No. Maybe once a week. I wait until I'm feeling good about myself, then I reset my depression after getting on the scale to make sure I fully know that happiness is just a human construct, an abstract idea with no equivalent in actual human experience.

So then yes?

Haven't in a few years and since getting out of shape. Too depressing.

Used to daily when I was in shape.

Voted no.

We don’t own a scale but I’ll weigh myself at the gym 3-5x monthly and do a body scan at the beginning of each month.

Dec 1st was not pleasant. 🎅

You do DEXAs monthly? Who provides that service, and how much does it cost?

I rarely weigh myself, except when traveling, in concert with my maximally stuffed luggage.

As an aside, regular weigh-ins have been shown to promote dietary success.

May I present to you the exception to that rule...

I think you need an unobstructed view of the numbers on the scale.

I’m just about every day — I’m relatively thin, but bad genes when it comes to cholesterol and if I put on just a few pounds, it starts to show up in the numbers, even with the Rosuvustatin. (And I was not thinking when I scheduled my six month check-in on my cholesterol numbers for the week after Thanksgiving.)

In the 00s I lost 60 pounds without weighing myself. This was between dr visits and remains the only time I'm weighed. During a couple years of rollercoaster losses and gains, I weighed myself daily. It went from a source of frustration and sometimes confusion to a source of anxiety. Some online fitness guru advised throwing away the scale and just focus on health. I did. I don't think it helped me lose weight. Calorie restriction did. There must be over 100 diets that may or may not work for you. If it works, it's calorie restriction - math. If it doesn't, you eat too much. jmo

Hard to control my morning wood.
An unobstructed view of that also promotes weight loss 🤮

Just an InBody machine. Scale with handled type. https://ironlifeusa.com/products/inbody-270-body-composition-analyzer Our gym has one, as does our office.
used the egg before and can use it at the on post medical clinic for free but that seems less accurate. Like it showed me at 7% body fat which definitely isn’t accurate.

That’s interesting. How do you use the results?

Not really, but I have a scale and I tend to weigh myself more if I’m trending in the right direction. but I’m pretty much between 200 and 205 at any given time. Ideally, I’d like to stay below the 200 mark and I tend to weigh myself more when I’m close to going under.

Mostly to see if I’m making progress, lowering body fat % while increasing muscle mass. I was doing fairly well from January to October. I’ll get back on track, but I’m noticing if I’m in a specific training phase (currently doing a zwift cycling build) I might lose weight but a lot of that is muscle. Which really isn’t the goal.
I don’t have a specific goal I’m targeting (although <13% BF would be nice), the goal is monthly progress.

I weigh myself every single day after my morning whizz and before my shower. My weight is usually quite consistent. Interestingly, I have step-change gains/losses. I'll hold at 195 for months, then literally overnight I'll go to 198 and stay there for months. If I make a conscious effort to lose, I'll hold weight for a few days, then just drop. I don't totally understand it, but it's too common and consistent to be an anomaly.

I've also observed the following:
  • Drinking more than 1 alcoholic beverage near-instantly adds 1-2 pounds for a few days.
  • A big morning dump is ~1 pound.
  • Salads clean the pipes. I will eat salads for back-to-back meals every now and then if my weight is stalled high and it'll clear me out.
  • I weigh at least 2 pounds more in the evening in general.

I'm digging thru some titles I missed and this one hits a nerve for me.

#1 - I should likely weigh myself but I mainly go on pant size or waistline in my clothes at this point. I'll be perfectly blunt, the scale saddens me usually and I've never jumped on it and been rewarded with a band coming on and an announcement to everyone that I am fit and in good shape

#2 - When you are going to start a new lifestyle(diet and exercise) you likely are overweight and you know it so the scale only makes it worse. I think it's best to just start watching your weight/cutting back on junk food and bad foods in general and just start a daily walk routine, you are best to just stay off the scale until you go down a belt size or feel your clothes loosening up

Those numbers on the scale will send you into depression after you work your butt off all week and you only lose 1 pound or maybe worse, it's deflating

Mostly only when I'm looking to get in beach body shape. Nice to see the daily small progress being made.
This is me. During football season I'm just too busy with the side gigs so I don't exercise much if at all, so it would be depressing to see how much weight I'm gaining.

However, from February through August I walk a lot and hit up the gym a couple times a week (and eat better) so it's nice to see how much weight I drop.

I know it's not healthy to yo-yo but it's where I'm at for now.
