You probably think this thread is about you, don't you, don't you..................I'm so vainI probably think this thread is about me
:wheatgrass:
Do you live in San Diego? The Padre fans there cheer louder when the Dodgers lose then when the Padres win....Well?I hate the local team in town, but you would never hear me outright root against them(in my heart, yes)Some people are just too miserable.
New York people do it. I'm assuming LA people do it too. I don't think Chicago is an exception when it comes to cities / regions with two teamsI guess it's because I'm not from there, but I just don't understand rooting against a team in your city. Seems so odd to me. Why can't you like both? It's a smaller area, but if there was a Tampa Bay Rays and a St. Petersburg _____ I wouldn't root against one.Not exactly the same thing, but I root for both USF and FSU. I attended both schools so I have a place for both. Not sure why Chicago people have to draw a line in the sand.
Do the majority root for both USF and FSU?I think it mostly builds when your growing up and in grade school- In NY you had to choose sides - Knicks or Nets, Islanders or Rangers, Yankees or Mets, Jets or Giants.... And then as a school kid you always debated and pulled for those teams...I grew up hating the Mets more than the Red Sox...And I have to say, it's 1000x better right now in NY with the Mets out along with my Yankees because if the Mets were in it, NY Sports talk would be 50% Lets go Mets and another 50% talking about taking over NY Baseball and comparisons to the Yankees. Mets fans in NY just can't be happy with any success their own team has, it always has to be a comparison - Which I guess is a form of respect but, it does get annoying. If one set of fans is going to out of their way to jump on the other team before their's has won a damn thing in 20+ years, talk about taking over a city and can't enjoy their success on it's own merit, then I'll be more than happy to root against them and avoid most of that BS talk and/or throw it back at them.I don't feel that same way about Football and Giants / Jets fans though... I think there's a lot more respect given from Jets fans to Giants.I guess it's because I'm not from there, but I just don't understand rooting against a team in your city. Seems so odd to me. Do you also root for UF?I guess it's because I'm not from there, but I just don't understand rooting against a team in your city. Seems so odd to me. Why can't you like both? No. Didn't go there, they aren't in Tampa.Do you also root for UF?I guess it's because I'm not from there, but I just don't understand rooting against a team in your city. Seems so odd to me. The point is they are in Florida like FSU. Imagine how you feel about the Gators. That is how Cubs fans and White Sox fans feel about each other.No. Didn't go there, they aren't in Tampa.Do you also root for UF?I guess it's because I'm not from there, but I just don't understand rooting against a team in your city. Since there is only one team in LA, they dont have too!BUT, if you are talking about the Angels of Anaheim who wish they were in LA, yes there is a line. Its call the Orange County line and you cant root for both the Dodgers and Angels. Its the same in OC, Angel fans do not root for the Dodgers.New York people do it. I'm assuming LA people do it too. For the time period I started getting into Baseball, the Yankees and Sox really weren't competitive at the same times much.... On the other hand, growing up and in grade school you had battles all the time with Mets fans Vs Yankee fans... Back, then, the Red Sox were just another team than never won anything. You also have to remember that the Mets team of 1986 has gone down as one of the cockiest bunches of SOB's in sports history :justaddcoke:That Mets team was EASILY hated.... I also didn't know any Sox fans let alone cocky Sox fans... There were turd Mets fans that sprung up instantaneously all over the place in 1986 - That was my first brush with "The Bandwagon" in sports when my uncle and his lawyer friends who knew nothing about baseball were all sitting with that old lady spinning her arms behind home plate at the playoff games.I will never understand how Yankee fans could root for the Red Sox vs the Mets in a World Seies - that just doesn't make sense to me. There is no way in hell I'd root for the Braves or Phillies if they were playing the Yankees in the WS. I just couldn't do it.
I've lived in Chicago for 9 years and it still makes no sense whatsoever. The two teams aren't even in the same league.I guess it's because I'm not from there, but I just don't understand rooting against a team in your city. Seems so odd to me. Why can't you like both? I freaking HATED that lady - I used to hope there was a weak spot in the screen at Shea where a foul straight back would go through and drill that hag.For the time period I started getting into Baseball, the Yankees and Sox really weren't competitive at the same times much.... I grew up in Orange County (as a Dodger fan) but don't remember much animosity between the two fan bases until fairly recently. I used to wear my Dodger hat to Anaheim Stadium and not hear a word about it. Interleague play contributed a bit, but I think Moreno's geographically-challenged name change was the tipping point. Before that, I didn't root against the Angels, in part because they have former Dodgers like Scioscia and Hatcher running things. Ironically, I think Moreno ticked off his own fan base with the name change, as I know a lot of Angel fans who live in OC who absolutely hate the name.Since there is only one team in LA, they dont have too!

At Dodger stadium, a fan gets booed mercilously while wearing one of two opposing jerseys, the Giants and the Angels.
Once the Angels won the WS their fan base became louder about the "greatness" of their team, esp since the Dodgers hadnt won since 88 and the Angels had been winning the freeway series both preseason and interleague. Then the name change and the "wannabe LA" fans became worse. Noone in LA or OC liked the new name. With the Angels doing well over the last few years the rivalry has increased.I freaking HATED that lady - I used to hope there was a weak spot in the screen at Shea where a foul straight back would go through and drill that hag.For the time period I started getting into Baseball, the Yankees and Sox really weren't competitive at the same times much....
