Before I disowned my BIL, he would light off $400 worth of fireworks. Now I just watch the neighbors' out my back window... I voted no.

I have attended several to many parties in the past where others were setting off fireworks. When I was a kid, we'd drive to Jersey (I think it was Jersey?) to get some every once in awhile. However, in thinking back on myself, I haven't individually sought out and set off fireworks I think and most years in the last ten years I/my immediately family don't so I voted no.

The older I get, the less I like them. At my old neighborhood (where my family and I lived for about 3 summers) we would attend a block party where the host husband/dad would set off 100s of dollars of fireworks. My kids liked them so whatever. I then found out he was sending a collective bill out to the attendees to share the costs (along with the food costs) so had we attended again I'm not sure how I would have handled.

I voted yes, though I’m not sure what I’m lighting would be considered a firework. These things sit on the driveway and shoot little sparkles out of them for 3-5 seconds. Nothing more than 20 feet off the ground. Are these “fireworks”?

I voted no. I have never understood the fascination with home fire works. Every place I have been they are blah. Watching a good professional fireworks show is impressive but again it really isn't something that I look forward to or seek out. I could take them or leave them.

Back in the early 2000s, I used to do a cul-de-sac block party every 4th where I'd get good fireworks from out of state- mostly big mortars - to the tune of around $800-$1000 worth, several neighbors would pitch in and we'd have the street blocked off, with lawn chairs with coolers and all that and I'd light them off from the middle of the street. The fireworks show would always last at least an hour and there would always be at least one that didn't fire correctly and would explode at ground level, sending shrapnel and hot embers in all directions, bouncing off cars, garage doors, and usually narrowly missing a neighbor or their kid. Thankfully, no one ever got injured. Cleanup the next day was always nuts. Pieces of fireworks everywhere. From roofs to yards to pools to the street...it looked like a war zone. Good times.

I don't go out of my way but do when I can. Last year we were on a private beach in Gulf Shores, and I did take advantage of Alabama's liberal fireworks laws and went nuts. Safely, of course :)

Voted yes since I do shoot them off when I can.

We used to throw a party, inviting a bunch of family. We'd pitch in a hundred dollars or so each and go down to Phantom fireworks.
With their buy 1 get 1, sometimes get 2 free, we'd have a hell of a lot and the neighborhood would love the display.

Heading to a small party tonight. We bought some small stuff but a few friends are what I’d call intelligent red neck. (BAMA!) They go big. It’s fun but I wouldn’t do it if it was just us.

I used to shoot off a couple hundred dollars worth, but we have moved to a heavily wooded area, and a national forest borders our property, so it’s not worth the risk.

I usually spend a couple hundred on fireworks each year. Last couple years I've let the nephews light them off and just sit back and watch. We always have a family get together with beer, BBQ, and homemade ice cream. Have done that for as long as I can remember.

woo hoo!! a wonderful american and neighbor started setting some off this morning a little after midnight. (i started work today around 6a). Luckily, the dog did not react, but it woke us from our blissful slumber.

We have like 6 families in our hood throw in and blow stuff up. This year we did it on sat in our cul-de-sac. We had like 1500 bucks worth. It was a good show. We never actually do it on the fourth usually the night before.

After witnessing in person what a night of fireworks does to my sister's dog, I'm very anti-fireworks and am glad they are illegal where I live. Not that this stops people from firing some off though. Thankful my own animals arent bothered by it.

A park nearby that I often run to had the pavilion completely burned down thanks to some wonderful folks setting off fireworks. Yay.

Wow, completely shocked by the results of this poll. I figured it'd be reversed.

I am not a big fan of them, but find myself buying 40-50 bucks worth every July 3rd ish. I do have two kids (12 and 10) that seem to like them. Taught the 10-year-old boy how to use the safety lighter this year so he lit a bunch of them this time around. And the 12-year-old girl really didn't care much, she just wanted to socialize with the girls down the street while their parents fired off mortars.

We have people on our street that spend hundreds if not more on them. Illegal ones included.

At some point my kids won't care anymore and will likely just go to friends' houses to watch, which means I can stay in and watch TV on the 4th. I'll still probably go to BBQs / pool parties / what-not during the afternoon, but fireworks? Meh.

When I was 17 I used to work at a fireworks tent. Owner and I got hammered and he decided that if we sell them, we need to know what they do. I don't recall the exact how, but one of the big boys ended up shooting into the tent. Luckily the whole thing didn't go up in flames. Good times at the time, looking back...hmmm. Different times. First day every new applicant was give a post hole digger with no gloves and had to dig holes for the billboard signs in a Missouri drought. If you showed up for work the next day you were hired.

Illegal fireworks - never
Legal - yes
(anything that shoots up in the air and explodes as well as firecrackers and roman candles are illegal in my state).
