What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (5 Viewers)

I'm about to open a Westmalle Dubbel.
are dubbels a little bit maltier than tripels? i remember having one a while back that tasted like a friggint teriyaki beer. would like to give the style another shot.
dubbels often do taste maltier and have more mouthfeel than tripels while tripels tend to have a higher alcohol content and a more complex flavor from the addition of various adjuncts (spices, herbs, etc). dubbels tend to be darker in color while tripels are usually golden.westmalle tripel is a very highly regarded example of that style, but i tend to prefer the dubbel myself.

Allagash Dubbel ReserveEG> :banned:
it's hard knowin' how widely distributed allagash is. it's pretty much the taste of maine when it comes to beer but i have a feeling everyone can get it making it all the less special.that said, i haven't tried the double yet. other than curieux this is the last allagash i havent tasted aside from their anniversary line.
The local bevmo has ONE style. Dunno whay they wold only get of these, but they did and it's not the one im loving right now. :banned:
let me guess, the tripel?

I would have easily been :ptts: after a night like that.

Just killed a growler of some homebrewed pale ale. Not too great, but for my first try at homebrewing, not too shabby. Gonna try another one, and then try an IPA. Probably the only reason this is remotely drinkable is the fact that I made it myself, but oh well, I am feeling good.
 My first batch is bubbling like crazy this morning.

Yesterday was...

Celebration

90 Minute

TB Heavy Handed x4

Boulder Never Summer

Then to Emmitt's Ale House for a couple pints of Victory Pale Ale.

That freaking game cost me a very tidy profit. I have a serious beer question. I am not a bonafide beer snob, especially compared to you guys. But what's the deal with drinking all these different beers in a sitting? Do you ahve a snack or someting to clear the palette? Whenever I changed beers, it seems to take half of the new beer to wash away the taste of the previous beer before I can enjoy the new flavor. Am I just weird or ignorant on this?edit because of jack daniels

Merry Christmas you bunch of drunks - glad to be in the drunk tank with you. :ptts:

Started off with a growler of Wailing Wench. She's gone. Currently working on a Carolina Winter Porter. Gonna follow that up with a one year old cellared St. Feuillen (or however the hell you spell it) Cuvee de Noel and, if verticality is maintained, a two year old cellared Fantome Hiver. Otherwise that's gonna wait until tomorrow to give me a break from the growler of Middle Ages Kilt Tilter.

All the while A Christmas Story in the background. ;)

Sorry about the game. I am as big a Broncos fan as a Gator basher. So take that in stride. As for switching styles in drinking, for me it's pretty much about trying different things. And some styles actually complement other style quite well. Having something small between beers is fine too. The usual strategy is to start with a lighter beer and work your way to the heavier beer if they are all higher quality. Also work from highest rated down to lowest, or highest quality to lower. Whatever. The point is to start out drinking Dreadnaught and end up drinking PBR. If that's how you are so inclined to drink that particular night. TT is probably best able to answer this question. He is king of the "full menu" when it comes to this topic. And you don't need to be a bonafide beer snob to join in here. You just have to like beer. We don't even make fun of the guys drinking Labatt's Blue. And that one is Canadienne AND a lager. So we're cool with whatever contribution you have to make.

I usually will munch on something between beers unless they are of identical styles and I want to directly compare the two.

We just had a Spec's open in Austin... I hear good things. I'm going to ask Bentley to make me a list. I miss Trader Joes.

Michelob Ultra. Since I'm spending Christmas by myself, I figured I'd grab a 12 pack. :ptts:
i'm sure there are plenty of places where you can volunteer on xmas day and spend some time with those in the community.
Maybe...who is that in your pic? Nice.... [south park cops]
some girl that's been featured on break.com and has myspace. her last name is stratton or something like that.

Merry Christmas fools!!!

Took the day off, but have some nice brews chilling for me for tomorrow.

Have a swell christmas

This cellared St. Feuillien Noel... niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! Earthy, toffee, Belgian yeast esters, and lots of cherries in the background in the finish. Get three, drink one now, crack the others on Christmas the next two years. Ages beautifully. :goodposting:

Merry Christmas :banned:

Won't be able to drink it today, but thanks to the recommendations here I've got a Belhaven Wee Heavy sitting in the fridge for tomorrow.

Merry Christmas all,

I almost completely missed the Stone Winter Storm. I blew a tire on my Crossfire just north of Camp Pendleton (in the middle of nowhere) and it took a tow truck 2 hours to get to me. I barely got a rental car in time before EVERYONE closed down for the Christmas holiday. In doing so, I missed going to Port and Alpine :lmao: . My tire won't be fixed until atleast Tuesday, so I need to drive back down to San Diego tomorrow or the following day.

On the bright side, I might be able to hit Port and Alpine then.

Stone World Bistro is amazing, the interior and exterior grounds are gorgeous. Below are the beers I sampled on tap, most of which I reviewed.

Stone 02.02.02

Stone 03.03.03

Stone 04.04.04

Stone 3rd Anniversary

Stone 4th Anniversary

Stone 7th Anniversary

Stone 8th Anniversary

Stone Double Dry Hopped IPA

Stone Double Dry Hopped Ruination

Stone Double Dry Hopped Levitation

Stone Double Dry Hopped 10th Anniversary

Stone 2004 Old Guardian

Stone 2003 Double *******

Stone Sawyers Triple

Stone Smoked Porter

Stone Brandy Barrel-Aged Smoked Porter

Stone Stonewall

Alpine Captian Stout

Craftsman Holiday Brew

Port Good Grief Brown Ale

Russian River IPA

:goodposting: Glad you still made it. That lineup was incredible. Maybe I need to spend a Christmas in San Diego next year.

Had the Lenny's last night at a Xmas party with a friend. Not your normal DIPA for sure with the rye malts adding a little "extra". The taste changes both from start to finish with each drink, as well as when it warms a little. Just a little extra bitter at the end.The GI Imperial x2 should be interesting. The 2005 you got was from my cellar, so it should be fine. There is a notable difference between the two years, part of which is the aging of course. I would compare it to the Stone 10th, but that beer sucked. :goodposting:

Pipers Pale Ale from BOTM2. It's like this thing hits air and explodes into a huge white cloud. After several pour and waits I now have a half glass of beer.
