What's Your Biggest Mistake This Year? (1 Viewer)

Only depositing $35 on Fanduel (which I turned into $2,000,000).

If I would've deposited $350, I could be up $20 Million, huge blunder on my part.

Doubting Freeman because I owned him last year. Could have had him off waivers.

Missing out on Gurley by one round

Assuming rational coaching in Miami (Miller)

Keeping CJ Anderson in my auction keeper league. Prevented me from drafting a lot of players that I liked in the draft (and weren't kept). Could have kept Hyde or Ivory over Anderson.

Oops. Anderson is pretty much killing me.

Keeping Desean in a distance scoring league over the allegedly aged and potentially over the hill Brandon Marshall.

I have two:

1. Sleeping on Dion Lewis: I had a chance on him but picked up Karlos Williams instead and decided to wait a day on Lewis just in case McCoy was playing (this was the week he was in question). He was picked up Saturday morning. I don't feel completely bad about this since WIlliams has actually been a good pick up but Lewis will be better long term (I'm assuming)

2. Dropping the Rams defense: This is one of those "seemed like a good idea at the time" situations where they had the Cards, Packers and a BYE so I decided they weren't worth holding onto for now. Since dropping them, I've lost two games by single digit points where having them would've been the difference.

So I'm now sitting at 2-3 with the highest PF in the league (by about a 50 point margin). Does anyone have a time machine?

Stupid Mistake - Believing in and drafting Jeremy Hill in the late first in 2 leagues

Unlucky Mistake - Drafting Dez over Julio and Odell in both those leagues in the early 2nd.

I also cut Freeman after week 2 (for Matt Jones).

Thing is, I still don't think he's that great. But I underrated his situation.

All in on Charles, Lacy, Anderson, Miller, A. Johnson, A. Jeffery, M. Evans, D Walker, Coleman. Hopeless season for me. Not even worth setting some of my lineups.

Made a couple really bad ones.

1 - I had picks 1.11/2.02 and took Calvin/Cobb. I am fine with those picks, but I passed on Gronk twice because I already had Travis Kelce as a keeper.

2 - Tom Brady slipped to me (before the overturned suspension) in the 12th round. I took him as a value pick to trade him without ever having any intention of keeping him. I ended up selling him for Devante Parker and Bishop Sankey. My starting QB, Ryan Tannehill.

Didn't trade Abdullah for Ivory before the season

Kept CJ Anderson for a 11th round value. Good idea at the time but have since dropped him

Thus far (we are only 5 weeks in so things can turn around for the second half of the FF season) taking Mike Evans in round 3. Other than that feeling fine. And will feel even better when Big Ben get's back so Antonio can be Antonio again.

Panicking and drafting Melvin Gordon in redraft without doing my home work on him

Trusting that Peyton Manning could throw

Not bidding 3 more stupid faab dollars on Lewis after week 1

Round 2 - CJ Anderson

Round 4 - Jeffrey

Round 5 - Abdullah

Round 6 - Spiller

Tough to miss on all 3 RB's on your first 6 picks

I dropped Freeman in both of my leagues after week 2. :bag:
I would have done the same. Coleman looked good with incredible burst. Freeman looked he had ankle weights on.

If I did 30 mocks in August I took him 25 times. Always there in the 10th-11th round. I'm playing the points leader this week (I'm 2nd.) He took him in the 14th.

And not buying a decent shirt. You'd think with $2M, you'd have something on better than that ratty thing when on TV.

Right now, believing guys will get healthy and/or bounce back from slow starts. I have one team that consists of Luck, Lacy, Forsett, Cobb, Megatron, and Jeffery. Sitting at 2-3, but starting to get nervous.

How about drafting Dez in the first over Julio and Odell, wrapping around with Hill in the 2nd, and swinging around to get what I thought was the STEAL OF THE DRAFT, LeSean McCoy in the 3rd)! Go me!

Over-drafted Brandin Cooks in two leagues; I won't say which WRs went after I took Cooks. :bag:

In my biggest $$ redraft league, I've lost 3 games by a combined 9 points. I always start the wrong FLEX or DST.

Pairing Romo and Dez in Rounds 1 and 2 from the 11 spot (QB and WR centric scoring system). Could have paired Matt Ryan and Julio, or even better NOT paired my top QB and top WR at all. 0-5 with the rest of my team doing "okay" but losing your QB1 and WR1 always leaves you chasing points. Lesson learned....again.

Thinking Roddy White and Larry Fitzgerald would have the same production.

Thinking Andre Johnson would be any good.

Taking Andrew Luck over Aaron Rodgers.

Thinking Demarco Murray would be a top 5 RB.

Thinking Zach Ertz would be a TE1.

Yeah, a few things didn't roll my way this year....

Overpaying for Travis Kelce thinking he could be kinda like Gronk. I would have been better of picking up a free agent TE off waivers. It's still Gronk and everyone else.

Eifert 24-312-5

Gronk 20-375-4

Eifert is right there with Gronk (more receptions and TDs, less yards)

Going WR WR WR (Dez, ODB, and Cooks) with Lamar Miller my 1st RB in the 4th and waiting until the 10th to get my QB, Tannehill. Still, I'm 3-2 and in the running. Somehow.

Hi, I'm Mr. Irrelevant's fantasy teams, and I have cable.

Seriously, though, this year has been a litany of miscues. Despite an amazing (and likely unsustainable) lack of injuries I'm 2-3 or 3-2 in every league. My rosters are the "who's who" of 2015 underachievers and I've got no one to blame but myself.

Rather than harp on specific names I'll focus on the errors themselves:

1) Falling prey to recency bias. I'm in four snake leagues and drew the 7-hole in every one. In three of them, I snapped up C.J. Anderson because - well, his ADP justified it, and he abused some fools last year! Never mind that the first round is all about floor, not ceiling, CJA's had one good year, and is part of an aging offense with a coaching staff who's never hesitated to play RB roulette.

2) Expecting zebras to change their stripes. Everyone knew Philbin was a terrible coach and Lazor loves to sling the ball. Everyone knew Miami had brought in new receiving weapons for Tannehill. Why did I think this was going to translate into a career year for ... Lamar Miller? Because he's talented? Far better coaches have spent longer time periods misusing more transcendent talents (I'm looking at you, Mike McCoy and Ladarius). And why would I expect Sam Bradford, after four years of consistent mediocrity, to go supernova just because he's got Chip Kelly calling his plays?

3) Assuming a rising tide lifts all boats - even those with holes in them. If a guy's on his way out, he's on his way out. Just because Luck and Ryan are throwing the ball doesn't mean the intended target is the one on a fountain-of-youth dunk tank for guys like Andre and Roddy.

4) Going all-in on high-risk, high-reward guys. It's an elementary principle of investing that you diversify your longshot bets. Going all-in on a true stud like Gronk (the only thing that's saving multiple teams for me) is one thing; reaching for high-ceiling, low-floor guys like Charles Johnson and Jordan Matthews works much better when you identify 5 different names and reach for one or two of them in each league.

Don't be like this me.

Thinking Andrew Luck would have a career year.

trading a 2016 1st for DJax.

Unlucky Mistake - Drafting Dez over Julio and Odell in both those leagues in the early 2nd.

Taking Antonio Brown too high in a non-PPR league. I'd call that somewhat unlucky but also because I forgot it wasn't PPR.

Taking Lamar Miller as my RB1 and Crowell as my RB2

Where to begin....

Dropped Dion Lewis for Tyler Varga after James White was the "clear" frontrunner for the Vareen position.

Traded Julian Edelman for Kendall Wright in preseason because Brady suspended and Edelman usually hurt or inconsistent

Traded Martellus Bennett and Tyler Eifert for Greg Olsen and Antonio Gates

Then traded Moncrief and Gates for Bennett back after Olsen's terrible start

Then traded Foster for Moncrief back cause I missed him

Oh and same guy who got Eifert and Foster from me for basically Greg Olsen, is also the guy who picked up Dion Lewis after I dropped him. I hate football. But somehow my team is still in first place.

Before Ben's Injury he was still tearing it up in non PPR. I took him 8th overall and still love that pick no question.

With Ben he is a non PPR stud too. He will be back to his studly self in another week when the golden child returns to QB.

Winner.

Mine would be drafting Lacy at 4 in PPR, and drafting Cooks in the same league. Thank god for Larry Fitz.

Also, taking Abdullah over Gurley in a league where we keep 2 Vets and 1 Rookie each year, because Gurley was still hurt and I thought I needed a RB to help right away with Bell suspended for the first 2 games.

Reaching early for Andrew Luck...seems to be a popular choice

Melvin Gordon over Gurley.

I may come back to this thread and post something about not grabbing Christine Michael from FA when I had the chance

I don't consider any draft picks a mistake per se, because I was working with all available info. Injuries happen, situations change, etc.

That said, I drafted Luck and Romo in a 2 QB league. Still somehow 3-2 thus far.

Very true. I forgot about the Pats week 4 bye. I still don't think it's "Gronk and everyone else" but regardless mea culpa
