I bounce back and forth. Day to day, thread to thread, post to post.

Why so serious?

Probably about 10% of the time my posts are schtick, but another 40% are thought to be schtick when it's just my quirkiness. This may or may not be schtick. I'm 100% about fun though.

I like to make fun of stuff, or make jokes, or crack wise.

I don't see it as schtick or trolling, though.

I'm dead serious about criticizing Leviathan and defending liberty.

And voting on hot chicks.

And talking about beer.

And discussing TV shows (the handful I watch).

And talking about the NBA.

And a few other topics.

I think there is a strange fascination or preoccupation among some here about fishing, trolling and schtick.

I appreciate schtick - always get a kick out of SWC and find OPM hysterical at times. Have to admit though - I don't get the trolling and fishing part. Comes across as a form of bullying which always makes me want to fight back.

This is not schtick, trolling or fishing: what makes trolling and fishing a form of bullying?

If I can get you to chase your tail for a while I'm gonna try. If this place weren't entertaining to me I wouldn't be here.

If you are feeling bullied on a message board, take a break.

I was tempted to provide a really unkind answer to your question, but out of respect for the delicate sensibilities of our simian friend I will refrain.

Having spent some time on some other places on the web where there is some really mean-spirited stuff said routinely, I think if one finds the kind of trolling that goes on here "a form of bullying", one would be best served by disconnecting from the internet totally. And probably wrapping one's self in bubble wrap, both metaphorically and literally.

Probably best to speak in specific examples as there are many different definitions out there. When someone intentionally tries to irritate someone just to get a rise out of them, yeah, that sucks in my opinion and is a form of bullying. What motivates a bully is to exert power or control over another person for no particular reason, other than that they seem to get off on it. Trolling is similar to this, only it's worse because you can hide behind the keyboard.I admit I'm probably old fashioned on this, but that's the world I came from. I'm actually getting better with it. I'm able to ignore trolls a lot better than I used to be.

Just curious - not fishing either - how old you guys are? I made a post in the Schilling topic about the limited tolerance he and I have on trolling, and how a lot of it relates to generational differences and how we were raised. I'm not sure it's fair to say Curt and I are overly sensitive, and we're certainly not whimpy - I can guarantee you that. Just different. The younger generation has grown up being exposed to ####ty behaviors and lousy comments being directed at them daily. When I was growing up you never heard stuff like that, and when you did, it was usually fighting time. Such a different world today.

I am not sure what the Schilling thread has to do with this. The comments about his daughter were so far beyond the pale that I can't even comprehend why you would bring them up. I was repulsed by those comments. As was virtually everybody who posted in that thread.

Curt Schilling is not a crybaby about people pitching him ####. He was in major league clubhouse, dugouts and bullpens for a long time. I seriously doubt he would define "bullying" in any way similar to what you are saying here. So I don't know why you are comparing yourself to him. If anything, he is on the opposite end of the spectrum from you.

To answer your age question, I am 45, but I don't take myself or the Internets as seriously as you do.

I brought up the Schilling because that's where I posted my comments about generational differences in attitudes and responses to trolling. Clearly what went on in his case was far beyond the pale of the traditional type of trolling we are discussing here. Both suck though.

Lease a sense of humor and see if the dealer with throw in some thicker skin. HTH

I liken most trolling to someone wearing dirty tighty whiteys on the outside of his clothing and thinking it is the people who react that are the ones who look like an idiot.

I am sarcastic but people don't always recognize it. Usually my posts say what I mean though. Now if the whole thread is shticky I'll play along but I never really troll anyone.
