Any poor soul that had to ride in my car around '90 heard this song far too much.  Loved it in a "should be a guilty pleasure but don't feel guilty about it" kinda way.  I bought the cassette single, and Trixter was so hard up for material, there was no B side.  So, I taped "High Enough" (by Damn Yankees) onto the blank side.  The two songs kept playing on a constant loop. That taped played over and over in my car ad naseum more times than I can count.

Damn Yankees were pretty good. Coming of Age, Come Again, and Rock City all shred.

Cinderella were never as big as Poison or Warrent but were a much better band.   I still like Cinderella much more than either of those bands.   Cinderellar opened for Poison many years and I went just for Cinderella.   Poison was terrible live.  I never understood how they became as big as they did.

Apropos of not much, I was never a fan, but I saw Poison open for Def Leppard  just a couple years ago and they were very good.  Fun, energetic, sounded good, then Lep came out and went through the motions, I came away that night thinking Poison was the better draw

As for Cinderella I loved em but they haven't had a ton of staying power for me in my old age.

Some other really late '80s/early 90s bands that the labels at least tried to shove as crossover into the hair metal section but didn't quite make it on account of being bands that were just too good or didn't have that "hit." Either way, I tried to pick non-LA bands that were always on the periphery of that scene at that time. (Life, Sex, and Death probably don't belong here, but they didn't know how to market this band on a major in 1992.) The king of them all, Vain, and their title track to their first, is at the bottom. 

(Cinderella was indeed one of the best of the hair metal bands, by far. Night Sounds was the ninth grade soundtrack on a driving trip from CT to FLA once, and it fit the bill)

For some reason, even an insipid, yet urgent sincerity like Hanoi Rocks sings about in a song like "Tragedy" places it out of the realm of possibility for chief and arch-browed ironists like The Darkness. The cold ironist can never really compete with the reality of feeling something important and grand, no matter how debased the topic is. The Darkness works because hair metal is foolish at its end, but it still never quite catches up to artistry of the longing of the sybarites.

I would disagree. The Darkness is more of a classic 70s rock band tribute/influence (Led Zeppelin, Queen, etc.). Steel Panther would be the hair band equivalent.

I think there are a few bands (Crue, VH, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, etc) who had their "phase" of going glam, but their true nature is not glam.  Hell, Aerosmith even had that brief phase of doing the glam thing in the 80s.  But they sure as hell aren't a hair band.

Pretty sure Skid Row is a classical music group. Their lead singer was Sebastian Bach afterall.

They are from my Area and Keifers hometown is 15 mins from me. I lived 5 Mins from where he grew up until I was 10 so I might be a little biased here. I think they are super underrated and had they came out yrs earlier they'd be as big as Motley Crue and others. Also can we call it by it's real name the Genre Sleaze/Glam. Hair Metal was meant as a derogatory term by the people who hated the genre.
