Grew up in a town of about 3,000, county totaled 9,000. The only high school still has average class sizes of 100 people.

I love my hometown; most every one of my closest relatives live there, and I enjoy visiting a place that seems stuck in time.

What about you?

Lived in Madison-Mayodan NC for a while.

Either town only has maybe 2000 people.

Back when textile was bring made in America...but that dried up in the late 80's.

born and raised in Sausalito, CA- about 7k.

Only other places I've lived: NYC, San Francisco and Milan. not small.

County thrives upon being located on a river and three-four manufacturing plants being up and running at any point in time due to the convenient location.

Dad's worked in the same factory with most of the same folk for right on 30 years. When I say stuck in time, I mean it!

Went to college in a city of 170,000. It was probably less when I stayed there over the summers.

I'm not exactly John Cougar Eephuscamp.

Thought for sure it would have been my college town, but was surprised to find my current location has a smaller population. I'm in a philly burb town with a population just shy of 8k. my college town in central PA has 10k. 1st house i bought was about 15k (also philly burb). and i grew up in philly with 1.5 million other slobs.

I've lived in Hong Kong, Chicago, Copenhagen, Sao Paulo, Copenhagen again, Rio de Janeiro a few months and then Lima. But I grew up in the countryside with 3 miles to the nearest town (13k). From then the list is in order of occurence

Surprisingly (after checking) it's the town I currently live in Watchung, NJ: 5,613. It doesn't fell "small town" necessarily. Guess it's just the geographical borders keep it small.

My father was Vietnam-era Air Force. I was born at Edwards AFB - Boron, CA

Wiki tells us:

Boron is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. Boron is located 15 miles (24 km) east-southeast of Castle Butte at an elevation of 2467 feet (752 m).[4] The population was 2,253 at the 2010 census, up from 2,025 at the 2000 census. Boron is named after the element boron and is the location of the world's largest source of the boron compound boric acid.

Boron is a hinterland community on the western edge of the Mojave Desert.

I grew up in a village of 200. Three corners and a river.

Post Office, church, John Deere, general store, honky tonk bar and my dad's factory. Golf course on the border. Elementary school was 3 miles away, hr/sr high 8 miles.

There was a swamp in the middle of it. We filled it up with industrial waste for 20 years. Got a grant and covered it with grass & a couple saplings, called it a park and donated it.

C'mon, that 10 miles to downtown SF.
big bridge in the way.

not saying I lived in the middle of nowhere... but the town itself was a smallish town- I knew most of the kids and all the best blackberry bushes/cherry-plum trees. and make-out spots.

 "hinterland" is being kind. Boron is BFE.

Did you have to hand-crank your phone and then ask Sarah to connect you to Floyd's Barber Shop?

Oak Park, Illinois (52,000)
Same here, Oak Park.

Normal, Illinois, would be second, at around 54,000. Of course, Bloomington-Normal, with roughly 110,000 people, felt a lot smaller than Oak Park, which is so close to a major metro. Only other cities I've lived in are Dallas and Chicago.

Lived in the town of Pineville NC. At the time the population was 3300. It's up to nearly 8000 now.
Played tee ball up to little league here. My dad lived over near the old Kroger up until '85. I think they bulldozed the ball fields and planted subdivisions.

Just because some cartographer cordoned off a two block section of the city and incorporated it doesn't make it a "small town", fellas. Y'all live in Chicago.

Collegeville, MN was technically the smallest. But that was college so it didn't feel that small.

Bullhead city or Kingman arizona definitely felt the smallest. Both are around 40k I think.

I've lived in Queens my whole life. Grew up in Ridgewood Queens, pop. probably around 70,000.

Now in Maspeth, pop. around 35,000.

My high school had 6000 students and my graduating class was 1200.
