste buds up, or should I down several Bourbon Stouts first and go charging into the four-pack like a Gladiator on the night before battle? So many questions, only two hours until the first "PSSSFFT" of the evening.Shipping all of my DIPAs to Gator is not applicable in this instance, btw.

My father drinks Labatt's but still liked the Goose Island Imperial IPA when I had him try it. It is a very nicely balanced beer.
