When do the magazines come out? (1 Viewer)

Well I found the Pro Football Weekly Season Preview on the magazine rack yesterday and bought it. It's very much a 'magazine' format, with analysis of the draft, free agent movement, last year's impact rookie's, and of course a team by team breakdown on this coming season.

Not so much a 'fantasy' magazine as it is just an NFL preview. But to the train commuter or bored toilet user, it is fantastic and I am glad to see the mags beginning to show up.

2 out of 5 baked potatoes (5 out of 5 obviously going to Footballguys mag)

just saw the my first fanatasy mag of the season in the newstand in my office here in NYC.

NFL.Com Fantasy Football Magazine is on the stands now.

Back in their glory days (with Blubble blower Buschbaum), they didn't print PWF Weekly until late June early July. Now they have to rush it out onto the stands to get their piece. It has really dropped off but I will probably get it anyway. I need new crapper material to read. Can someone report when Lindy's (always good reading) comes out so I don't have to go into Zombie-mart twice.

seen lindy's today at waldenbooks

Saw another magazine today.

It is titled Fantasy Football. It is related to the NFFC- National Fantasy Football Championship.

Is it worth getting the magazine if you have a FBG subscription? Seems to me a mag should come with the subscription to the site.

Any more sightings?

Footballguys gets you great in depth injury and development news. But I still enjoy the magazines because you get to see a big concensus of what players will do. 5 magazines will have 5 different takes on the impact Ted Ginn will have this year. Then I kind of piece it all together and walk away with my own take.

For Fantasy I have seen Beckett/Rotoworld.com :lmao: & NFL.com :lmao: I was looking at a Street & Smiths Football preview mag and the fantasy rankings and projections were from footballguys.com. Wondering what the relationship is there.

I saw those as well. I really enjoyed the Beckett/Rotoworld issue.

I picked up the Beckett one yesterday too. Pretty good read. They went out on a limb on their cover, also.

"LaDainian Tomlinson -- The Consensus #1 Overall Pick." :o

i hate how FF mags waste space on obvious stuff like who's the best RB or the same rankings as everyone else.

I've ordered Footballguys mag for the first time based on the positive feedback from others. A lot of FF mags IMO write for people who don't have a lot of FF experience.... they might appreciate the "insight" that SJax is the #2 ranked player. Guys like us who hang out on FF boards during the offseason have debated common topics like these months ago.

What I like is mags that throw in info that guys like us don't have time to research like the OL. I LOVE articles on OL because honestly, it's not a sexy position and difficult to research w/ any level of passion.

Me, too :jawdrop:

I saw one yesterday that had Rudi as the 16th ranked RB. Say what? Dude is Mr. Consistency. I have him as high as #7.

oh yea, they're all hitting the stores now...I'm buying them like a madman, have two in each bathroom of my house, 2 on my bedside table, hell I even have one in my briefcase.

I'm actually buying them like such an addict that I bought the Athlon one with Cedric B on the cover twice! What a jerk! (me)

My father will be receiving that one tomorrow.

Anyway, loving it...can't wait for the Footballguys one, and can't wait for the season to get here!!!

Perhaps some people think footballoutsiders' contribution is more of a book than a magazine, but it will be released on 23 JUL, and can be pre-ordered through Amazon now.

I was at the book store yesterday and was floored by the variety of FF mags available. I grabbed the Footballguys.com mag for a quick browse. The magazine looks good with tons of info. Because I'm a subscriber, I really don't have reason to buy the mag (or any other FF mag). I don't think the magazine is really geared for current subscribers because all the info is available at the website (and more current). But if I had to buy or recommend a magazine, I'd probably reach for the Footballguys.com mag.

If you pay for the site subscription to Footballguys.com, do you need a FootballGuys.com magazine? I bought one anyways, but this year I have found myself reading it less because I use the site more (especially the daily emails).

I built this site really quick for fantasy football magazine reviews.

It should help you guys.
hey kris, thought this was a cool site. noticed you havent updated it. wondering if you plan to. very curious to see how you rate the fbg mag.
Thanks for the compliments on the site. I will review and have the results posted within 2 days. I'm looking forward to reading the perennial favorite.
Really nice site. I was just wondering if you were going to add the Forecast one...I think that and Index are the best ones out there

Hey Kris,

I was wondering -- how do you feel that the various magazines will hold up over the next few months? Are you planning on follow-up on variuous mags to see how they did?

Just curious. I've never been a magazine guy as it always seems to me that mags are out of date shortly after they hit the stands. What are your thoughts on that?

What are anyone's thoughts on that?

I'll probably head down and finish of the last of them by the end of the week. I saw it there, but I didn't have enough time to read anymore than 5. I had a pretty good impression of Index. Thanks very much for your comment.

I've always been a magazine guy just because I love preparing for the draft so much and want to get started as soon as possible. I would love to have a full blown website on how the mags stack up with predictions, but I do not have nearly that amount of time. I am thankful that another one of this board's very own - BigRed - has helped me out with creating much improved tables and organization for my site as well as writing a very important second opinion. Will the magazines holdup? I think so for the most part. The good ones have done most of the leg work with predictions and setting the table with information you need to know. If can adjust your thoughts according to the latest training camp/preseason news, a magazines worth is still there. Usually preseason affects only a handful of players, so most of the material and projections you read on the upcoming season are still good.I do want to say here that magazines are very difficult to produce because you need them out basically by July and the draft happens late April and then you have to try and wait out as many off season transactions and happenings as you can. And its easy to be the one that criticizes the projections, but when you have to be the guy that makes the first projections without any help from other sources, its a lot more difficult. I need to read several information feeds before I feel comfortable creating my own predictions. I wouldn't want to make them raw - without anyone else to compare to.In the end, yeah some of the material will be dated, but a lot of it stays current, and if you enjoy just reading opinions on fantasy football, they're worth a pickup as late as the end of July. Edit: PS I wanted to add that mags such as FBGs that are packed with info to the brim are well worth the $7+ you pay. You could read FBGs for hours upon hours.
