Never seen it before. I was at the bar located literally next door to the brewery and thought it sounded interesting, so I ordered it. Frankly, I can't remember seeing any of their products in the store, but their IPA and Paint the Town Red are in most bars in the area. Just checked their website and it's not listed there, so I imagine it is limited production

If you are really interested in trying the stuff I could swing by the brewery and see if they had any they were willing to part with.... I'm only 10 minutes away, but I'm pretty sure they don't sell from the brewery since it is a nondescript little space in a stripmall.

Just got back from the CBC event. Talked to Garrett Oliver, the guys from DFH (who brought year old 120 minute), Greg from Stone, and others. Not sure what all I drank, but it certainly did the job.

From Troegs? Nugget Nectar is their "hopped" up version of the Hopback. It's friggin outstanding, although this years version didn't seem to be quite as good as last years. It's a seasonal release (winter), so it might be all sold out by now. Their oatmeal stout (another winter release) is really good. Their pale ale is really good. Their wheat beer (dream weaver) is good.
 
Im takin some Bells Oberon with me to the Keys, since the most exotic beer there will probably be Yuengling and Land Shark Lager.

 
We spent the weekend in Dublin, and we went on the Guinness tour. I'd swear the Guinness tastes better than normal in the pubs in Dublin, and even better than that at the Guinness brewery, go figure.

We also went on the Jameson brewery tour and got to sample a few whiskeys. I'd suggest both tours to anyone going to Dublin..

this is true.could just be the atmosphere. but it does taste better there.

not yetgonna wait on it for a while. apparently a lot of people are #####ing about "sludge" in the bottles. the brewer (Floydicus on BA) said that by around Thanksgiving all the sludge will have disappeared. :D
 
Just realized that the "beautiful women" thread has <4000 posts but a quarter million views compared to this one with 25000 posts and 160k views.

Sludge? How much is there? If it's yeast it will crystalize finally, but it will still be there. If it ain't yeast then what the hell is it?
 
I just don't see how any beer is worth all they hype of dark lord.

I mean dreadnaught was great and all, but when you get right down to it Avery's Majaraja is right there as well as any mega hopped beer like dfh120 at that point it's just whether you like your hops piney, resiney, floral, citrus, or just hard hitting.

I'm assuming any dark maltbomb + requisite hop level RIS of any consequence can compete with this.

There's just so many knobs you can turn on a beer. Alpha Acids have a saturation point in water and yeast has a ABV% where it just plain dies. Once you get to a certain level it just doesn't deserve shock and awe.

This is why at long last I'm starting to branch out to Belgians to see what they've got in their bag.

I can only guess since I haven't had it. I assume a very good brew by itself, add in that they name a day after it and only release it once a year and you get hype. Is it warrented? Dunno....<--hint :cry:

I don't get the hype. I've never tasted it (yet). I went this year because a bunch if idork beer nerds happened to be in da house and it's less than an hour away from my house.

No, it's certainly a cool event. Lots of beers to swap and stuff, but to me this seems more about the event than the beer.
 
It's my first post in this thread and tonight I will be partaking of some Rogue Chocolate Stout to start off the evening. Probably switch to some Left Hand Milk Stout after my Rogue.

I am drinking a Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale "brewed at Yorkshire's oldest brewery - est. 1758"...and it sort of tastes like my bottle may have been the first one they ever produced! :jawdrop:

Someone gave it to me to try. Not sure if I can finish the bottle...

Cracked open a 2006 that I bought gray-market last year (since I now have some 07's to lay down).My thoughts: :shock: ;) :D :confused: The 2007s I won't touch for a while. Just wanted to know if it justified the hype and the full day of standing around. IMO, yes.

musta been a good beer fest...

had a beer or 2 while driving to and from work. now I'm into a bottle of St. Bernardus' 60th. :goodposting:
