Where in the world are the middle-aged dummies? Worldwide top 31 song countdown. (4 Viewers)

Side note: I mostly know "Wake Me Up" from the music that's piped in at my workplace.
It is, however, a song I've also heard live. Just performed with(/by) 2Cellos.
I was very close to picking 2Cellos here - they’re awesome.
Yeah, I was trying to avoid covers, mostly to narrow down possibilities. Otherwise, they'd likely have found their way onto my list.
Love string covers, but couldn't find myself narrowing it down to one so I just bagged the idea.

Sorry I haven't been more engaged this time. I just haven't had me time lately. I've only read the playlists and scrolled the thread quickly. I was entertained by the Tommy Ramone outting. That's the stuff I like about this format. No biggie to lose the song. Fun to learn a bit of Tommy's background. This isn't an exercise to take so seriously. It's just time wasting entertainment. Sedated is a great punker and I ranked it rather high. So now a replacement song is ranked that high, which is also entertaining for me.

There's a scene in the 1990s mini-series version of Stephen King's The Stand where a couple of characters listen to the 45 RPM "Don't Dream It's Over". Needle drops, scratchy guitar comes in, and that bass hits. It's one of the most perfect music-to-scene moments I've ever seen. The film itself is cheesy as hell, but they nailed it here.

I remember this scene from the relatively underrated miniseries well; it was Molly Ringwald as Frannie Goldsmith and Corin Nemec as Harold Lauder. That series had a lot of pretty solid casting and some decent acting. It isn't perfect by any means. I didn't see the newest version that had James Marsden, but I got the sense it wasn't great, which is too bad - you'd figure HBO Max would blow it out or something, but we'd probably have to wait another 20 years.

I personally loved the original miniseries.

Which of the following much-maligned US locales will NOT receive a song-title shout-out: (a) Bakersfield, (b) Buffalo, (c) Detroit, (d) Memphis, or (e) none of the above (all will be represented)?

And again both good and bad news for Ace Award guesses:

Don’t Stop Me Now - Queen (UK/Zanzibar)
(new song)

I'm as surprised as anyone that I chose a Queen song, but I love this one despite its being a bit cheesy. It just kept moving up on my list from "also-ran" to last five out and then all the way to six points. It's so much fun. My favorite part:

I'm burning through the sky, yeah
200 degrees
That's why they call me Mr. Fahrenheit
I'm travelling at the speed of light

Despite others not finding today's list as good, I found a lot of new-to-me songs to like on today's playlist, actually adding seven to my new-favorites playlist.
I've not had many hearts and I'm still only about halfway through, but I've found this list consistently enjoyable despite knowing almost nothing beyond 3 songs deep. I am glad I didn't try to listen much yesterday as I'd have been too distracted to appreciate a lot of this. I may also be further along had I not decided to listen to Sanitarium a half dozen times (not sure if kidding).

Lotta shout-outs today. 'Doug B Long List' artists in red.

Jane Child ... man, does that bring back some memories. Freshman year at LSU, trying out the BR bars & clubs for the first time. All that kind of scene.

This isn't exactly up-to-date, but here's Jane Child performing on The Wayne Brady Show in the early 2000s. Her husband Cat Gray is playing the Roland in the background. Gray followed Brady to Let's Make A Deal, and is the bandleader for that show to this day.

A few years back, DSMN was scientifically determined to be the happiest song of all time:

Fits in well this round with my “Positive Vibration” pick. 🍃

No teasers tonight and not sure I'll put in any effort on this again, other than posting the daily lists and announcing winners of contests. Not worth my time or love.

What's crazy is that all week I had thought I'd post at the end of this week to say what a fantastic countdown this had been. Until today (and setting aside our people getting banned!), it had been so positive and fun, with excellent discussion and so much great music. Better for me even than the first one. Obviously I don't think that now. But thanks to most of you for really making it a great time...for a while.
I am genuinely not sure what the problem has been for you. It all seems hunky dory to me.

And I love the teasers. Sigh.
As I already mentioned, in addition to the ****ty posts in the thread, I received additional crap and drama via PM. Over and over and over. So no, nothing is “hunky dory.” Glad you liked the teasers.
I had to replace one of my favorite picks. Why people lose their **** over these things is mystifying. Whoever did that should be massively ashamed.

These guys are American I messed this up.
Can we move my Arcade Fire Song “Keep the Car Running” from Last Five Out into this slot for playlist and other purposes?

Not sure what I was thinking.
I was wondering. I know Craig Finn is from Minnesota but I figured the drummer might be from Oslo. Great band.

Musically they were much better in the ‘80s IMO. Their ‘70s material had catchier tunes and, of course, the image.

Yea, I don't disagree with this....I think for me, the 80's, in general, were so damn cheesy. Many of the bands who were big in the previous decades released music that didn't age well for me. KISS is one of those bands.

Oh I’m purely on team ‘70s for Kiss - not an ‘80s guy for them. Just saying their musical talent improved when their image faded.

Lotta new to me today that I won't get to because today (and yesterday) is really busy but I realize that's no excuse because management is doing a bang up job despite being just as busy. And I dig the teasers a lot too.

This middle aged dummy is going to his first ever hockey game tonight. Go Canes!! And my buddy said "wear black or red". I have an awesome black and red Rush R40 tour jersey, which fits with the "where in the world" thread. Represent!!!

Yep I think ur right......in general, I find that I usually prefer early stuff from bands with some BIG exceptions.....Stones, Beatles, Floyd, Screaming Trees, off the top of my head.....these bands blossomed later, imo.

Also off the top of my head, I much prefer early Metallica, Soundgarden, Zep, Modest Mouse
