the Nuyorican kids up here called him "Flaco" (skinny), always yelling at us to "play more Flaco, man!"

we had no control, tho ... lest the radio played it - they finally caved and started cranking Z100 (the big NYC top 40 station, and the inventors of THE MORNING ZOO!!1!) to hear more of Skinny! that summer.

-Instant Karma! (We All Shine On) - my second favorite post-Beatles John song
-Take Me To The River - until another song earlier made my "new favorites" list, this was the only Talking Heads song I've ever liked a lot
-Into My Arms - was on my last five out when I couldn't decide which Nick Cave song to pick
-The Harder They Come - two straight days of Jimmy Cliff goodness
-Don't Dream It's Over - I might have listed this one before.

New-to-me faves:
-Won't Wait Again by Headstones - my favorite from them so far and the only one from this group I put on my new playlist
-The Hills by The Weeknd

The way these two fit together in succession today is :shock: If you haven't listened to the two in order, give it a shot. I wasn't looking at what was playing and just thought the first one had taken a rest and then continued to a different part of the same song (I was quickly disabused of that notion). These are also my two favorite "new-to-me" selections so far on today's list.
 
A few known favorites from this round excluding past songs. These are never in any particular order.

Why Does Love Have to be So Sad? - fancy guitar playing
Middle of the Road - I love this album, and this is one of my favorite songs by them.
Play the Game - This song reminds me of making floats for homecoming in high school.
Dance Me to the End of Love - dance me to your beauty, with a burning 🎻
Falling Slowly - I get confused for when they call themselves by both their names, and then by The Swell Season. I'm a fan of them under any name.
Overkill - Acoustic - He is so good. I saw him last year at Merlefest. It was just him and his guitar, and a lot of stories he told. During his set, the crowd started getting bigger and bigger, as they recognized the voice, but never knew his name. I loved his stories, and he sounded great.
Handle With Care - My favorite song from this Supergroup. I instantly liked it from the first notes.
Rock Bottom - 🎸
Go Your Own Way - I like Mick's drumming on this tune. Lindsey's guitar playing is always great. I love his Rick Turner guitar. It's beautiful.
One Way or Another - 🎸
Harvest Moon - I love folky Neil
Sweet City Woman - 70s gold
Cry Cry Cry - This would have been a fun benefit show to be at in Hawaii. 🤙

Gouge Away - I like the different tempos of the song.
Corazon Espinado - Their instrumentation is always good.
Chuco's Cumbia - This song makes me want to dance with some castanets.

For those keeping score at home, I'm adding Mana as an artist to our list, since they should have been a "(feat. Mana)" on the song Corazon Espinado today. I didn't check these this time when I went through and relied on the selector, but I just noticed it on Spotify and looked it up, and they should get an attribution here.

Seriously, I can only think of one other musician off-hand that oozed as much sexuality as he did: Jimi Hendrix. Obviously in a very different way, but I find them both so compelling I realize I'm not breathing.

Remember how Mick Jagger in the "Start Me Up" video creeped me out so much as a kid that I've had trouble listening to the Stones as much as I should? This is exactly the opposite.

The Distillers are one of my favorite punk acts ever. Coral Fang, the band's third album and my favorite of theirs, is a very melodically tortured and abrasive album about a break-up. But Brode Dalle (the lead singer from Australia) is so good and heartfelt that the album hits home whenever it ascends to even screaming melody lines. Her guttural sound is in fine fettle here in a song from their eponymous first album. I would be remiss if I didn't say that their earlier work had footprints of her then-boyfriend, Tim Armstrong, all over it in her vocal pacing, but it's still a fine effort. I prefer their second album, Sing Sing Death House to the first, but that's just me.

Whew! I really liked yesterday's playlist, but this one blew it away for me!

Known favorites are mostly obvious: Leonard Cohen, the Velvets, Glen and Marketa, White Town (on my last five out), Traveling Wilburys, Toots and the Maytals, probably some more. It was also cool to hear the "Gold Mix" of Rock Me Amadeus.

New-to-me favorites :blowsout:
All of the following made my playlist:
- "Bra" by Cymande
- "Chuco's Cumbia" by Los Lobos - would have made it without the story that was posted, but that enhanced my experience
- "Einsamer Hirte" by a couple of guys and "An Irish Pub Song" by The Rumjacks - discussed above, and love the transition between the two
- "Charlie on the M.T.A." by a couple of other guys - actually not entirely new to me as I listened to some of it when MAC tried to draft it in the last countdown
- "Pull Up to the Bumper" by Grace Jones - I remember her being huge when I was a kid/teen, but couldn't for the life of me recall any of her songs. This was fantastic. What an icon.
- "North American Scum" by LCD Soundsystem - apologies to wikkid for liking it, but it's the first one of theirs I've loved
- "Sweet City Woman" by Stampeders - not actually new to me but I'd forgotten it
- "Lights Up" by a few people - I know it's a ditka one when it says "[something] remix". I think this is my favorite selection from her so far!
- "Heart in Hand" by Opeth - @KarmaPolice , are you sitting down? Might be my favorite of the whole day. Going to go back and listen again to it shortly. What??
- "Corazon Espinado" by Santana (feat. Mana)

in addition to the ones above that made my official playlist, there were several others I enjoyed that didn't quite get on there, like the Bruce Cockburn, the one with Ziggy Marley and Jack Johnson, the one from The Tea Party, and others.

I'm thinking that you don't like The Doors, but Michael Hutchence, to me, had a sex appeal on stage somewhat like Jim Morrison, but he danced more and was sexier. Morrison became chubby and grew a beard and mustache, because he didn't want to be known as a sex symbol. Can you guess who had a fling with both Morrison and Hendrix?

At the beginning of the song, I was wondering if it was a female or male singing, but as the song went on I could tell it was a female. I liked it.
 
I apologize for not being nearly as engaged in this draft as the other two. I have not been myself these past three weeks. Had some major dental work done 3 weeks ago - previously root canaled tooth under a bridge went bad. He had to destroy the bridge, which essentially meant losing two teeth. Plus, he had to drill/cut it for an hour, which so far has resulted in tinnitus in my left ear (feels like I got back from a metal concert... been slowly getting better, but it's a long go). Plus, the extraction site has been a verrrry sloooow heal, and I found out why yesterday - there was still a tooth fragment in there, which made certain it stayed sore and angry... he pulled it out yesterday, and right away it was like "ahhh" - like a splinter getting removed.

Anyway, it feels like I'm finally on the mend now. But it's been a lousy three weeks.

Heh, it is cool isn't it? It makes the look so I'll probably keep it (will roll this one out again in a few years). The previous year I was a deranged Charles Manson-like psycho, with a bloody shirt that said "ask me about my kids" (when asked, i said "they were delicious"). This year, one of the kids at the door said "I heard you eat children" and I was like "nah, that was last year. I'm all about the peace and love now"

I'm glad you are feeling better. I have felt that pain before, and it is awful.

There's no way Sweet City Woman was on Freedom Rock. This was some type of cheesy 70's rock collection. Other songs include Saturday Night by Bay City Rollers, Chevy Van by Sammy Johns, and Indian Reservation by Paul Revere & The Raiders.

Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? - Derek And The Dominoes - this song always gets overshadowed by the others. It's just as good though.
Play The Game - Queen - Another overlooked song. Great album opener.
Overkill - Colin Hay - never heard this version. I like it.
Sweet City Woman - The Stampeders - Haven't heard this in 30 years. Great tune.
Handle With Care - The Traveling Wilburys - Love these guys.
Lights Up (Myd Remix) - Flight Facilities (feat. Channel Tres) - New to me. I like it a lot. Ditkaburgers has picked a bunch of new-to-me stuff that I liked.
Harvest Moon - Neil Young - Great song.
Rock Bottom - UFO - I'll listen to anything by these guys.
One Way Or Another - Blondie - Blondie was so versatile. Punk / rock / disco... whatever. It was all good.

Neil doesn't usually write straightforward love songs, but when he does, they are usually gorgeous like this. I suspect that of all the songs Neil has released after 1979, this is one of the two that the average person is most likely to have heard of.
This is also a special song for me because it was my father and stepmother's favorite Neil song. There are elements of their story in it.
