Wheels will fall off the Jets bandwagon (1 Viewer)

I have worked for an ABC TV station for over 20 years and I’ve seen it over and over again. NY teams are always given way too much coverage, given too much credit for victories when the other team plays poorly and are always overrated even when they are bad. The Jets should not even be in the playoffs and I see the Colts bringing the NY media and Jet fans back to earth this Sunday. I heard one remark yesterday how the Jets handed the Colt their first loss of the season. Reality is the Colts handed the Jets a win because they choose to play for the Super Bowl instead of a record. The injury to Wes Walker should have vindicated the Colts. Will the Colts run up the score like the Vikings did on the Cowgirls? No, too much class. Jet fans; enjoy your last week of playing football for awhile.

is it me or wasn't that regular season game between the two teams close even when all the starters were playing? I think your "20 years of experience" might be lying to you. I see a very close game but we shall see!

Why? Manning and all the starters played LONGER in week 17 than Welker was in his game. They weren't vindicated at all. I'll bite on your fishing trip, though. The Colts should handle the Jets, but fans will be satisfied with losing in the AFC title game. Like I said in my other thread, I do think this will put a lot of pressure on Sanchez to perform next year, and it's a team that barely made the playoffs. They could easily miss it next year and fans will be calling for his head if they slip to 7-9.

Indy could have KO'd them, and didn'tSomehow, I see this comming back to haunt the Colts---Rex has always been able to hang w/Manning...scoring on the Indy-D was the issue

ground-n-pound, baby...I'm telling you, do NOT lay the wood in this one

I hope that doesn't happen to Rex Ryan, but you're probably right. It's fascinating to me how quickly a fan base turns on the head coach if there is even a modest dropoff in success. The Colts were consistently dreadful throughout most of the 80's and 90's, but the end of this decade saw their fans complaining about a team with a 14-1 record.

Do you call into WFAN regularly? Sounds like the same call over and over again among the Jets' detractors. As a long suffering Jets fan, it's actually welcoming to hear people bash them for winning instead of always falling short.

As I said in the other thread, The pressure is on regardless.... just for a 2nd year QB to show improvement..... If Sanchez never made the playoffs and went 7-9 next year with bad QB play BELIEVE ME, the pressure would be on and they would call for his head.

Unlike Chase and others, I was on House money in the Cincinatti game... To me, the Experience Sanchez is getting even just prepping for these games is experience you can't buy with all the money in the world!!!!!!!!!!

From where I stand, this Jets team IS overrated - People talk about the Defense being #1 and all.. To me, this defense is just a flash of what it could be next year.. Add Jenkins back, add another pass rusher and build on what the D learned this year and I say this year is just scratching the surface...And If you're going to trot out what I think will be a much improved Defense from this year, next, I don't foresee a huge set back in W/L record.

A lot of close losses this year were do to inexperience in the coaching dept as well as QB... I think they get over that hump a bit next year and grab some of those games they had no business losing this year....

Jets are doing pretty good for a team that should not even made the playoffs. The Jets play excellent defense, can run the rock, play good special teams and Sanchez has protected the ball. I still don't understand why people continue to doubt the Jets. Can the Jets beat the Colts? Yes. Will they win, maybe not, but, they certainly deserve to be where they are.I love the Jets +7.5.

What's the point of starting a thread like this? Jets fans are excited about a great season and the possibility of the Super Bowl, and you can't get past your own negativity to let us enjoy it?

I assure you that this thread in no way expresses the feelings, thoughts, or ideas of most Colts fans.

LOL you are such a prognastacator. It is so hard to say the wheels will come off a team I mean you know have a 75% chance to be right. Weak, there is one team every year the so called wheels do not come off. FOOLISH POST

It is part of being successful, once you become successful the haters will follow. Enjoy it, every time there is a post such as this about your team means your squad is getting under the skin of someone because of their success now or in the past . Congrats to the Jets they are playing some good ball and hey they are 1 win from the show. Good Luck

WWOOOOOOO WE MADE IT BOYS! WOOOOO! FINALLY THE JETS ARE GETTING HATERS FOR MORE THAN JUST BEING THE JETSS!!!

SUCCESS!

:lmao:

:banned:

I tell you I'm with Reaper - we're playing with house money here and I am just thrilled they get to play in the frigging AFC Championship.

Do I want them to win? HELL YEAH! Do I think they can win? HELL YEAH! Are they SURE to win? HELL NO.

But in the end, there were four teams left and it's been a long freaking time since my main team was one of them.

Wow, really going out on a limb here. Can you tell us some the other 8 point favorites you like?

How old are you?
No followup reply from the OP at all in this thread. interesting that he has not responded at all, but just watching the thread develop.so I'm asking again: how old are you?

I didn’t know my post would be looked upon with so much negatively. I just got done reading some post how the Jets and Cowboys will meet in the Super Bowl in the next few years and it got to me. The media pays so much attention to NY teams it seems biased against other teams, except for Dallas. I have to watch some of the network coverage because my job is to switch the local breaks. It is biased and does get old. The truth is none of us will have an affect on the winners and losers so everyone can stop acting like I stepped on a puppy.

Seems like no one outside of NY has ever really paid attention to the Jets, and historically for good reason. Has always been the Giants, which is why Jets fans can finally take some happiness that the Giants are long gone and the Jets are still going.

If you really read that Dallas/Jets post by the way, you'd notice a ton of people saying that it's too hard to predict, that things change every year and that the OP was talking about the Jets being set up for success for years - I';m not even sure he said Super Bowl -I'd have to look- but even if he did, more than a fair share of folks in that thread pointed to other teams who look just as good.I also can't imagine you're half as shocked as you say you are given the negative fishing of the first post. The Jets are one of just 4 teams left - and the flat out most unlikely of the 4. How is it shocking to a guy who has been in the media 20 years that they are all over the place.

While I agree that fans of NY teams might over-hype them, that's only because there's more of everything in NY. That includes the rabid sports fans! Everybody has them, and that's a good thing.

On the other hand, this Jets team is legit. They may not be "elite", but they play excellent D and are able to pound the ball. Sanchez needs experience and Braylon needs hands, but they're on their way. Go J-E-T-S!

I could see where the wealth of Jets coverage the last 20 years - don't need to tell you man I mean, you've been there in the trenches - it's brutal. I can't go anywhere without seeing a Jets will take the NFL headline on every sports station. FOR YEARS.

It's ALWAYS about NY sports.

Except when it's about Favre.

Or the Pats.

Or the Bulls in the 80s. Or the Lakers. Or Tim Tebow. Or the Saints. Or the Red Sox. Or Tom Cable breaking jaws.

Or whatever else the sports media has chosen to run into the ground that month.

Come on man, I'm tired of Ryan's  and sure the media can beat a story into the ground but why call out Jets fans like they're all bandwagons?

The next time the Niners make the NFC Championships I hope nobody tries to piss on MY parade.

Exactly. Ask ANY Jets fan where they thought the team would be wehn they lost both Jenkins (who arguably was the defensive MVP at the time...even over Revis) and then Leon Washington (our only offesnive player with "wiggle" and we would have been very satified with 8-8). In fact, last year, there were many who thought the Cards did not deserve to be in the playoffs as they came from an extremely weak division, and I believe backed into the playoffs (losing their last couple of games). At this point, the Jets don't have to "runn the table", they just have to win one game and they are in a game they have not been in 40 years. Think about that; I am guessing there are few Jets fas on this particular board over 48 years old, which means most of us do not even remember (or were not a twinkle in dad's eye) the last time they made the game. If they lose this weekend, they lose. No one is saying this team is unstoppable! They just have an excellent Defense, great O line and very good running game. But we still have the right to "believe" at this point in the season. And while I would never say their Defense is as good as the vaunted Ravens D, the Jets offense is better than what the Ravens trotted out in their SB year.I wouldn't be quick to lump Jets fans in the usual "NY fan" base. Rangers, Devils, Yankees, Mets and Giants fans expect a winner...Jets fan expect the worst and are shocked by the best. I liken Jets fans more to Cubs fans than Yankee fans.

I've always heard jets fan = mets fan & giants = yankees. Is this true for the most part?

For the most part Jets fans are: JETS METS ISLANDERS KNICKS....What could be worse than living in the media capital of the world and having the some of the most unsuccessful teams in the country YET, still get treated like you're a NEW YORK fan or a Yankee fan.Hey, I am A Yankee fan, I'm an oddball and I get why people hate Yankee fans.. But, Jet fans dont' deserve half the #### they get.... I always run into Jets fans who are some of the best, loyal and humble sports fans on the planet. And I'll continue to say the Jets fans at FBG are some of the best posters around - amazing at how many run their own sites, radio shows or are WAYYY into Football.

People see a lot of Jets fans at Radio City Music Hall for the draft, that puts them on tv a little more too.

Generally speaking, that's the case, and driven a lot by geography. For the most part, the Jets/Mets/Islanders fans cover the Long Island/Brooklyn/Queens contingent. The Giants/Rangers/Yankees generally cover the Manhattan/Bronx/Staten Island/New Jersey contingent.Of course, there are always exceptions like myself: a Jets/Yankees/Rangers/hates-the-NBA fan.

I almost gave this it;s own thread and maybe I should but this busted me up.

Hopefully this lightens this thread up:

For those who missed David Letterman’s show Monday night: “The Top 10 Signs the Jets Are Getting Cocky”

10- Offered to give the Colts a 14 pt lead

9- Just purchased Ikea shelving unit for Lombardi Trophy

8- 4 Words: Field Goal Kicking Donkey

7- Several confused Jets called Eli Manning to say, “See you, Sunday!”

6- Whole team is now dating Jessica Simpson

5- Posted playbook on Twitter

4- Focus on tomorrows practice: Executing a flawless Gatorade Bath

3- Players have this weekend off

2- Instead of focusing on receivers, Darrelle Revis negotiating deal to host “the Tonight show” in 2015

1- Rex Ryan calling his abs “the Situation plus 40 years of Cheese Fries”

Two of the commentors offered:

No. 11: They are going to let Rich Kotite coach the 1st quarter

or

No. 1:

THEY’RE NOT, it just seems that way because they know they’re better than everyone else

I like that Dave couldn't even do this list without taking a shot at NBC and Leno.

Yeah I split my allegience between Mets & Yanks but honestly I'm not a huge baseball fan anymore - it died while I was in LA. And I ended up a Laker/Clipper guy in LA so the whole NY BBall thing is out of my depth.

To me, it was never geography at all.... From when I was growing up - it was always about who your Dad and grandfather rooted for and the Yankees and Giants were the the older Franchises and usually stuck together...Also when the Dodgers left, all those Yankee haters gravitated to the Mets.

Not to get too far off topic, but while I agree it usually goes by one's dad's teams, that also tends to be geographic. The older franchises - Yanks and Giants - both have their roots in the Bronx (Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds, respectively). Mets definitely took on most of the Brooklyn Dodgers fans, and the Jets and Mets have their roots in Queens.

Technically it is. Jets fans primarily come from Long Island and Queens, like Mets fans, since they played their home games at Shea Stadium from 1964-1983 (Shea Stadium is/was in Queens). That is why most people are Jets-Mets. They shared a stadium for 20 seasons.

You will find Jets-Yankees since Yankees fans are everywhere and transcend geography, but you will RARELY find Giants-Mets.
