Now that's an all time coincidence - this morning's Wonder Woman guest starred Eve Plum.

Now, normally I don't actually watch the show but I was taken in by the terrible theme song...and, of course, Lynda Carter.

Sam > Jeannie

big Eve Plum (Jan) fan here ...

- just sayin' ... young otb fancied her well over her big sis ... hell, she even had a band named after her (which, in the case of Jodie Foster's Army, is not always a good thing)
I saw Eve's Plum open for Love Battery at a tiny bar in Philly.

how much did they, uhhh,  charge?

😁
It was so long ago. My memory is out of focus.

banger!

And Martin Mull playing a hypnotic rock flautist is as good as it gets. :lmao:

say whaaaaaat?

Oh yeah...it happened!

The opening scene is 70's magic!

I was all set with an Eve's Plum reference and see Pip beat me to it. Their singer went on to become Vitamin C of Graduation (Friends Forever) fame.

ooohhh, she were a right lovely lady - did not know that - that song were my godson's grad tune.

Eve's Plum appeared on Fairuza Balk's soundtrack (also know as "The Craft" to some) iirc

Ann Myers (Mrs. Don Drysdale) was the only woman to have signed an NBA contract. Just sayin'.
I can't think of Don Drysdale without thinking of Greg Brady.
Bobby got Joe Namath.
I don't think Peter got anyone. The ups and downs of being a middle child.

He did take care of Buddy Hinton though.
Buddy had a William Zabka look and persona - wonder if that was an influence for Johnny Lawrence. 🤔

You have to go back and get the 11s! They were my favorite so far (haven't listened to the 12s or 13s yet).

Music related, we are currently in Memphis waiting on a Sun Studios tour. 🎸

Sun Studios is cool and worth doing, but Stax is a squillion times better. Don't miss it.
We will have to. We just had a couple hours before heading back north. We were just in Memphis for a Grizzlies game for the 16yo, and thought this would be a good quick stop.

I will keep that in mind for next trip though. My wife and I fell for New Orleans, so I'd guess at least us two will do something similar in the future. Thanks for the tip.

Oh, huge bummer. Hope you enjoyed Sun, though. If you're back through and need recommendations for anything, let me know. I lived there 2009-2013 and still have a soft spot for that city.

A Minha Menina - Os Mutantes (Brazil)
(new artist)
Another artist pictured in the album cover in my avatar (they performed the title track, Panis et Circenses, which is my second favorite song of theirs).

For any unfamiliar with Os Mutantes, they experienced a bit of a revival in the 90s when Kurt Cobain indicated that he was a big fan. Remnants of Os Mutantes still performing and putting out new stuff — they performed in DC a couple of weeks ago. (When I asked my wife if she wanted to go, I got one of the blankest stares I’ve ever gotten.)

I’ve looked up the translated lyrics of many of my favorite Brazilian songs, but never this one. Just a kickass tune.

Think About Me - Fleetwood Mac (England, USA)
(new song)
I knew I'd have a Fleetwood Mac song on my list, and since Christine McVie died not long ago, I decided to choose my favorite FM song written by her as my song. I love the drums that kick it off, and Lindsey's guitar, and Christine singing lead with Lindsey joining in. Their voices always blended so good together. I love the bass too. I like the energy in the song, and they just sound like they are having fun. She more than held her own in the songwriting circle of her, Lindsey, and Stevie. RIP Christine

Pip’s Invitation:

Fencewalk - Mandrill (Panama/US)
(duplicate, second vote)

My relationship with Mandrill goes back to a 2005 bill I saw them on with War. I have been to a squillion shows with one of my best friends from high school, who now owns a record store. At most of these, he has been one of the few Black people in a mostly white audience. He suggested we go to this show, at the Mann Music Center in Philly, because he knew I liked War, and that night became one of the few times I have been one of the few white people in a mostly Black audience.

Mandrill actually headlined this show, probably because their main creative forces, the Wilson brothers, were still leading the band. The Wilsons were born in Panama and their family moved to Brooklyn during their childhood. The three oldest Wilson brothers, Lou, Ric and Carlos (all of whom played various horn and percussion instruments; Carlos also played rhythm guitar and served as the primary lead vocalist) formed Mandrill in 1968 with friends from Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. They blended genres in a manner somewhat like, and just as successfully as, Santana, but were primarily marketed as R&B/funk. Their first, self-titled album is pretty psychedelic, but it was their second and third, Mandrill Is and Composite Truth, that codified their signature funk/soul/jazz/rock/reggae/Latin/mood music sound. Fencewalk, which became their biggest hit, is from the latter. Subsequent albums were less consistent and became more disco-sounding as the '70s went on, as tended to happen with R&B/funk acts, but all had high points well worth hearing. A fourth Wilson brother, Wilfredo, joined on bass in the mid '70s. The band is still active despite Lou Wilson's death in 2013.

The 2005 version of War only had one original member (keyboardist/singer Lonnie Jordan) because the other surviving founders were feuding with War's management and formed a splinter group, The Low Rider Band. Nonetheless, despite all the ringers in the lineup, they put on an excellent set of their best known-hits and a few extended jams. But Mandrill took things to a whole nother level, and I was captivated throughout their set. The playing was fiery and the energy was off the charts. They ended their set with a supercharged version of Fencewalk (my friend had to tell me what it was) . After which I set out to learn whatever I could about them, and to take them in music drafts whenever the opportunity presented itself.

I knew 22 of today's songs.

Known-to-me favorites from #19:

Feels Like We Only Go Backwards -- Tame Impala (Binky)
Beds Are Burning -- Midnight Oil (Titusbramble)
Soul Sacrifice (live) -- Santana (Val Rannous). Certainly another case for best Carlos guitar showcase.
It Makes No Difference (live) -- The Band (jwb). Rick Danko's vocal (both in the studio and on The Last Waltz) conveys pathos like nothing else. I have seen this performed live by My Morning Jacket with Eddie Vedder sitting in.
Wasted on the Way -- Crosby, Stills and Nash (Simsarge)
Back in Black -- AC/DC (Worrierking)
The Rumor -- The Band (Tim). Doesn't get the attention it deserves. Fantastic use of all three vocalists.
Something So Strong -- Crowded House (Mt. Man)
Under Pressure -- Queen and David Bowie (Raging Weasel)
World Turning -- Fleetwood Mac (Doug B)
Think About Me -- Fleetwood Mac (Simey). Both of today's FM songs have great vocal interplay between Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham.
Send Me an Angel -- Real Life (Zamboni). I remember this from MTV. It's gorgeous.

Don Quixote:

A Minha Menina - Os Mutantes (Brazil)
(new artist)

A Brazilian DQ song that I actually knew! When we were doing an international playlist for GP4, I decided to see if I liked anything from these guys, since Kurt Cobain and other American tastemakers seem to like them. This was the one that stuck out to me and I drafted it. Samba with psychedelic guitar shouldn't work, but it does.

Send Me an Angel -- Real Life (Zamboni). I remember this from MTV. It's gorgeous.
It really is. Kind of came out of nowhere and really stood out. They pretty much faded into obscurity after this, at least in the US, but this song left a lasting mark.
They had a second top 40 "hit" I like better than this one, but cool sound.
Yes, the other one hit exactly #40 and then fell off. So not technically a one-hit wonder.

ETA: Send Me An Angel was also re-released in 1989 and re-charted, but I thought it was a bit too polished compared to the rawer original.

Soul Sacrifice (live) -- Santana (Val Rannous). Certainly another case for best Carlos guitar showcase.
Carlos himself has said he was blistered beyond belief on acid here - certainly didn't seem to affect his precision.
I think it was mescaline, right? Doesn't matter because, either way, he kills his part. The whole band does.
Could have been - I'm sure he was taking the whole drug cocktail.

As long as he didn't take the brown acid.
