What's Been The Best Album This Decade - Since 2007 (Optional?) (1 Viewer)

Sure. Let's do it. You want to run it? I'm lousy at logistics, NV. You're better at this.
I'd do it if 15-20 (or more) people want to participate in sending in lists and following the countdown thread whenever I do it. It takes a fair bit of work and I need confirmation and ego stroking to make sure it's worthwhile ;)

Easily the best threads of the year, must read IMO.

Sounds too simple.  Where do the dice come in?

A few that (I think) were missed:

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

God Help the Girl - God Help the Girl (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

Jamie T - Panic Prevention

Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther

of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

Waxahatchee - Cerulean Salt

The xx - The xx

Close call for me between these:

Radiohead - In Rainbows
Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing
Devin Townsend - Addicted
Neal Morse Band - The Similitude of a Dream

Jason Isbell - Southeastern
I think in a "best artists 07-17" poll, Isbell would be right near the top but none of his albums jump above the other for me, they're all just really great.

I feel the same way about The New Pornographers. I might not put any of their albums up as "the best" but they might have the best overall catalog covering these 10 years.

I understand what you're saying, but to me Southeastern is noticeably better than Something More Than Free and especially better than The Nashville Sound. Just my opinion. Southeastern is just a masterpiece.

Agree on NPs. I feel this way about Woods and Real Estate too.

We’re just throwing out honorable mentions now so here’s a few of mine:

Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream

Royal Headache’s first album

Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book

If you like jazz, Kamasi Washington's The Epic and Vijay Iver Trio's Accelerando are up there for albums of the decade

I hated this...until I listened to it. I loved Hidden World, hated Common Chemistry, and was determined to not like this. My friend changed my mind. Great album.
Btw, I wish I would have listened to you and queued up Hidden World immediately. It’s as good as their other ####. Not sure why I never gave it a try. I think I just forgot tCoCL wasn’t their first. This is such a versatile band but I doubt most people make it past Pink Eyes’ voice.

Crusades is such a great opener off of that album that I'm often stunned by it being a sort of debut track off a debut LP.

Since I’ll be seeing it played live later this summer for the 10th anniversary

The Gaslight Anthem - The ‘59 Sound
The Ringer article last week inspired a re-listen.  The record still holds up well.  The Gaslight Anthem was never my favorite band but I appreciate the greatness on this album.

For better or worse, it was their career-defining work.  If Fallon is still playing shows 20 years from now, the opening bars of  "The '59 Sound" will bring the loudest cheer of the night.

I went thru this evening and made a playlist of most of the albums mentioned in this thread. Where only band names were mentioned, no album was added. There were a few others I couldn't find because I was unaware of the artist/title combo or I just couldn't find it.

Anyways, I made it for myself so I could.go back and listen to many of these artists I've heard of but never really listened to. (There are so many, I fell out of music a long long time ago.)

I made the list collaborative so feel free to add to it.

FBG FFA Ten Years Gone (1,190 songs)

Enjoy. Thanks to all for the recommendations.

What a gift! Thank you so much, @cap'n grunge!

Great work.

I have an old Skelethon concert poster. Makes me feel good when people ask "who is that", I play it and get them hooked.
I seriously just ordered one two days ago and I am framing it. I absolutely love that album.

:hifive:

eta* Came from Rhymesayers. Two bucks for the poster, twelve-forty shipping. Hwarf.

That Ringer article was a good read.
