Back in the early 2000s, I used to do a cul-de-sac block party every 4th where I'd get good fireworks from out of state- mostly big mortars - to the tune of around $800-$1000 worth, several neighbors would pitch in and we'd have the street blocked off, with lawn chairs with coolers and all that and I'd light them off from the middle of the street. The fireworks show would always last at least an hour and there would always be at least one that didn't fire correctly and would explode at ground level, sending shrapnel and hot embers in all directions, bouncing off cars, garage doors, and usually narrowly missing a neighbor or their kid. Thankfully, no one ever got injured. Cleanup the next day was always nuts. Pieces of fireworks everywhere. From roofs to yards to pools to the street...it looked like a war zone. Good times.
