What's up with Patrick Willis? (1 Viewer)

This is my first year playing with IDP's and I thought that I had done a lot of good prep leading up to our draft and put together a solid group of IDP's but have thus far been extremely disappointed. They're killing my team and I'm just not getting any solid production from them. The biggest culprit has been Patrick Willis who everybody said was one of the top LB's around, but he's the 27th ranked LB in my league at this point a month into the season. Is it time to push the panic button? I keep throwing him out there but am getting to the point where I'm thinking of benching him for a Mason Foster type (who's still on the wire) or going with Timmons (who hasn't been great either). Anybody else out there frustrated with Willis or am I just expecting too much given the pre-season hype surrounding him?

You're going to look at my profile picture and think I'm extremely biased, but I think everyone in here would tell you that the preseason "hype" that you are referring to is entirely justified. If you've been paying even a little bit of attention for the past 4 years, I would think you would understand that it's not just hype around this man. I'm not gonna rant much further. Willis is a stud. You don't bench him unless he's hurt or it's his bye week. There's plenty of stud linebackers out there that are struggling, but we're just a quarter of the way into the year. Let it play out..

Agreed you have poz scoring low and mayo was low up until his injury. A lot more teams are passing and with closer games less running. The only thing bad for Willis is there team is playing good that is the only problem I see but you don't bench him unless he is hurt

Team playing well and the addition of several solid tacklers plus a health D-line= P. Willis not putting up ungodly LB1 numbers (still a LB1 but might struggle to make top 5)

... Not to mention the fact that he has a guy named Navarro Bowman playing next to him, who has been all over the field and actually outperforming Willis.

Spikes performed well there last year also. I think with them being better it makes Willis more versatile on the field

IDPs in general are extremely dependent on the scheme they're playing in to put up numbers and so any changes by coaches can heavily impact their output. It is almost certainly not coincidental that SF has a new coaching staff.

I think P Willis comes to life this week, look at Colts LBs last week vs TB, they had lots of tackles and I think TB will continue with short passing and running up the gut with Blount, its working for them. Therefore Willis should get 8+ tackles. If not, I might trade him while people around my league still think he is a 10+ tackle guy every week.

Steelcityman, you are playing the matchup backwards in my eyes. The Colts LBs ALWAYS have a lot of tackles... 90% of their drives are 3 & outs. That defense sees more tackle opportunities in one game than any other team in the league right now. If anything I would think the opposite will be the case this week as TB looks awful against Indy. A team they should have wiped the floor with, expect the 49ers to get around two thirds of the tackle opportunities Indy experienced vs TB a week ago.

Colts tackle opportunities so far

Week 1: 59

Week 2: 57

Week 3: 56

Week 4: 63

49ers tackle opportunities so far

Week 1: 48

Week 2: 49

Week 3: 38

Week 4: 52

Also, while the Bucs are 9th right now in Tackle Ops allowed, however that 9th ranking is skewed by 2 huge weeks their defense completely shut teams down. Atlanta was a low scoring game in which the Falcons did nothing and only ran the ball 11 times. A lot of those drives ended early. I also already explained last week. I wouldn't expect any large game from Willis based off this weeks matchup.
