Whats Your Opinion On Tom Cable? (1 Viewer)

I like what i heard from him...he seems like a regular joe that loves what he does ...big guy who says it like it is...i can see the players responding favorably and playing hard for him.

I also think he going to open up the offense and let Russell whip the ball around more

maybe they'll play hard for Cable, but it's hard to be truly motivated to win for an organization led by Al Davis.mid-season firings are hard for the team to recover from, no matter how much you want the coach to go.

Theres already a Tom Cable FBG member name I just saw on boards. Or is it AL DAVIS hideing in an allibi?

I FEEL SORRY FOR THE DUDE.

al davis is an 120% ### HOLE!

maybe you should start an al davis bashing thread and we can discuss T.Cable in this one ...thanks for playing

The bar is set pretty low for him right now? Is anyone expecting 5 wins out of him? He goes 5-11 with that bunch while dealing with Davis and he's coach of the year in my opinion.

On the field, it remains to be seen of course.

But I loved every last word which came out of his mouth today. Sounds like an ### kicker, which is just what we need.

Tom "Basic" Cable

I liked what I heard from Cable, maybe he can rally the troops. I was embarrassed to learn that he was an ATL OL coach and I didn't know it, tho. :lmao:

But, then again, Petrino sounded good in his press conference. :banned: Don't get antsy, I get how different this is. Aside from being surprised it wasn't Ryan, maybe he'll rally the troops. We'll see what happens after a few games.

He did an amazing job as OL coach in Atlanta and Oakland, and that speaks well to his coaching ability. However, for Oakland's viability as an NFL franchise, I think they would have been better off having Cable focus on his strengths (coaching the offensive line) rather than distracting him with head coaching tasks.

He specifically mentioned in his interview with the press that his new title would not detract from his O-Line teaching. He will delegate. Ryan controls the defense. Knapp will work extensively with Russell, and do most of the play calling. I get the impression that Cable's main task will be to inspire and be a "leader of men"... he wants to be personally involved with each player on the team. I liked hearing that he's been a Raiders fan since he was a little boy.

Art Shell kicked ### in his press conference too.
Not to my recollection. His personality has always been  ...Like I said in the other thread, I heard Cable speak for 5 minutes and I wanted to suit up and run through a wall for him. That RAH RAH stuff doesn't always translate into wins, of course, but it's nice to see someone in the big chair who's more than a robot.

I hate to roll with this cliche, but...I hope for the sake of the NFL Cable can handle Al and turn the franchise around (6 wins anyone???). The league is better when the Raiders are a competitive football team.

They were competive with Kiffin. Just needed to find a way to come out on top.

Always seems they are in games. It's not like in S.L AND Detroit and unfortunatly my great home state of Ohio latly. They are in them games no matter whom the opponnet!

I don;t see anything changeing soon until they get DAVIS out!

On the whole, the team was already playing hard for Kiffin. I get the sense that of the 3 people Davis talked to, Cable might have been the only one willing to take the position. His resume leaves alot to be desired and I fail to see how he'll be able to affect the Raiders true problem - the defense. At this point, Davis is ostensibly the HC and will be for the foreseeable future as long as he retains control over co-ordinator hires.

A break here and there and this team could eek out a few more wins, but they're a long way away from being a winning team. Atleast they've been putting an actual NFL team on the field as opposed to the JV squad that Art Shell fielded.

:bag: Ryan badly wanted the job, and was disappointed when Davis informed him Cable was the choice.
Not one of the three I was talking about
According to a source, Raiders owner Al Davis scheduled one-hour meetings Monday evening with three members of the coaching staff -- offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, offensive line coach Tom Cable and longtime NFL offensive coordinator and current Raiders consultant Paul Hackett. The meetings, according to the source, were to discuss the possibility of replacing Kiffin, who has yet to be informed of any potential change.

No way Ryan should be head coach after his defense blowing 2 leads the past two weeks IN THE FOURTH QUARTER!!!

Get him out of there. We need a defensive coach with some balls, has a killer instinct, and will relentlessly pressure instead of playing playing not to lose... Rob is no Buddy for sure.

Hire Buddy. When he gets fired, he'll punch Al in the piehole. Now THAT's must see TV!

He's no Art Shell.

And that's a good thing.

From his comments, he looks like a GREAT Interim coach with upside to permanent if he can win 8 games. It's doable.

Was Knapp calling the plays while Kiffen was the HC?

Any chance an OAK WR becomes a solid fantasy play because of the coaching change?

Art Shell kicked ### in his press conference too.Just sayin'.
 Exactly what I was thinking. Don't think this ends well (not going out on a limb there, I know)
could it be worse than it was?
Yes, yes it can.

Looks and sounds far more like a staff segeant then a general.

Not what I would want from a head coach. At least from initial cursory appearances.
