So anyone over 35. Who would definitely win the election if they decided to run for president? Any athlete, actor, musician, religious figure, writer, news anchor or anyone else famous? Are there any? Back in the day someone like Walter Cronkite was so respected and beloved that if he ran he probably would have won. Is there anyone currently who fits the bill?

Only name I came up with who I think would win for sure would be Oprah Winfrey.

Tony Dungy. We need someone like him to straighten this mess out.I mean how much harder could it be than fixing the Bucs.

Eh, the list here has to be pretty small. I don't even think Oprah would be a shoe-in because the white, protestant and male contigent would probably rally against her.

I could be showing my personal bias but I think guys like Malcolm Gladwell, Dan Arielly and Nate Silver would be great candidates for their pragmatic approaches to situations. Then again, they may only appeal to nerds. I'd think in terms of athletes Derek Jeter and Peyton Manning would garner votes, but probably not enough.

For actors, Tom Hanks or Meryl Streep on the short list? I dunno. A lot of those big name stars are pretty polarizing politically.

Can't see any of the pundits or talking heads up there. John Stewart would easily be the best shot there, but I think he loses the older vote.

Hell, I really can't think of anyone presently.

Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, or John Oliver would probably bring out the young people in such numbers that they would overcome losing the older generation vote.

ETA: Oops, Oliver not available - Natural-born citizen and all that.

Didn't Colbert kind of run already? Wasn't even close.

Tom Brady.

He's got the lying and cheating thing down pat.

Would just need to get up to speed on the stealing and the killing.

Sadly it's probably a really long list, and would include any celebrity with truly mass appeal.

So you can count out most of the true Hollywood elite as they all skew California left. You can also exclude true conservative celebs like the Duck guys, Larry the Cable Guy, and that one latino guy that always speaks at the GOP convention.

So we're down to folks like Matt Lauer and other "Today Show" noise fillers, people who are imminently recognizable and well-liked but have never come close to anything that could be confused with a definitive position on anything more controversial than loving puppies and dolphins and hating the bad guy in movies (so long as we are talking superhero type villians, not bad guys like the Koch brothers or anything realistic).

But when it comes down to it, ultimately they would have to affiliate with one party or the other, be fed the same lines that all the normal political candidates are fed, and end up sounding, looking, and behaving very similarly to the same egomaniacal trash we see trotted out every presidential election cycle.

But yeah, regardless of party I think someone like Matt Lauer would beat all comers in 2016.

I disagree. I think that would account for half, but even then, no way that entire half votes for them. It would have to be someone universally liked, at least.

probably unlikely, but I think Mark Cuban would have a shot....
American presidential voters would LOVE a Jewish billionaire who has faced insider trading charges, constantly says dumb things without thinking it through, and has antagonized half the big cities in America by talking #### about their sports teams/athletes.

added more choices to the poll. if you already voted you can delete that vote and vote again with the new choices
