Artificial now with real boughs for the smell. When Christmas begins setting up at Thanksgiving it pretty well cancels a live tree. We have some Christmas decorations set up year round--used to be more in my single days but even now from where I sit I can see a carved elf and a stuffed Santa snoozing with a polar bear that haven't moved for a year.

We've had the same artificial one for fifteen years. Still looks good. I'd like a real one, but I don't have the extra cash to justify it when the current one is nice.

This have come a long way in recent years I've got two artificial pre-lit trees. Come in three pieces. Pop the three pieces together and spread out the branches a bit. Done.

For nearly forty years I have been using a natural invisible pink solstice tree. It didn't cost me a penny, it is natually rot resistant, and the cat doesn't climb it.

Maybe it's because I grew up with artificial trees. I think a real Christmas tree is magical.

Yes. We keep the bottom two pieces together and on the stand, zip it up in the cover and wheel it into the corner of the garage. When time to put it up, wheel it out, and put the top piece on it.

My wife spends the better part of a day decorating it, but that is what she likes to do.

MY choice is a real tree. My wife always plays the allergy :bs: and we get a fake one.
There's such a thing as being allergic to Christmas trees?
They carry mold and pollen.
We did real trees for a long time and really enjoyed it - but both my wife and I broke out in big itchy blotches from getting scraped handling it, putting it up and decorating it. Just like when you get tested for different allergies and they scrape your back/arm.

Sinuses would get clogged up too.

Just picked up the 9-10' Frasier yesterday. $90 and comes with a free, fresh pie. Went apple crumb this year....awesome.

Thanks for reminding me I gotta dig that retched pile of crap out from god knows where in my storage room so my wife can cuss me out for not doing something (who in gods name even knows what) wrong while putting it up.

My wife and I argue like 6 times a year. One of those times is always Xmas tree contruction.

you throw away the fake one very year?

Haven't had a fake one in about 20 years.

Was in a meeting Wednesday and subject came up and I was adamant about how I hate fake trees.

I come home at 7pm that night and the wife as bought a $300 OtisFake Tree and is telling me she had allergies last few years.

Pine tree allergies are not very common. Fir allergies even less so.

Amazing though how my mom was allergic and I hear all my friends wives are allergic and obviously some on here too. I think they are more allergic to the vacuuming of the needles every other day and having to water it.

I love having a real tree. Hated when my mom switched to the artificial when I was younger. I have hardwood floors and make a point to sweep for needles every other day. This year it is every day since my dog has the lamp shade on from suregery and keeps hitting everything with it, including the tree.

Every year, 7-8' frasier fir from home depot. 40 bucks. :moneybag:
Exactly what we do. Can't beat it.
Yep.

Funny, the Mrs #####es about the "mess" even though I clean up after it, loves the hell out of it when it's up, then #####es again about the mess when I drag it to the curb. And every year you'd be hard pressed to find a needle anywhere afterward...

No fake boobs or Xmas trees for me.

$28 from Costco. It was bundled with twine when we bought it so we couldn't see if it was full or had dead spots, but it turned out to be real and spectacular. Closer to 8' feet. Costco doesn't cut the bottom for you like Home D, so I got to use the sawzall one more time this year.

We paid $50 for our tree from a local nursery. Slightly more than HD or Lowes or Costco, but they also had cookies out, a santa for the kids (you could use your own camera for pictures and they didn't charge for visiting), and free horse/carriage rides.

We have four Christmas trees. All are artificial, one is a green string of lights put on the wall in the shape of a pine tree.

When we buy a house, one of the first things I'm doing is planting a pine tree out back, that will be our Christmas tree every year until it dies from old age.

Real one from a big box is the way to go. The roadside stands are a ripoff.
Is this true? I always buy a fresh tree on the roadside to support small business. Explain your view. :coffee:
Big Box stores are likely ordering a massive quantity for all of their stores. They are getting them the cheapest, so odds are they don't have to mark them up as much. They want to get the customers to the store to buy the other Christmas stuff.

Since they are moving so many trees they are getting fresh ones in multiple times a week. Every tree I have gotten from a big box (HD & Lowes) has lasted int ok Jan without shedding many needles.

I don't blame anyone for supporting local business though.

Have you ever had a living Pine tree in your yard? They have a ton of negatives, not worth it.

we have a few in the backyard now, although not the kind you'd make into a Christmas tree. Pine needles make great kindling - smokey, but gets the fire going. We live in the southeast, lots of pine around here.

We went real, 9 footer. I'm not exactly sure what kind as I wasn't paying attention when the guy told me but this tree smells great and was really light compared to other trees. I want to get this kind every year.

I wish i had 50 pine trees in my yard. I only have about 5-6. You must be in a warm climate because in wisconsin I actually cant think of a single negative.

Green all year. No need to pull weeds underneath it since the needles basically kill everything. Pine cones make the fire smell great. No need to rake my lawn every fall from it.

My wife finally got me to take the family to a tree farm and cut down our own tree last night. Easily one of the worst experiences I've had.

We got there and it was $65 for any size frasier fir. Of course we had to find the biggest one so we get the most value. (We have high ceilings) We walked and walked until we finally found it. A 12ft behemoth about as far from our car as you could get. They had a tractor driving around picking people up and their trees when they were done cutting, so the distance didn't matter.

It took me a good 10-15 minutes of furious cutting with the dull saw they gave me before the tree came down. Covered in dirt from laying on the ground, dripping with sweat even though it's 30 degrees and completely out of breath, we waited for the tractor. 20 minutes goes by and we haven't seen one. They had been coming by at least every 10 minutes, so we waited another ten, but still nothing and it was now dark. (They stop running them at a certain time which nobody mentioned and it wasn't posted)

I ended up having to drag this tree probably 1/2 a mile back to where we parked, stopping every 50-100ft so my legs could get a chance to stop burning.

Never again

Done that for years. Last year our HD tree died about a week after we bought it so my wife knew I would be vulnerable this year. This was supposed to be about "the experience" and "making memories".

loved the real tress till we bought a fake one

it's so damn easy, never has bare spots

just so much less hassle
