Ok, so of all the 'meltdown' teams, what Coaches are left?

Tampa Bay

Dallas

Denver

NYJets

Cleveland

I took Tampa - because they only had to beat the Raiders at home yesterday
I kind of figured the media whores in Dallas and the drama queens in New York would dominate this poll, but to me it has to be the 9-3 Bucs stout run defense suffering a complete meltdown against weak competition.
Agree. Took Tampa with the same rationale.Jets were overrated. Plus they were in a 3 way race. Denver had a weak D and was only in the driver's seat due to the blown Hoculi call. Dallas' troubles began much earlier in the season so it was less of a surprise. Tampa couldn't beat the Raiders and the D disappeared down the stretch. Very out of character. Gruden's firing says it all.Great question!PS. I hope the guy suggestion NE had a meltdown is joking.

How about Buffalo starting off 5-1 and leading the AFC East? How can you start off 5-1 and then end up 7-9?
Look who the 5 wins were against? 1) Seatlle with 8 WR injuries2) Jax with 8 OL injuries3) St Louis before their coach got canned4) Oakland before their coach got canned5) San Diego who had a bunch of injuries and was looking ahead to the London game. They should still be part of the poll.

I get Dallas' collapse as being noteworthy, but how is it worse than Denver? Dallas lost on the road to a division rival with a 6th seed on the line. Denver lost on the road to a division rival with a division crown and 4 seed on the line. Meanwhile Denver led the division for SIXTEEN WEEKS, the first team in league history to lead from start to finish only to miss the playoffs in the final week. Dallas was considered a wild card contender by most to enter the season [Giants being the favorite], and lost their star QB for awhile, Cutler was healthy all year. Last but not least, Dallas finished 9-7, which is usually good enough for the playoffs, while Denver fell to 8-8.
Denver was winning with smoke and mirrors all season. They had the SD game literally given to them by the officials, and they somehow managed to rack up a lead in the division despite having what everyone recognized at the time as a godawful defense coupled with inexplicably bad results by their closest division rival. Well, their defensive ineptitude finally caught up with them, San Diego got things back on track, and the better team won the division. Nothing remarkable about that at all IMO.
Agreeded. As a huge Denver fan, I never really could beleive they were going to make the playoffs.Dallas on the other hand, was the front runner in the NFC this year in the pre-season. When Romo came back they were supposed to march back into the playoffs, and they failed; badly.

Denver and its not close...

No team in NFL history has blown a 3 game lead in the division with three games left to play... Till the Broncos!!

Dallas melted, but they were off and on all year with injuries and such...

Well, i guess it depends on where you start the meltdown... if you go from preseason predictions to end of season results, Dalls wins... but if you go midseason meltdown from really good to really bad... Denver wins hands down.

:excited:

I tend to agree with you. I think most of the people voting Dallas are taking pre-season expectations into account, when in fact, we had a far better idea of what kind of team they were come mid-season - which is to say, they weren't who thought they were.Teams collapse down the stretch every season, it happens, and what every team on this list did, except for Denver, is not unusual. Unexpected? Yes, But hardly unusual. All Denver did, on the other hand, was to make history. No team had ever blown a 3 game lead with 3 games to go AND no team had ever led their division from week 1 only to lose it in week 17.Easy choice if you ask me.
